@@AlexBraunton thanks Alex, it’s not a show of skill 😂 but I debated not uploading the video because it was so poor but then I thought well that’s the truth in bonsai sometimes things don’t go to plan !… hopefully come spring it will be ok. It grew very strong last year 💪🏼
@@Bearded_Bonsai exactly that ! You can read all the books and watch all the videos but until you are hands on you will never know… I look forward to the wedge cuts 👀😂 thanks for watching
I only learnt to do this watching bonsai Q, have applied it to some smaller trees. They wrap the raffia at a similar angle and direction as the one you would apply your wire at. I will be doing a radiata pine in early spring. Hoping not to have to split the trunk, gonna use multiple lines of 5mm aluminium wire. May need branch bender to get movement in there.
@@Bonsai_Noob i went in thinking yeah I’ve moved thick branches before… forgetting they’ve never been this thick 😂 also if I had some copper wire k think this would have gone much smoother. Nether the less I got it moved a bit so I’m happy for now… live and learn hay !
@@YasuiBonsaiI love that you expressed that this is not a tutorial but a video about sharing what you are doing and what you are experiencing and learning. That is the whole point of my channel so definitely can identify with that. I have not yet used copper wire on anything, so can't comment on that. Inspired to have a crack at bending my radiata but will ask the old dudes at my club when the best time for that work is here in Australia 🦘
@@Bonsai_Noob thank you I thought it was important to share because a lot of channels don’t show the failures/ the problems they face. I’m only 3-4 years into my journey and of course still learning and I think it’s good to show that’s ok, as long as you don’t give up with you’re intention and keep trying to get something to work I guess. I need to join a club 😂 someone would have told me how silly steel wire was 😏
@@hypolardnb when I cut off that back branch I counted 10 rings… I’d imagine 15 or so from seed maybe… although ring counting skills aren’t tip top 😂 thanks for watching
@@YasuiBonsaii for one don’t have great ring counting skills 😂 i’m really excited to get my scot’s pine on it’s bonsai path this year from nursery stock
@ I love the idea of pines as bonsai but I also know just how hard it is with such a slow growing species… in terms of back budding, potting down and even styling. It’s 100% my most challenging tree but after having so many mame/ shohin trees it’s nice to get my hands on some bigger material.
@@YasuiBonsai i agree! pines and junipers are by far my favourite but the slow growth certainly doesn’t help! spring is just around the corner thank god haha
@ I have to admit I’m a big tropical fan deep down but they can also be hard to keep indoors. Oh I bloody hope so… it’s been 6 months of grey and cold 😂
Nicely done mate. Painful task but the tree looks better and youve set it up for a good growing season ahead.

It's all a learning experience hey. You ended up getting it part way to your goal, so that's something. Keep at it 👍

Awesome job. I did similar band on thick branch by using a bend rebar and zip ties.
@@TT-gf5do I think a branch bender may have worked better for me and helped me (rather than using pure elbow grease) thanks for watching
