I'm honored to say that I was alive and well at the time this man walked the earth. He will be a historic icon that people will talk about centuries from now. We were lucky enough to live it. Thank you for changing so many lives for the better, Mr. Robin Williams. RIP.
Oh Robin - sadly, sadly missed. One of the funniest and most talented humans to ever walk The Earth in my opinion - almost impossible to keep from laughing when he was performing. A kind and generous soul as well, always so eager to get other people to laugh and feel better. I'm always touched by Steven Spielberg's story about the time when he was making Schindler's List. The work would depress him terribly, hanging over him like a giant black mass, so arrangements were made that, at the end of every shooting day, he'd spend an hour or so on the phone with his buddy Robin, who would work his ass off to cheer him up and make him laugh. Spielberg often credits Robin with helping him to get through it and get the movie made. Wherever he is now, I hope he was able to find some peace.
After watching this video I felt the urge to dig out, once again after many, _many_ years, the first stand up show of his that I ever saw. It was the Grammy Award Winning, "An Evening at The Met," recorded and released in 1986. Sometime in the dim and distant past of the early nineties, a school friend loaned me a VHS tape that he'd apparently recorded from a TV showing. I didn't know what to expect at all, except that all my buddies who'd borrowed the cassette before me assured me it would be one of the funniest things I ever saw. I'd seen Robin in a few movies at that point, as well as Mork and Mindy, so I knew who he was, knew he was funny and knew I liked him, but that had all mostly been someone else's material. I'd never heard him doing his own gags. I wasn't expecting the naughty words - that's why I'd thought nothing at all of watching the show while my mother and her mother were sitting on the other side of the room. I cannot remember my exact age, but it would have been somewhere in the early teens. Too young, in their eyes, to be hearing the TV yelling things like, "What the fuck am I doing here?" or, "Mickey Mouse to a three-year-old is a six foot fucking rat!" and especially not stuff like, "Here's a little warning sign if you have a cocaine problem: Number 1, if you come home to your house and there is no furniture and your cat's going, "I'm out of here, prick," WARNING! Number 2, if you have this dream, where you're doing cocaine in your sleep, and you can't fall asleep and doing cocaine in your sleep and can't fall asleep AND YOU WAKE UP and doing cocaine - BINGO! Number 3, if on your tax forms, it says "50,000 dollars for snacks," MAY DAY!" I had to watch the tape, after dark, on my little portable TV/VHS all in one, with headphones on and my duvet stretched over everything so nobody would see the light. I cried and cried with laughter. My guts hurt, my sides hurt, especially from trying desperately not to make a sound and give myself away. First time I'd seen *_ANYTHING_* like it. A special experience - it obviously stuck pretty damn hard in my mind 'cos even seeing it for the first time in at least a decade, I could recite practically the whole show as it played. I so wish he hadn't kept all his pain and sadness inside, and had talked to someone and gotten some help. It's awful to think of him locking it all in, letting it poison him because he thought everyone expected him to be funny all the time. He'll be missed, loved and admired for a long time to come.

