was this movie made by THE PROUD BOYS , where are the black actors , any people of color ?? not even a lesbian ? the Oscar for the most RACIST movie ever made goes to Christopher Nolan
Cillian Murphy is giving me chills from the trailer alone. Anyone who’s seen Peaky Blinders, or really any of his roles, knows he has unbelievable chops.
Cillian Murphy is perfect for this role, he's one of the greatest actors ever at showing the intensity and the inner demons of characters. He has Oppenheimer's mannerisms, body language, tone, and physical stature down perfectly.
He is one of the best actors that nobody knows his name. I have never seen him in a bad movie or even if a bad movie, he is great in it and makes it better.
Man, I hope Cillian gets that well-deserved Oscar for this, from 28 days later to peaky Blinders and amd everything in between and now a movie that might push him to that recognition. One of the greatest actors in the last 20 years.
Geiger counter! From the Wikipedia page about the inventor: "Geiger endured the Battle of Berlin and subsequent Soviet occupation in April/May 1945. A couple of months later he moved to Potsdam, dying there two months after the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan." Well that's an uncertain time to leave this world.
"Until somebody builds a bigger bomb." I love that the line seems to be given in nonchalance, a passing comment, and yet at the same time it strikes true like an arrow through the chest. Be it the audience or Oppenheimer himself realizing that this bomb is not the end, but the beginning of a chain of competition to see who can be more destructive, who can take away the most lives with the push of a button.

My grandpa was on a navy ship back when the military was doing nuclear testing on our own soldiers. Him and everybody else aboard was awoken early one morning, given special eye-protection and told to stand on the starboard side and look to the horizon. He said even wearing the eye-protection, the light from the initial flash was so bright, that when he shielded his eyes with his hand, he could see the bones in his fingers through his skin. My grandpa died of cancer, though it's fair to mention he was also an asbestos installer after his time in the military until that was phased out. Didn't really stand a chance to avoid the cancer, really.

@@alexiaNBC One of the most famous examples of Manhattan Project scientists’ moral conflicts is J. Robert Oppenheimer’s invocation of lines from the Bhagavad Gita to describe the reaction to the Trinity Test: “We knew the world would not be the same. A few people laughed, a few people cried, most people were silent. I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture the Bhagavad Gita. Vishnu is trying to persuade the prince that he should do his duty and, to impress him, takes on his multi-armed form and says ‘Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.’ I supposed we all felt that, one way or another.”
Watched this movie on a carnival cruise, laying on the pools chairs that over looked the pool obviously and the big movie screen.the movie started at 1230am, so it was really dark, and there was a light mist of rain the entire time. Such a incredible experience man, loved this movie. My next cruise will be timed with the release of some fire movies, specifically because of how good this viewing was.
Lol. Cruises are lame to begin with. Just travel somewhere. Why stay trapped on a ship. But if your gonna trap yourself on a ship at least stay away from a damn screen. Come on man

