- Johnny Marr plays 'How Soon Is Now?' with Andy Rourke on bass, James Doviak on guitar and Dave Tolan on drums at the Manchester vs Cancer Concert on 28 January 2006 at the MEN Arena, Manchester. This is a promo clip for the full dvd that was never released.
i think johnny marr is the best underrated guitar player
Nathan Petrie and John Squire too, the guitar on the first Stone Roses album is sublime, much like Marr in his playing style, amazing, the both of them
Since when is he underrated 🤨 everyone knows he is a legend
Roy buchanan is the master of underrated guitarists
@@odw_99 squire even more underrated
Johnny a jamais été sous estimé chez les vrais gratteux en tout cas
OMG! Hearing Johnny play like that! It's different but it's unmistakably him. MORE, MORE, MORE, MORE!
and great to see Andy Rourke back with JM, doing what he does so underratedly brilliantly.
Thanks for posting.
Never i’d see Johnny Marr playing a guitar solo.
For all you haters. It's not all about being the fastest gun in the west, with all that fretboard wanking. JM has influenced countless guitarists, with his unique and original style. Try and play Girl Afraid, then tell me he's mediocre. Personally, I prefer his melodic arpeggios, as opposed to any ten-a-penny solo.
Do you find this charming man a difficult one to play?
Couldn't agree more mate
Well said
Johnny Marr has nothing to prove.
Mr "I don't play guitar solos"...hahaha just kidding. Love Marr's work, Johnny is a guitar god!
Go watch him perform champagne supernova with oasis, the fucking owned Noel Gallaghers solo
did anyone else's jaw hit the floor when they first came across this video? mine did
aQuestionableQuestion
..and still waiting 2yrs later that someone may have the full length clip uploaded :(
@@scottburnham8583 do you know where the gig is from?

wow, what a rarity to see johnny solo like that!
Worlds best guitarist, without a doubt.
When do you know a song is a very good? When you play it live 20 years after its creation and it sounds like the hypest stuff in town. Or when it's played by Johnny Marr maybe....
Damn I knew Marr was a genius, didn’t know he could shred like that!
Wow Johnny Marr wandering around the 20th fret mark. I'm certain that is the first time I have seen that. For all the haters get a feekin' grip already. Johnny Marr is a guitar genius, there is no arguing it. The work of The Smiths has influenced pretty much every modern band out there. He is a study in why you don't need to do hero solos all the time to prove your worth as a guitar player.
Man, that solo kicked ass!!
This is why he is my favorite guitar player
Johnny Marr Go Super Saiyan
And this is from a guy that says he hates solos too. I think we guitarists all secretly love solos
absolutely great great player ! I had only got to know his music abn guitar play about 10 weeks ago !
As someone below me said, being a brilliant guitarist, such as the Johnny Marrs and John Squiers of this world, comes in 2 parts, being able to make a new style (as marr did), and being able to actually play this stuff, every nobody guitarist could practice enough to play this stuff with ease, but it's only one in every few thousand guitarists who would be able to invent a completely be style, Well Done Marr!!!
ahh, Johnny. Go on my son
This isn't enough. I want more.
Holy shit is that an a amazing clip. Johnny looked really young there but I guess it was recent. I need to see that in full. As much as I love the original version (it's my all time favorite song) this one kicks ass.
I thought I'd got the wrong clip for a minute.
Wow. Just wow.
Why did they never release the DVD? Nooooo. I wanna see the full version :'(
we can argue all day who the "best " guitarist's in the world are ! the thing is anybody can lock themselves in a bedroom and become a really very good guitarist . The thing with marr is that he influenced and still influences people who themselves become great , marr made his own style and tone and that to me makes him one of the best ! and the fact that after 30 years of playing we are still talking about him rubber stamps it for me !
Can you imagine Moz's voice on that ?!!!!
Someone needs to find and upload the full footage asap I reckon!
Agreed! Johnny Marr is a God amongst men!
HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!! That was pure, unadulterated BRILLIANCE!!!
great tone always
wow, amazing!
This is one song you have to start at the beginning!
Brilliant guitarist.
woahhh always knew marr was the most unique player around but never knew he had those chops, niceeeee
Awesome!
"It has a solo in so therefore its heavy metal"
HE is indeed Johnny fucking Marr.
Johnny playing the blues interesting ❤️💫
wow i knew johnny Marr was gd on guitar but i never knew he was this good
brilliant
@MelPullThePin You just cited my three favorite guitarists of all time: Johnny Marr, Frusciante and Jonny Greenwood. They are the greatest, my inspiration and the reason I play guitar!
rourke legend of bass
i heard there was a secret cord - that johnny played and it pleased the lord....
Ye baby
Johnny Marr should do what Jeff Beck did with Blow By Blow! An instrumental guitarbased jazz-fusion album!
That's POSSIBLE but Jeff Beck and Johnny Marr have different approaches on The Guitar.............
anjelo ejercito Well a more alt. jazzy fusion album perhaps... Any way I'd love for an Johnny and Jonny album; Johnny Marr and Jonny Greenwood!
One of my fav. bands "The Smiths" if only they would do a tour all together would be a dream come true, but money changes everything.
There needs to be the full video of this.
HELL YEAH!!!!
Johnny Marr and Charlie Burchill(from Simple Minds) are the most underrated guitarist ever!!
that's better, I didn't know he could play like that. thumbs up.
