Watched the video to see the point I was struggling with, didn’t really explain it so now I’ve sorted it thought I’d comment ☺️ When getting out the fuel pump hanger mount out, slide the base of it towards the drivers side with a bit of force👌🏽 Cheers
Man i've been eyeballin' that pump on Amazon. Saved to my cart still. Thanks for the video so I can see exactly how it goes with the AEM. Oh I definitely remember removing the gas cap for the fuel filter change. Will be sure to do that again.
Hey man, finally got around to doing my pump! This video helped so much! Was interesting to see the little differences with the 260RS pump setup. But more or less the same. Cheers!
Hey man, been watching your videos and following along! Thank you for the quality and for explaining everything precisely. I had one question regarding the wiring. The ground wire that was attached to the ring around the original fuel pump, what did you do with that? It almost looks like it’s wired in with the negative? If you could let me know that’s be great! Thanks again!
Awesome man! So you basically crimped the ground with the negative wire together and then attached the other negative into the other side of the butt connector? Sorry I’m a bit of a wiring noob lol!
Hey man, did your fuel pump start going out on you by chance? Mr GTR is running lean under boost and won't rev past 3k- mafs have been gone through and my fuel pump is loud. I'm hoping it's the problem. Sorry to bother you, just wanted to know if you think that checks out, your opinion.
Awesome video, about to do this in a week or two so its extremely helpful to know what Im getting into ahead of time. Sounds like you got the same package deal I did from Real Street with the ID1000 injectors and AEM Pump.
Super helpful video as always dude! Thanks for putting the time in to explain it all and show us how to do it. Quick questions: do you need to make any changes to the ECU tune when upgrading to a bigger fuel pump, or are all the changes that are needed just in the fuel pressure regulator? And do you need a FPR for something like a 255 or 320 lph pump in a fairly tame R32 GTR?
No problem man. I don't think you'd need any retuning as long as you can get the fuel pressure to be consistent. A bigger pump could over run the stock FPR.
Ha,I did this job when I got mine , and I was thinking, you didn't mention taking cap off. You spotted it soon enough though 😀 Another good vid. Looking forward to the boot spoiler going on.
sorry if this was asked already but is the stock harness ok for a 320 or 340 pump? Wont be over taxing the wire? my pump is on its way out and I'm looking to replace it but don't need anything crazy. Just worried running a big pump on 30 year old wires from when a pump like this wasn't easily available.
I would think it would be fine. The pump is only going to run as hard as the wiring can feed it. You could always do the fuel pump hardwire upgrade along with replacing the pump just to be safe.
one thing i noticed on my 32GTR is the very common voltage drop on the live side of pump, which im going to fix , but the ground/earth wire acts very strange , when i probe it the test probe flickers between ground and live , when i put a ground to it the pump gets noticeably louder , is yours the same or do i have an issue ?
From what I understand, the R32 GTR uses a dual voltage setup with the fuel pump, at idle it's lower than with throttle. I've been told this is actually controlled via ground. I will be editing another video that I did right after this upgrading the wiring to the fuel pump. I ran a 10ga wire from the battery to the fuel pump using a relay and now I have constant voltage to the pump as I also upgraded the ground wire right to the chassis in the trunk.
It will make the pump run at 12 volts all the time, so it may throw off your tuning at idle (and whenever Nissan has the pump running at less than 12 volts). I didn't switch the ground either, I just spliced into the ground and had it run to the trunk as well.
How did you get the basket/cradle out? I pulled the tab at the bottom and tried to push and pull the basket toward the passenger and driver side and it just won’t come out! Help!!!
It's supposed to slide out, but I think you can also just pull up on the side and it will come off of the guides. It's all plastic down so I'd say be careful doing it that way if you can't get it to slide out.
Hey I just did the install with the very same pump. Im just wondering did you ever try to drive the car before doing the rewire? Mine will idle fine and it drove fine for about 10 minutes but then the rpm gauge started to jump around and it was running lean. Im thinking it either isnt getting enough voltage or maybe i have an injector leak. Any thoughts?
I know this is an old video but, do you need the little red and black wire clip that comes with it? I ordered a walbro 255 and it didn’t come with one.
You need a way to connect the power and ground wires to the pump. So if the stock Wiring connector doesn't work on the new pump, then yes you need the wiring connector that is supposed to come with the pump.