The only shitty part tbh is the lines, long lines just to eat and if your a pot head, like me, your gonna have a hard first few days without any since that shit is federally illegal
This film looks absolutely unreal. Cillian Murphy is so talented and expresses Oppenheimer's discomfort with the Manhattan project so perfectly. Cannot wait to see this in IMAX. This could very easily be my favorite movie this year
I think it's going to be a big flopped on box-office and it is just another whiteman movie to show their savageness on screen , but ignoring all the facts that this psychopath killed thousands of innocent people on earth, may god never give this devil peace
Oppenheimer was often plagued with bouts of depression; Cillian has an exceptional keenness for embodying the qualities of depression on screen and emotionally displaying it. I am sure he will have an outstanding portrayal of him
I mean, to be honest, I would have depression if I created the means for the human race to kill themselves via bombs out of spite towards another country.
In retrospect he was pretty ignorant because the Germans were never going to make a nuke due to all the resources needed. Germany at the time was a beat dog waiting for the Russians to beat them down into submission.
Calling all Spiderlings and Nolan cultists, the victory of Spiderverse, Oppenheimer, Suzume and Ghibli's How Do You Live in the Oscars, Golden Globes and Emmy's are guaranteed. Gather, Rejoice and sabotage Wish, Elemental, Barbie and Kraken by review bombing those films so that they will flop. Make sure Disney will shutdown on their 100th anniversary so that this year will be a year that they will remember. Now go forth!!!!
He doesn't even know how to act enthusiastic There are actors who pretty much morph into their character. Cilian Murphy is a great actor, but not even close to the greats
The silence during the bomb was completely surprising. I think it was genius. Not only did it mirror the quiet they were actually experiencing, but they were horrifyingly surprised in that moment too. It actually served the uncomfortable tension of the moment far better than an MCU explosion for the 10 millionth time.
It was striking that in a packed modern theatre, there was total silence in the audience for that long sequence. I agree it was a brilliant choice - one of many.
A man so driven by his ambitions only to be destroyed by his accomplishments. Oppenheimer deserves to be heard more than anyone, I'm glad it's finally here, and I'm glad it's Nolan that's telling it.
Yeah, no, the real story is a lot simpler. Oppenheimer made a big act about it because he wanted to be remembered as "the guy" that did it, even though there were a lot of other people with just as much contribution. J. Oppenheimer: "I dedicated years to willingly helped invent the most destructive weapon on Earth and now I feel bad about it how could this happen to me AAAAHHH I have become deatheriono! Mr. President, I have blood on my hands. It turns out Project Jap-nuker 15000 tons of TNT in a box was a weapon of terror, not a resolver of peace!" Truman: "Never come back into my office ever again you stupid fucking nerd." Oppenheimer knew exactly what he was doing, he did an act specifically so he would be remembered for it. He had zero regrets behind those fake tears.
it was a race against the germans, they wanted heavy water from norway in order to develop their own. I dont think his ambitions were scientific moreso existential. The irony is that the war with germany was over before they developed it and was dropped on japan instead who had no weapons program
What do you think has prevented world War 3,4,5,6 from happening? The nukes did establish unseen peace. And if will still last quite a while. Oppenheimer helped kill thousands and save billions, he was just more focused on the formal
You mean Nolan? Well, he doesn't rehashes old content, doesn't cast actors due to diversity quotas, doesn't force modern politics into historical drama or fiction. So essentially he is the opposite of woke hollywood.
If you ever have regrets, just imagine being this man. Being a scientist as important as Oppenheimer is a blessing and a curse. You make humanity evolve but also at the same time you give them something to destroy themselves.
Mankind would manage that even without him. Besides, the atomic bomb has prevented a third world war which would have cost even more lives than the second.
Then the guy was harassed by the US government, McCarthy, and his goons for the rest of his life for criticizing the US's constant escalation of deadly weapons. FBI did the same with Einstein and would have probably blacklisted him if not for his popularity.
I loved the part when Thomas Shelby retired from his life as a Peaky Blinder and moved to the US to make a nuke with Einstein. One of the greatest moments in cinema history.
I work the night shift, and you've reminded me that it's already July 20 here. I went to see Oppenheimer before going to work. It was amazing. I want to experience it again.
Lockhart lost his memory so badly that he travelled back in time and reformed his ways inadvertently, becoming one of the greatest scientists of all time
So many talented actors in one film. I just can’t wait to see this. It gives me chills. Another piece of Nolan art - meant for his canvas: The Big Screen!
It never fails to amaze me how Christopher Nolan, even without attending film school, manages to create such unique, outstanding, pieces of art and become one of the best directors of all time.