Lo amo.
Link has been removed. Can that get re-uploaded? I MUST see this full version!
does anyone have the full version?
Johnny's fucking amazing!
Brutal af
@MelPullThePin Every rock guitarist nowadays is influenced either directly or indirectly by Johnny Marr, the man is a genius.
dam never new he could play like that
@manurok1 Yep. In a way he creates a 12th fret harmonic (which is really just gently touching the string at half length). The place that his right index finger is touching is exactly halfway between the bridge and the fret where his left hand is working. He uses his pick to strike the string right behind where his index finger is touching. The man's a focking wizard ;)
Holy shit, where's the rest
Fantastic Riffs in My Ears !!!!!!!!! *-*
Modest Mouse !!! Moon & Antarctica !! is great !!!
How soon is now ? for the smiths again? i love old 80s musix The smiths !
@sirka067 You do have a point, there music will always have life! cheers!
His tone is heaven in this song. Does anybody know what amp and effects was he playing with? Johnny Marr is a great talented guitarist. I just feel curious about his evolution from his original signature sound coming out mostly of a Rickenbacker and Roland amp (no valves and great clean chorused sound adding a Boss Turbo Overdrive pedal when necessary, tremolo, and a few other pedals), next to Gibsons with Fender tube amps, next to Fender single-coils + tube amps. Has anybody a good explanation?
anyone know where I can get the full audio from? Link in the description doesn't work..
alisa alferova Thank You!!
@cranie4 actually joyce found out about rourke and marr playing and asked marr, to which marr did not respond (based on grudges from their court case years back)
cool
@kolokidi Wait so are you saying Johnny Marr is overrated? Do you think he doesn't have any creativity or talent? He is one of the most unique and innovative guitarists of the age and any number of musicians refer to him as a legend and great influence.
anyone got the link for the full video??
These Harmonics...
The Stone Roses - One Love
fucking amazing
You guys do realize that Noel and Johnny are good mates, right? Johnny gave 2 guitars to Noel back when Noel couldnt afford his own. Noel is a genius, he bloody well wrote most of Oasis' songs; and the smiths are freakin amazing as well. So get over yourselves, yes there can be more than a handful of good bands.
The full audio of 'How Soon Is Now?' along with 'There Is A Light That Never Goes Out', 'Denial, Denial', 'Sparks Of LIfe' and 'Down On The Corner' can
be found at the youtube link in the video description above. Thanks to ezzer008 for the upload!

I love ♥ this Song ♥ Thank You (good Gtr improv). How soon is Now.
I suppose Marr had to show he could do it, if only for the benefit of the people who think this sort of thing is the be all and end all of rock guitar.
OK Steve Vai and Yngwie Malmsteen may not be to your taste (or mine either) but I do respect their skill and as I say, "each to their own", we all have different tastes. I'm not into the lightning speed guitar style myself, but I do at least enjoy listening to someone who can really play with feeling.
At about 0:21 , is he doing some kind of harmonic there?
Agreed
Is there a full video of this song?
morrissey woulda never let this happen
Sounds like the Squire's guitar tone on One Love (Stone Roses)
Please...where is the footage from? I must find this concert!!
@marokokisetter I just watched "Inside The Smiths". Really cool look at Rourke and Joyce. Both seem like the kind of guys you could hang out with at the pub and have a great time. Shame it came down to courts. Marr may not hold a grudge in time but you know Moz will.
@MelPullThePin One - if not all of the bands that I listen to are in some way shape or form influenced by Morrissey, Johnny Marr - The Smiths. Johnny Marr is a fantastic guitarist.
Wow this solo has split opinion. Johnny Marrmite!
What did he do after the Smiths? Didn't he play with that bloke that kept telling everyone how good he was.
William Bourke who?
@MelPullThePin Are you bashing Gallagher?
Is there a tab for this? I’m sure there’s not, but if there is I need it.
@MelPullThePin Just gonna jump in on this conversation to say... CAUSE HE'S FUCKING AMAZING
what's this from?
first time seeing johnnny marrr playing conventional guitar solo..
@ShadowGrove483 Dude, "MOAR"? Really?
Is there a full version?
Yes, there is. But I don't have it.
@@themodernday5699 ohh! I wonder where I can find it!! It's so brilliant!!! Do you have any ideas?
@ADoc1980 i think people just like having a go at the gallaghers. noel's stated his admiration for johnny many times and he knows he's nowhere near as good as him, i don't get where the hate comes from
@ShadowGrove483 Yes, somewhere.
@splaticon5 Thanks, and he is! I don't even want to attempt to learn how to do it, I'm not worthy
at what exactly? I love Marr's style but Noel isn't a copy cat, he was heavily influenced by Marr's style and mixed it up a little bit in making Definitely maybe and whats the story morning glory both of which topped the charts. He's AMAZING because he is made incredible music with Oasis and high Flying Birds. His style is similar to Marr's but slightly so, besides he's good friends with Marr and Marr gave Noel one of his guitars which the single live forever was written with
@MelPullThePin Not really but if you're going to be a child. Are you trying to insult Gallagher? I couldn't tell
Well yes, but the audio is a bit of a joke, really. Still...
@Zerusuke Yes, there must be. But for whatever reason, it hasn't been released.
@manurok1 It's actually quite easy, and a very common guitar trick. Try it!
annoyingly fast edits that actually prevent you from actually watching him play...
