(you know it's an exceptionally well conceived universe when you can remember every detail after 40 years!) 🤔😂👍
Dune was one of the first Sci-Fi books I read as a child and as a member of the Science Fiction Book Club in the mid-to-late '60s. I've read and watched (and played) everything on Dune and this film has me more excited than anything in a very long time. So far it looks/feels authentic and beautiful.

Despite the desert setting, it seems like most of the inspiration for the Fremen (culture, language, religion, etc.) came from the Caucasian mountain tribes, particularly within the context of them fighting the Russians in the nineteenth century. He also pulled bits from the culture of Bedouins, Persians, San (of southern Africa), Navajo, and others.
The Dune universe is much more intricate and steeped in actual future history of our present, rather than a fantasy. Not to diminish Tolkein and/or Jackson...who's film adaptations are indeed brilliant.
Unless part 1 makes trillions (sarcasm), I don’t think they will bother making part 2 let alone the rest of the books. The cast looks spot on except for Mamoa as Duncan and Zendaya as Chani.

I thought the same. Dune has a lot of great women roles. It almost ruined it for me when they announced Kynes was being portrayed by a woman. I'm still a little pissed.

I first read the 1964 book in my teens. Loved the movie that was made in 1984, I thought it captured to book well and I cannot wait for this latest effort.
Ok that trailer though it looks good, has really tempered my hype, the dialog felt very un-dune like from a novel loving perspective, and is starting to feel like the vision of the movie is aiming away from the core feel of the series, I will still watch it and treat it as it's own entity, but already I feel a little betrayed by deny v hyping it as a true adaptation worthy of the books
It looks like he's fleshing out scenes that were mentioned in passing in the book, looks like we're getting more Rabban, more Chani, I'm excited. If it wasn't Denis, it's have reservations. It's a film adaptation, and unless he uses a ton of inner monologue and long drawn out scenes of verbal exposition, he's showing instead of telling the story of Dune.