2:43 From the threat of the Nazis to a circumference around the city of Moscow really heightens the tension of the Cold War..a sheer pure genius from those who put together a trailer for this Nolan Epic.
I think it is more about when the nazis had encircled Moscow before the freezing cold started and before Stalin finally sended the special cold units from Siberia, people forget that nazis were a few miles short of getting from the kremlin I think it shows the high stakes because those were the dates around when NM project started I 1941-1942
After seeing the Nazis push through Russia like it was nothing I'm guessing the thought of Moscow being bombed might have played a roll with the first bombs.. let's be real tho, the Russian counter offenseof ww2 is the still greatest of all time. A literal meat grinder.
Wonder if they are gonna show McCarthy's goons harassing him, Einstein, and many many others for daring to speak against the US's further insane escalation of destructive weapons after Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
The speech scene was absolutely terrifying and the way the tension builds in 15-20 minutes before the bomb goes off and then complete silence, Nolan is a genius filmmaker. Also there were many scenes where music is used to dial up the tension and the background score is absolutely haunting and bone chilling to say the least.
Anytime the background started shaking I knew I was gonna see something horrific. This film is a classic Nolan spectacle that left me utterly depressed in the *best* way
I was caught COMPLETELY off guard when it was pure silence and the fire mushroom cloud rising before the cinema erupted in a mighty crack. This was definitely intentional because I remember Interstellar being the complete OPPOSITE, where Mann blows the airlock and there's a mighty bang before silence.
Finally watched it! What can I say. Outstanding 5* It truly deserved every single award it won. An incredibly thought provoking factual drama that makes one really fear what once again could become a reality. And instead of blaming the scientists who were instructed to create a destruction on a scale that the world had never witnessed and an event which changed history, blame the politicians who commanded it. One must bare in mind that the war in the Europe had concluded when Germany surrendered on 8 May 1945. So was it necessary for the United States to detonate two atomic bombs over the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which killed between 129,000 and 226,000 people? . The subsequent trials and persecution of individuals that unfolded during the McCarthy years, whilst spreading fear of alleged communist and Soviet influence on American institutions and of Soviet espionage in the United States, blaming the very man they had previously anointed as their Saviour, is hypocrisy at its best. There is not one performance in it that was not truly convincing or mesmorisimg. This is the realisation that cinema, when told so brilliantly is a true form of art. Oppenheimer shatters the glass ceiling for any future film maker or actor. Be warned it’s long, but it never ever loses your attention. And that for me is a true reflection of perfection. I highly recommend it.
Let's all give a shout to Christian Bale. Even the trailer shows how well he coped with the role of the atomic bomb. another incredible transformation for the sake of the role.
@8866 Panda Thank you so very much for sharing this incredible account. May God bless your father and all the other victims of such indefensible evil and unspeakable horror. I encourage you to continue sharing it, for words are incredibly powerful. It has been quite some time since anything I've read has moved me to tears, and this did. Merely knowing about the power or capacity of the bomb is not enough to fully or adequately appreciate just how heinous and wicked its use was. Reading this vivid and powerful account had a much, much greater impact and left a far deeper impression.
@@HipsterBrooo Get over yourself. Oppenheimer didn't say this until an interview much later. It's a fairly inconsequential quotation that everybody remembers him for, but it pales in the face of what he -- and all the other scientists -- actually DID: They insisted on creating the Atomic Energy Commission to prevent the bomb from becoming the exclusive toy of the US military.
@@robertmorris8997 well yes I have I believe that’s what the film will be about the Manhattan project and how it led to the development of nuclear weapon
I'll reserve judgment until I see the movie. My father worked on the project, and yes, they really were uncertain if their invention would destroy the world. Dad was kept in the dark about what he was headed for until he got there. They just gave him a bunch of intelligence tests, combed over his educational background, grilled him about every person he knew, and put him on trains that went all over the country until he had no idea where he was. They trucked him up a steep mountain at oh-dark-hundred to a muddy, unfinished set of barracks. He started out in explosives, shunted over to the trigger problem, worked briefly with the guys tickling the dragon's tail, and then the big guys found out he was a good writer. So they gave him keys to the whole project and said "write up our history please." Too bad Chris Nolan never approached us. The only person I'm aware was interested in what my dad had to say was a philatelist who discovered he was the guy who collected Russian stamps and drove the mail screeners crazy.

This is one of the best trailers I’ve ever seen. The way it lulls you into complacency, with the impression that you’re looking at one type of movie, only to punch you in the gut during the last 10-15 seconds is really remarkable. And perfectly reflective of the actual story of Oppenheimer and the atomic bomb.
I feel like all of the trailers were doing it. Until this trailer came out, they always had the tone of the basic Oscar bait bio pic drama. Here they do the same until the end when they show what the movie is actually about
2:45 Oppenheimer’s life is actually quite sad and inspiring, he realized just what he had created but by then it was too late, many say he is the one that made the weapon that can end the world but even if he had not made the weapon other countries would have developed it regardless
I wouldn't doubt that someone else would've made it, especially considering anthropological evidence of societies independently developing things like language
That's absolutely correct Iron. It was inevitable. We discovered the radioactive materials, and the idea of how to use it was known. We just didn't know how yet. Somebody would have figured it out. Sadly, that's the human condition. What should have been a boon for humanity with this technology, what's the first thing we do???? Build a F***EN Bomb. What's the first thing we are doing with AI Technology? Use it for Deep Fakes, and $$$ scams. Yikes!
It's not so simple. Explaining that someone else would do it anyway is morally VERY dangerous. Could the killer of Lincoln justify himself by saying that someone else could have killed Lincoln anyway? Edit: I didn't want to say that Oppenheimer = the killer of Lincoln. I wanted to show how dangerous it is to say that you shouldn't have any remorse if you can justify your bad action by saying that someone else would do it anyway. You can't be 100% sure that someone else would successfully build an atomic bomb + the person who did it is YOU. There are situations where you can be almost 100% sure that someone else would do that anyway, but it's still important what you did to prevent them if you could somehow. In that situation there would be higher chance that the atomic wouldn't be created or would be created at slower pace if he didn't participate in the Manhattan Project. (of course you are not responsible for the entire world). And now for people who still thinks that the fact that you did something bad or you didn't do something good doesn't matter if someone else would do that anyway. So now let's go in the opposite direction. If you were a German soldier (let's assume a low rank) during WW2 and you helped the Jews, can you say that your actions make no sense because millions of Jews will die anyway, there is a good chance that those you have hidden will be shot too, and if that happens, you might die as well? NO, because maybe they won't find them, maybe there will be more people like you and maybe it will have some impact on the world. Plus, it's what YOU could have done that counts. You did as much as you could and it's NOT that important whether you DEFINITELY succeed, because the most important thing is ACTIONS. As a single entity, we don't have influence on every event in the world, but this definitely does not mean that our actions don't make sense when they may fail, it is important with what attitude and commitment we do them.
@@KoczulMoczulhat’s a false equivalence. Killing someone versus creating something are two completely different things. Especially when much of the world is motivated to created something as desirable as a more effective energy source, and weapons.