AND HE KILLED HIMSELF BECAUSE OF THE SAME COCAINE ADDICTION WHICH HAD CAUSED HIM TO BE SO FUNNY. WAS IT WORTH IT? ASK HIS FATHERLESS CHILDREN AND WIDOWED WIFE.
@@alisongrace9881 It's medically proven that long term cocaine users cease to be able to produce dopamine in their brains which causes massive depression. The same year Robin Williams died he checked himself into a drug rehab clinic in Minnesota. When he tried to quit cocaine his brain could no longer produce natural dopamine, he got massively depressed, and he hung himself with his own belt. Hard drugs are illegal for a reason, and Robin Williams spent his entire adult life as a scofflaw supporting the murderous cocaine cartels by buying their product, which killed him in the end.
@Grady Whitman Thank you! Finally someone speaking the truth about Robin Williams. His manic delivery that he was loved for was completely a result of cocaine use. And cocaine probably caused his early death since it's proven that long term cocaine use destroys the brain's natural ability to produce dopamine and he got massively depressed when he tried to quit the drug.
Hes hilarious but can be exhausting to watch because you have to listen so close. His mind is that of a 100mph person in a 55mph world. I loved and respected this great man. RIP Robin Williams.
At the time I didn't realize the level of genius this man was... Epic Even at 50 years old I struggle with depression too. What I have found is those you think are your friends become the first to abandon you. Mostly because they don't understand your confusion. I guess that is my excuse for them anyway. Every single day is a battle. What a tragic death. One of the great minds in showbiz. RIP RW
Carolyn Worthington I appreciate your comment it was thoughtful of you. I had an uncle who battled depression for at least 35-40 years. After his grandkids finished college he ended his life at 70. I also had a nephew that decided life wasn't worth living at 20. Crosses my mind sometimes, but I have too much to live for ... i have a great family and I enjoy life too much. I am also eternally pissed at my relatives that did that for the pain they caused their families. But thanks again ... hate to air too much out on a open board, but it is what it is.
Scott, you touch more lives than you realize. This world can be a cruel, cold and lonely place. But there are people like you & Robin & Carolyn who go out of their way to bring comfort to others. Please continue to fight, you are needed and loved more than you know.

Nah, I know someone who was on Robins level, could talk continuously and never ran out of jokes. Absolutely hilarious. He was also a narcissist and later on became addicted to hard drugs and never recovered. These people are out there, they're just rare, and even more rarely on television.

To understand how funny Robin Williams really was, you need to watch only the reactions of Johnny Carson in this video. Carson was the battle-hardened Godfather of comedy. He created the careers of almost every famous American comedian over a period of three decades. Notice how Carson lights up like an exuberant kid on Christmas morning as Robin performs his magic.

