Lovely recipe, l use a quarter of the total weight to Bramleys, because they mush down beautifully and three quarters of weight to Braeburns because they hold their shape. Peel and chop straight into lemon juice acidulated water.
A GREAT pie Rik. You never fail to make me want to go straight into the Kitchen and give it a go!! And that’s what you are all about, good home made food. Can’t beat it!! ❤️
Rik, I've enjoyed your channel over last 2 years and baked this apple pie exactly how you taught us. With the rich pastry crust. It trully works. Zero failure as you said. Infact the pastry is almost flaky puff. Gorgeous and yummiest I've ever eaten. 🎉🎉🎉 thank you
Hi Rick, just absolutely love your recipes , You guide us through the ingriedients so well ,THANKYOU SO SO MUCH . your Amazing . Diane Australia 🇦🇺 CHEERS MATE 😊😊
I cannot believe how delicious this looks Rik! Although when it was cooked, I did want to see you getting the pie out of the tin, was it tricky? Re the perforated tin, was that to get the pastry more crispy, I have perforated pizza trays, so I'm thinking it was for the same outcome . So very tasty and moreish. You did us proud
Good one! Nothing beats a nice apple pie. Nice tip putting in the eating apple, I always cook my apples first but they can sometimes go bit too mushy. That pastry looks fab, well the whole thing looks fantastic. Thanks for the video Rik. 👍
Made it last week - excellent - best pastry I have made for years - pity I can’t get Bromley apples out here but used Granny Smiths and Jazz and it worked really well - thank you for that recipe - it’s a keeper🤗🤗🤗
This came up on my news feed. Apple pie is my favourite, so decided to watch it. And im glad I did. I like the way you cooked the apples and made sauce. Mostly people boil the apples too much, or not at all, then they are dry. Next time I make an apple pie, I will cook them like this. And i love the lattice top. Im glad that I came across this video from a couple of years ago.
Hi Chef Rik ... I just saw this today. Oh my but that is so different than what I've made...way better!!! And the lattice topping is beautiful. I'm definitely going to do this next time I want apple pie. Thanks for sharing and take care.
@@BackyardChef Bass pubs sold it as a desert, it was basically an Apple pie with what tasted like a meringue folded lightly into the apple filling, the pastry top was then covered with a caramel, similar to the evaporated milk simmered for 2 Hours in the can.......
Looks great with proper filling but I don't think I would have the patience for all that lattice work so we'll settle for a straight a straight pastry top
@@BackyardChef My late Aunt used put some orange zest on top of the apples and stick some cloves into the pie crust on the top, it was one of my favorites when I was kid back in Dublin, Ireland.
@@BackyardChef Thank you for responding. Yes, I rate you and John Kirkwood as very good presenters. For your information, I’m an 88 yr old male who has helped people make improvements in their lives and work. It’s great that you are looking at improvements. I’m impressed. I got quite irritated with the way you kept saying ‘Guys’. If you can leave it out, your presentation will come over as a warm communication, probably even more so. I have definitely subscribed and have already put your advice into practice. David

Apple Pie isn’t American. It’s English, and the first ever written recipe dates back to the 1300’s in an ancient cookbook that still exists and is called ‘The Forme of Curry’. It’s one of the oldest cookbooks in the world. The early pilgrims took the knowledge over to America and the apple seeds to grow apples, as they weren’t native to America.
What a stonking apple pie! Can’t wait to have a go at making one . 😍