Nolan is my favorite director of all time, but i'm afraid this might fall a bit flat, just like Dunkirk did. The fundamental issue here is that we know the outcome. What makes Nolan's movies so special is how well the story is crafted and how the viewer needs to piece the puzzle to figure out the ending. Hope i'm wrong but i'm definitely keeping my expectations low for this one.
I was supposed to watch this with my uncle, who taught me everything about Oppenheimer, his team, and the Manhattan Project. I grew to love knowing anything about those things. I was so happy when they announced that it's going to be a movie. Unfortunately, my uncle passed away last March, and I'll be watching this alone now.

I just watched it at the imax and masterpiece doesn’t do it justice. That explosion scene….. I think Nolan is a genius filmmaker. I’m predicting that Cillian and Robert Downey Jr will win Oscars.
Deluded. I watched Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb by Stanley Kubrick years ago. That build your approach and perspective on war, ideology and myths, especially nationalist myths. Then you need to investigate and interrogate history. Personally, mediocre American and British professors taught me ‘history’ of the US and Britain. I learnt history when I began to question what I was taught and after university.
The Geiger counter ticking sound never fails to give me chills down my spine. Can't wait for this masterpiece to be presented on the big screen. *O P P E N H E I M E R*

Totally agree. I've seen Cillian in a quite few movies and always wondered why he hasn't received MORE recognition. He deserves it. Hopefully, this time around?
It turns out Project Jap-nuker 15000 tons of TNT in a box was a weapon of terror, not a resolver of peace!"
Truman: "Never come back into my office ever again you stupid fucking nerd."
Oppenheimer knew exactly what he was doing, he did an act specifically so he would be remembered for it. He had zero regrets behind those fake tears.
it was a race against the germans, they wanted heavy water from norway in order to develop their own. I dont think his ambitions were scientific moreso existential. The irony is that the war with germany was over before they developed it and was dropped on japan instead who had no weapons program

Finally watched it! What can I say. Outstanding 5*
It truly deserved every single award it won.

Robert Downey junior is the bad guy
I feel like all of the trailers were doing it. Until this trailer came out, they always had the tone of the basic Oscar bait bio pic drama. Here they do the same until the end when they show what the movie is actually about
@@ReverseSideArms not really
And the trailer is the best part of the entire movie. Trust me.
@@calledout4437 I’m watching today and I’m extremely sceptical
Indeed. Hence the age old debate:
Is science, invention and maths
Discovered or created.
@@KoczulMoczulhat’s a false equivalence.
Killing someone versus creating something are two completely different things.
Especially when much of the world is motivated to created something as desirable as a more effective energy source, and weapons.
"Oppenheimer when he went into Truman's Office with Dean Acheson said to the latter, wringing his hands:"I have blood on my hands". So glad that visionary directors like Nolan exists who figured out a way to tell these real stories backed by a high production budget.
Well they tell a version of the story never the actual truth. It was the British who first conceived of the Atomic bomb and had, at the time almost the entire worlds supply of Uranium. After realising they wouldn't have the resources to finish the project without the Axis discovering they handed everything they had over to the Americans as an incentive to join the war.

Yahudi propagandacısı Nolan, hiç bir şekilde insanlığın katili olduğunu itiraf eden Oppenheimer’ı masum gösteremez.
"Ben artık dünyaları yıkan ölümün kendisiyim. "
(Robert Oppenheimer/ Fizikçi)
(Test amaçlı İlk atom bombası patlatıldıktan sekiz saniye sonrasında söylediği söz)
Hope i'm wrong but i'm definitely keeping my expectations low for this one.
lol what a stupid comment
I was supposed to watch this with my uncle, who taught me everything about Oppenheimer, his team, and the Manhattan Project. I grew to love knowing anything about those things.