A lot of this was humor based on what was happening at that time that some may not get if they’re not old enough to remember events of ‘87; the stock market crash, corrupt televangelists Jim and Tammi Faye Bakker, etc... but Robin is on fire here as usual.
@Grady Whitman Thank you!
He's literally serious for 10 secs in the whole interview:)))He will forever remain in our memories!
His thought process is unmatched!!
Hes hilarious but can be exhausting to watch because you have to listen so close. His mind is that of a 100mph person in a 55mph world. I loved and respected this great man. RIP Robin Williams.
At the time I didn't realize the level of genius this man was... Epic
Even at 50 years old I struggle with depression too.
Carolyn, you are a good person
Scott, you touch more lives than you realize. This world can be a cruel, cold and lonely place. But there are people like you & Robin & Carolyn who go out of their way to bring comfort to others. Please continue to fight, you are needed and loved more than you know.
Thank you for the kind words
Battle on, ...
I loved watching Robin Williams and his energy. When I deeply miss him, he is only a click away. Thank you, You Tube 💜🤘
God is with you Robin - you were a gift for the whole world to treasure RIP
lol you mourn for paul walker also?
He is rotting in hell
Robin Williams was real.........
God Bless you Robin, see you in heaven. You were the Best of the Best.
🌹, good day to you. I 💕 love your comment, nice saying
Greetings beloved 💕I hope you don’t feel I’m bothering you,I can’t just inbox for no reason,if I’m permitted i can tell you what I sensed
RIP Robin Williams you are and will always be the funniest man ever.
Idk why I read that with Spocks voice...
No comedian will ever be able to improve live like him. Brilliant
@Hello there, how are you doing this blessed day?
Instead of a run-on sentence Robin Williams invented run-on comedy, one continuous stream of commentary and jokes
More like run-on, incoherent blathering.
I agree but remember simple minds and simply amused..he was a cokehead.his ramblings are annoying do another line robin
Eing
Nah, I know someone who was on Robins level, could talk continuously and never ran out of jokes. Absolutely hilarious. He was also a narcissist and later on became addicted to hard drugs and never recovered. These people are out there, they're just rare, and even more rarely on television.
Don Buick a lot of celebs do coke. A LOT. Johnny depp is one of them. I wish my friends were this funny on coke
I absolutely adore him and all his work. I loved watching him as a child in Mork and Mindy and then all his many films. He will be sorely missed.😭
to see Johnny laugh that hard as we are what a talent we see in Robin, what a amazing man of funny RIP my friend.
I still love watching and listening to you, Robin Williams. And I still sympathise with your sad and lonely childhood. 🥰🤗😮💨
Robin Williams was possessed as Johnny puts it....He was possessed by comic genius & unbeatable, unmatched great talent.
More like coked up!
@@alisongrace9881 if you don't laugh and laugh hard you are one cold women
Who cares if he was addicted or liked to sniff he paid the price it was his choice
@@liamroutledge931 I do laugh, and did laugh. I'm not 'a women' - I'm a woman. Singular. Nor am I cold, far from it. I love Robin, and he would be the first to admit that he was coked up! I'm not judging him for it either, he was a great comedian and a lovely soul. But he was not 'possessed' he was on cocaine, he said so himself. Doesn't make him a bad person. 'ONE COLD WOMEN' ... LOL! Perhaps you are one cold 'men'.
@muriels566 idiot
@@alisongrace9881 you sound like a judgmental, shallow person with no compassion or empathy.
He just killed it at will, every time...i miss him.
It was literally a stand up special every time he was on
Surely the greatest all-round comedy talent that ever lived.
Friggin genius. Johnny loved him so much that he had him on the show just before he retired.
Never again will we ever see his comedic genius, or maybe even insanity. Dammit Robin, I'm so sorry your gone. Rip, never be anything close again.
GENIUS INTERVIEW!!! Robin Williams deserved the Academy Award for Best Actor in Good Morning, Vietnam in 1987. The most Intelligent, insightful, affecting film about a divisive subject.
Thank you, Robin, for all the laughs :)
YOU SHOULD THANK COCAINE FOR ALL THE LAUGHS. WITHOUT COCAINE ROBIN WILLIAMS WOULD HAVE BEEN NOTHING. IT ALSO CAUSED HIS SUICIDE IN THE END AS WELL SINCE WHEN HE TRIED TO QUIT USING COCAINE HIS BRAIN COULD NO LONGER PRODUCE SEROTONIN BECAUSE OF SO MANY YEARS OF COCAINE ABUSE.
drServitis by
We should thank the mexican drug cartel for their generous heaping of heroin and cocaine that is killing our young people in this country....
@@merisolii8008 I blame whomever invented the Internal Combustion Engine, which is nigh invaluable, when it comes to transporting and/or acquiring said Mexican Jumping Drugs. All the kids wanted was a neat thing to sow the Class, during "Show and Tell." Had only they known the dangers of the Mexican Jumping Drugs. One second, they are sitting, on a Desk/Table, all nonchalant, then, one of them Jumps and as the Kids open their pieholes, gasping, in delight......The Jumping Drugs strike, forcing themselves into their victims awaiting pieholes. Gasps of delight, turn, to gasps of horror. Quickly, the entire Kindergarten Class, lay, in ruin, as the forceful Drugs have successfully forced their way to population controlling glory. Oh, the humanity......the....humanity. As for the Teacher, well, they went to the Teacher's Lounge. Smoke break. Edit: "show"
@@drServitis Geeze you are an IDIOT.
Must have been such a blast interviewing this guy. He will forever be missed.
He was brilliant. Miss him dearly. Wish he was still around to comment on what is happening in the States.
My adhd helps me keep up with robin, it’s great
The funniest man that ever walked the earth.
Same!
THANK HIS LIFE-LONG COCAINE ADDICTION.
THAT IS ALSO WHAT CAUSED HIS EARLY DEATH BY SUICIDE.
drServitis that is not true. Cocaine had the opposite effect on him. It calmed him down. Cocaine didn't make him smart. He had a photographic memory and was brilliant. Dementia from having Parkinson's disease caused him to commit suicide.
+Catg1222 Technically, it was Lewy's Body Dementia, which is actually kinda worse, but easily mistaken for it.
Absolutely.
I truly believe Robin could do anyone's voice. I miss him !! He can make you laugh and that's great for the soul.
Who doesn't respect and love this guy??!!
I thought he was AWESOME IN GOOD WILL HUNTING WOW
You have to respect him as you would respect anyone but his style of comedy is not for everyone, it certainly wasn't for me.
He is not funny, is silly , is stupid
Robin Williams for ever💗

