I’m from Thurnscoe, half way between Barnsley and Doncaster. My Mum and Dad had a fish and chip shop. MY Mums batter was to die for. 😂I’ve lived in Australia for over 60 years now. NOBODY, NOBODY, makes fish and chips like Yorkshire. Boy, am I looking forward to making this batter. GO RIK
Hi Rik, I can't have fish so I'll have the chips in a well buttered bread bun, peas with a splash of malt vinegar and white pepper and washed down with a cup of the best Yorkshire tea 👍
Love the fish. Love the chips with the malt vinegar and salt. Grew up close to the beach so the smell of the sea, hot sand, Coppertone, and the hot oil and the fish and chips brings back so many memories. We didn't have the mushy peas so never developed a liking. As always, your recipes are down to earth and yummy as all get out. As for that last bit of beer...it would not have stood a chance.
Oh my god made this tonight as per Riks instructions and it was delicious 😅😮😮My dad who is 89 was here and we fried and re-fried and was absolutely delicious 😋 😊 thank x

And my heart goes back to Cape Town where I was born and raised and that's how I grew up folded in paper every Friday night!! This is our go too when we land in Cape Town, first stop!!! Oh how I miss it!!

Hi Rik, fish'n'chips are a memory food. Sight, smell and your a kid again. Friday treat,local chippy, and trying to get a few chips out of the paper on the way home. Pickled onions or a wally, Scraps. Liplickin'. I would never have thought to miss out the flour dredge before dipping in the batter, but as you say : " each to their own". Working at H Salt fish and chips, we coated our fingers on batter before lowering fish on the fryer. The tops of my fingers would go right in the grease. Your way looks much safer😮

Looks incredibly good! Real food… Is it true that traditional wrapping in newspaper absorbs the oils and affects the taste. I was told it tastes better!(?) Great vids!
"Oh no, there's some left!" I think it's against Common Law to let a good beer go to waste no matter the time of day. Better be mindful too of the environment and decrease wasteful practices. Always better to drink the left-over beer before some else does to keep the peace! 😂 🍻
I find fish and chips very hit and miss these days. Apparently, the best fish and chips are in the north of the UK. I get so disappointed when I wind up with stodgy, undercooked batter and soggy chips. I have learned to make my own now and you cannot beat homemade for sure.

I had a lot of very good food in the 3 weeks that I was in England. But, the worst fish and chips, that I have ever had, were there. I do not believe that this was common but they left the skin on the fish which created a soggy mess. Guess I have to go back and try again.
gone off you. Can't get Cod, or any other similar fish, the fish we have here are tropical, and much stronger in flavour. I actually reminiss about glorious Cod and Chips back in the 60's with big flakes of sweet Cod, and best of all cooked in beef dripping.
why did you change your batter from plain flour with baking soda to self raising flour what sucks oil in and is soggy ,used beer and before said just water and the vinegar will react with soda ??seems very double standards and very misleading to beginners !!!
