29:00 Right there you can see how cool Lars is. He kind of showed the asshole a lot of times during that era but that moment shows you how cool he always was, and still is. He still today is really cool to the fans.
The recording of the unforgiven solo around an hour in is, creatively, the most important part of this documentary, imo. It shows that these brilliant melodies, leads, etc. don’t just fall out of thin air. They develop, people argue over them, sometimes theres heavy emotion involved and if everything goes right, all of that dramatic intensity ends up on tape. Sometimes things write themselves…sometimes it takes a committee of people who *care*
Seriously though, when Bob does his little “Dada um um doo, dada um um doo!” in relation to the energy of the song ‘The Unforgiven’ and how the solo needed to be built on that energy, that’s one of those moments where good producers really earn their money. Kirk got that, and the solo that eventually came out of all that pressure and conflict was not only perfectly suited to the song, but became one of the most iconic guitar solos of all time. It was raw, full of feeling, and took the intensity of the song to the next level.
I love how at 37:30 Lars is only half-explaining what’s REALLY going on. Why they’re actually doing is editing drum tracks to piece together. In other words, there are LOTS AND LOTS of full takes of the songs. But none that are usually great from start to finish, as one take. So they take the best fill from say, Take 6 of one reel and edit it into Take 12 of another…it’s called comping. A friend of a friend knows Mike Fraser and I was told that the 2” tapes of Lar’s drum takes ALONE filled up a van! Suffice to say, a LOT of editing and comping was done to get what we hear today. And Godamn, they are KILLER drum tracks.

I'll still check the new album out. I didn't mind Lux but the other two songs left a lot to be desired.
You can't convince me Bob Rock is not Michael McKean
Thats what ive always thought 😁
This is 'Spinal Tallica' is a great Metalumentry.
51:31 Lars says he can’t wait till he doesn’t have to play drums anymore but in the modern age Metallica never replaced him with a drum program lol
I love Kirk
Skip The Unforgiven video 00:27:00
I like how the cancer kid came in and started with a Mustaine riff XD
Hate him or not.. Lars was such a douche. Yet, he's one of the best drummers out there. He just fits the band. What an underrated drummer he is...
Let's see if we can get this guy at least 2 likes 😔
James 💜🤘🔥
13:02 hahaha. James is one incident away from completely losing his mind
Lars laughing at kirks solo fail😂
💖
(1:55) Now that’s a pog face.
50:00 the snap💀💀💀
EWW
this clip makes me want to end it all
4:07 What he should've said was.. "Uuh we realized we needed more bass. More Jason instead of throwing him in the background".. like the almost garbage he was treated like. Them never letting him in, simply because he couldn't live up to the fact that he was not born another man in an earlier time. We get it now...; Ego.
1:13:46 lars dream mix
1:01:32. I'm sure one of them would want to punch Bob ha
fun fact, Jason's older than James by a few months..I always thought it was funny they called Jason a kid..
54:18 kirk solo On fire
37:20 Solo backing track for The Unforgiven with the twangy country bend
Best rhythm guitar part on the album
so I wasnt the only one thinkin this section of the song was the best