And once again the great Johnny Carson proved he was THE BEST at his business sitting back and just letting Robin work. God do we miss both of you wonderful guys!
Robin Williams is/was truly the BESTEST. No one will ever ever compare to this ONE & ONLY TALENT!!
One of the greatest in the world RIP Robin
“Yes, you’ll have bad times, but they will always wake you up to the things you weren’t paying attention to.”
- Robin Williams
So much energy , and the next 10 jokes are already lined up in his head, he is amazing, rip 🙏
RIP my favorite comedian.
We all miss you Robin thank you for the good time
Absolutely brilliant, I never tire of listening to and watching Robin Williams. RIP beautiful human 💞🙏🏽
One of greatest comedic minds in our history The man was quick I always wanted to b like him my hero Rip you will b missed
He made everyone laugh but couldn't find his own laughter, rest in peace Ronin!
Pretty sure he found his own laughter just fine, he killed himself because he was literally losing his mind from dementia...
He needed pot and good puss
@ I have to agree with you , I never found his so called comedy funny. I see nothing funny in this interview.
Charles Burdette .. ronin ?
John Robinson you must be boring to hangout with then lol
Robin had such amazing energy & wit. Master of a 1000 voices! Very sorry the world couldn't give back to him what he gave to us, maybe he'd still be here!😢❤
One of the greatest inprovasational funniest comedians of all time he will be truly missed and we were truly blessed to witness his art.
@Hello there, how are you doing this blessed day?
His talent and genius are incredibly spontaneous.
A lot of this was humor based on what was happening at that time that some may not get if they’re not old enough to remember events of ‘87; the stock market crash, corrupt televangelists Jim and Tammi Faye Bakker, etc... but Robin is on fire here as usual. I don’t know which is funnier... watching Robin, or watching Johnny’s reactions to his rapid fire humor. RIP to Robin, Johnny and Ed. Late night tv was never quite the same after Johnny retired.
I never watched that show again after he retired.
I was a bit too young to be interested in the world news back then, so I didn't get most of this. Now though, it's fuckin hilarious.
cocaine
I'm so sorry we lost such a great Comedian.
we lost a whole lot of people since this was shown...
After losing Robin and Richard Pryor the world of comedy was never the same. By far the greatest comedians the world ever saw.
Robin YES! Richard NO!
Richard Pryor was NEVER funny
The greatest comedians? If you mean druggie type comedians, you may as well include George Carlin, Cheech & Chong, and Mitch Hedberg.
The words true comic genius are the only way to describe him. He was really in a class all by himself
Robin is the only other guest I've seen that had to be Johnny's easiest interviews, while also being the most entertaining. Only other was Dangerfield.
how about don rickles?
how could someone this wonderful take his own life? R.I.P Robin
Amazing guy with so much energy, wasn't he? And he was so spontaneously funny as well. No replacement.
>And he was so spontaneously funny. You got that right. I ran into him in a shoe store in San Francisco and he put on a short show for me and my girlfriend. Amazing!

The world is a Darker place now without Robin , he was one in a Billion.
We really could have done with his eclectic sense of humour now more than ever with this pandemic and its fallout.

Thank you for this wonderful tv moment of Robin Williams!! So funny, and have never seen it before!!
Lets not forget to give kudos to the Medellin Cartel for their invaluable contribution to this performance.
Classic Robin Williams Thank you. RIP
His mind retained everything he heard and saw, then spat at you rapid fire in mural of painted concept.
When you thought you were to interview Mr Williams and it turns out you split your ribs laughing. What a person as he was a rare kind . Rest well Robin
RIP Robin Williams . What a wonderful man . A legend . He passed away too soon .
