What a poetic example of the stark contrast in personalities between the two. Both monumental talents, but I'd much rather hang out with Jack. Maybe it's a product of the era he came up in, but that guy definitely knows how to let loose and have fun. DDL strikes me as the sober guy at the wrap party who leaves early and goes to bed at 10pm sharp on a Friday night so he can be up at dawn to cobble shoes in silence for several hours while the rest of the crew is hungover. Nothing wrong with that, it's an admirable way of life. But I'm more of a "go to the award ceremony stoned" kinda guy. And then there's Robin, who was so full of talent, he proved to be a better actor than most full-fledged actors of his generation, despite being a comedian first and foremost. What a legend.
If you watch his other awards speeches he usually takes them off so I think that is something he does to show appreciation. So I think he was genuinely like “oops” when Robin called him out.
He brought Robbin on stage and that entire room went home laughing hysterically and smiling ear to ear forgetting there was even awards being given. What a man.
This was a real kind gesture on Jack's part. Robin never had a big ego, but he was a sensitive soul and being singled out in the wrong way was probably a pretty hurtful snub. The one thing that's always made Robin happy was making other people laugh, and Jack must've known that being on that stage for a few minutes slaying a crowd of people he admired was probably a better prize for him than another paperweight award anyway.
Having said that, Im sure Robin was extremely humbled and pleased to just be in such talented company and group of actors. Especially since he considers himself a comedian. How does Robin Williams's mind work so fast - the set decorator line, the Irish in New York, the 9-iron, and especially, the two "greatest actor" comments and the "Buddhist evening" line. How does he come up with this stuff on the fly?
The death of Robin really upset me to the core. I just still can't believe he is no longer around. He was a genius comic on a level nobody in the world will ever reach. Jack is great too. RIP Robin x
I think we could bring out a fantasy parallel: it would be the same effect as watching or hearing about a death of an angel, because people like Robin Williams are the guardians of our own sanity by making us happy and lough out loud in our darkest moments. An angel dies so we mourn him forever.
I love love love Robin Williams, but I don't think there are enough comments of Daniel Day Lewis. The guy has the sweetest sounding voice in real life, and he was a murdering son of a gun in Gangs of New York. Amazing actors all of them
There was a moment when you look at Jack after he invited Robin up where you can see him thinking to himself, "I may have made a mistake." We miss you Robin. :)
Daniel Day Lewis here, subtle and quiet. The dude has won 3 Oscars for best actor, 4 Baftas, 3 Golden globes, 4 SAGs. One of the best of actors of our time.

In case people are wondering, Daniel Day Lewis thanked Eminem at 1:51 for his character research. Daniel listened to Eminem's music to get into an "angry, self-righteous frame of mind" as Bill the Butcher (his role in Gangs of New York)
When the camera landed on Edward Norton, you could see his gears turning. His face said it all "Im watching a master at work". Ed Was both in wonder and study of Robin
Nah,it Wasnt a time between all Three...Day-Lewis and Jack both won and Williams came in 2nd Place...he was still invited up cause he is and was awesome and funny...and Jack was a bit drunk
Jack and Daniel deserved the award, no doubt but Robin Williams deserved an special award for that incredible improvisation bringing the house down as only him knew how to pull; magnificent talent, unique, we miss you Robin, may your soul rest in peace!

Oh my goodness...
So this was the legendary Jack and Robin combination...
Awesome..
I love love love Robin Williams, but I don't think there are enough comments of Daniel Day Lewis. The guy has the sweetest sounding voice in real life, and he was a murdering son of a gun in Gangs of New York. Amazing actors all of them
Whenever I’m having a bad day, I come and find this video and it always cracks me up into laughter. The chaos is beautiful 😂
Unparalleled wit. His mind was going a thousand miles per second. Incredible, natural talent.
When Jack called robin to do his speech for him, we all knew what was going down
Robin Williams is saving the whole show. He deserves no.1 here.
There was a moment when you look at Jack after he invited Robin up where you can see him thinking to himself, "I may have made a mistake." We miss you Robin. :)
When, the five iron joke
It was always a mistake to let Robin to the mike. The best kind of mistake we paid with our stomach muscles.
Daniel Day Lewis here, subtle and quiet. The dude has won 3 Oscars for best actor, 4 Baftas, 3 Golden globes, 4 SAGs. One of the best of actors of our time.
Also apparently a huge fan of Harvey Weinstein
@@jibberjabberrLike Michael Caine sait it; «Without him I don’t work that much». So in that perspective that Day-Lewis is praising Weinstein was just as expected.
Absolutely brother I had no idea he won 3 though
But definitely not one of the funnier ones
@@jibberjabberr ....Weinstein was a hot commodity to work with in the 90s. i believe a few actors won Oscars because of him and well we all know his dark sick past but you can't deny the guy was making winners out of everyone. Terrible person in my opinion.
The audience reactions shows how much respect Robin garnered. He was so funny and witty. All 3 are legends but Jack and Robin are the ones I grew up watching. Legends
A truly hilarious moment. RIP Robin
Robin, Jack, only you two legends could be so brilliant funny, get drunk and have fun. Complete laugh riot all the way. True legends.
Robin Williams was a comic genius👌
still is and will be
Adi Adrian You know he passed away in 2014, right?
One of My favorite Robin Williams Videos. What a Talent! A King of Comedy and Drama...
Jack being stoned on stage and Spielberg loving every moment of it.
I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve watched this! Love it!! Jack and robin are so great together
Seeing all 3 of these legends on the same stage is absolutely incredible!
Actually it's 4; don't forget Salma. O_o
In case people are wondering, Daniel Day Lewis thanked Eminem at 1:51 for his character research. Daniel listened to Eminem's music to get into an "angry, self-righteous frame of mind" as Bill the Butcher (his role in Gangs of New York)
James Jonathon whoa that is interesting..never heard that
I did not understand that. Thank you. I thought maybe they used one of his tunes in that movie. I never saw it so, thanks.
@@danielgaughan4243 you should def watch it. It's a classic!!!
I was wondering why he thanked Eminem. Thanks!
totally irrelevant but holy shit this was nine years ago... i feel old
When the camera landed on Edward Norton, you could see his gears turning. His face said it all "Im watching a master at work". Ed Was both in wonder and study of Robin
..and the usually reserved Daniel Day Lewis is just loving every minute of it! :)
Hey Academy, do the Oscar telecast like this and ratings will soar!
Only people like Robin Williams and Jim Carrey can do this and knock it out of the park.
daniel day lewis standing like his a CIA agent prtecting the prisdent
😂😂😂
Respect.
And he looks yummy!!!
You got to protect Robin at all costs and that was his job that night.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
it was a tie with three people! lol
Nah,it Wasnt a time between all Three...Day-Lewis and Jack both won and Williams came in 2nd Place...he was still invited up cause he is and was awesome and funny...and Jack was a bit drunk
he quoted Robin, Sir.
Considering everything going on down here he needed someone to cheer him up
@@Sumumabitch78 r/woooooosh
I have probably watched this video hundreds of times over the past couple of years
I’m so happy I got to see this!!! Jack and Robin are making me smile so wide and laugh so hard
Jack and Daniel deserved the award, no doubt but Robin Williams deserved an special award for that incredible improvisation bringing the house down as only him knew how to pull; magnificent talent, unique, we miss you Robin, may your soul rest in peace!
On a stage with two men with immense talent he just blows them away.
The Greatest of All Time Mr. Robin Williams. Rest in Peace
God I've just been watching Robin videos over and over again and each time he still cracks me up like the first... Always there for his fans even after his death, what a legend this guy is. RIP
Daniel is such a soft spoken, wonderful soul
So funny knowing now that it's come out that Jack was stoned out of his mind during this, and not only did he take the opportunity to acknowledge Robin but to call him up as a friend to help cover for him cuz he's the only person he figured could in that state 😂😂😂
Drunk Jack and Budist Robin...This should be legendary...
Jack Nicholson and Daniel Day Lewis got awards, and a jet flew around raising everyone hair. The Kings Jester.
"this is what happens when you give the irish free drinks" lmaoo
I’ve probably watched this more than 10x and this has got to be one of the craziest but funniest thing on any awards show. The most random things from any talented person turns to gold. Thank goodness Robin didn’t win because what came out of his speech here is in itself Oscar-worthy.
DDLewis was so thankful for recognition in his role and then Robin and Jack tear the place down.
Absolutely hilarious.