When you were using the heat would it been okay if I used a lighter ,usually I'd use a lighter but because it is relevant to the fuel. would something go wrong if I did
Hey there, I would recommend a heat gun if possible. You could use a lighter, but DO NOT use it anywhere near the fuel tank. I was just heating up the wires, which could have some fuel residue left on them, so just be very careful if you need to use a lighter to heat up shrink wrap/connectors.
so if upgrade my 20DET with a high flow 500hp fuel pump will I need a fuel reg? also I'm aiming for a 300-350hp build. will 32GTR injectors be fine? thanks :)
I'm not familiar with the combinations of injectors and fuel pumps on the rb20. I've been told the stock regulator is fine, but it will probably be over run and increase fuel pressure. So I chose to upgrade to an adjustable fuel pressure regulator so I can set it to what I want.
Completely off subject but that Milwaukee marker you used is my favorite market ever lol awesome video as always, I'm waiting for you to show up at the shop with a can of e85.....hmmmmm
hahahaha nooooo. I work on apache helicopters and I'm just thinking to myself as you started removing the hoses "you don't have to vent the fuel system on a car?" then bam!! I guess you do hahaha. love your videos
Yeah any vehicle with an EVAP system for fuel vapor capture, tends to pressurize. That is why newer cars throw engine warning lights when you leave your gas cap loose. But heck I have done hundreds of fuel pumps and I still forget every once in a while that they do hold pressure.
ahh you meant the locking ring...yeah i forgot to put that back on...had to take the hoses back off and stuff. Saw it sitting in the trunk after buttoning everything up lol...it's installed.
When I replaced my R32 fuel pump with the Nismo one I didn't depressurize the tank or the lines because I'm a tard and basically ended up swimming in fuel. Then it took me literally 60 minutes trying to get the fuel pump out of the cradle. I couldn't find the damn release tab. Couple questions for you 1. Why did you take out the entire cradle? 2. How did you know what the FP should be at? 3. Will you need to re-tune?
lol yeah...live and learn. 1. Because I didn't know any better :) 2. When tuning the deadtime of your injectors, manufacturers give number out for base fuel pressure numbers. 43.5psi is close to the stock pressure so I chose that. 3. I shot this video before my dyno tune, just now go around to editing it :)...so nope, no retune.
A fuel pressure regulator is meant to keep the fuel pressure at a desired pressure at any operation condition. On a turbo or supercharged car, the fuel pressure regulator will increase the fuel pressure 1 psi for every 1 psi of boost. This will keep the fuel pressure at the same pressure with any amount of boost and keep the tuning of the car consistant.
It is also important to use a good quality fuel pressure regulator, the cheap ones are just for looks, and you should not rely on them to provide accurate and consistent pressure, let alone offer rising rates.
Oh noo why AEM? If you are aiming more hp in future, you will run out of fuel with that :p You should been considering something like this, I believe its cheaper also,walbrofuelpumps.com/450lph-walbro-e85-racing-fuel-pump-f90000267.htmlI have it in my car and it flows very good.Sorry for always commenting something, I dont mean to be rude :)
the pump I got as a package deal with my ID1000 injectors. It was pretty much free actually. When I go to flex fuel/E85 this winter I will be doing a Walbro 450 pump actually. I actually have a link to that pump on amazon in the description :) Thank you for watching!
I love your vids !!! I like how your so humble and gentle on the car! You always rock man!!! Keep the Vids coming !!!!
Thank you very much buddy!
Thanks for the tip about the pressure! Same thing happened to me. I was about to drain the tank!
Happened to me 5minutes ago! Panic attack of doom🤣🤣🤣
Watched the video to see the point I was struggling with, didn’t really explain it so now I’ve sorted it thought I’d comment ☺️ When getting out the fuel pump hanger mount out, slide the base of it towards the drivers side with a bit of force👌🏽
Cheers
Do you need a fuel regulator after you put the new pump ? Or work with the stock one ? Thank you
Man i've been eyeballin' that pump on Amazon. Saved to my cart still. Thanks for the video so I can see exactly how it goes with the AEM. Oh I definitely remember removing the gas cap for the fuel filter change. Will be sure to do that again.
No problem..thank you for watching!
Hey man, finally got around to doing my pump! This video helped so much! Was interesting to see the little differences with the 260RS pump setup. But more or less the same. Cheers!
Great man! I'm glad it helped you out!
Nice, this will be one of the first things I would like to replace whenever I get an R32 GTR. Thanks for another awesome vid!
No problem! Thank you for watching!
Would this procedure be the same or similar for an R32 GTS-t with an RB20? Planning a fuel pump upgrade, this is a great DIY!
Thank you...It would be pretty similar. I know the fuel hats are laid out a little different between the models.
Just rewatched this, might have to do this job soon! Shouldn't be too different on my 260RS. Thanks again man!
Yeah shouldn't be too different, but it is a different year/style. I think the R33 and R34 are a little bit different setup.
Man its hard to believe that cars 26 years old it looks so good sweet vid man
Thank you Bob!

Yeah, it's just a ground, so I wired it in with the other ground/negative.

Sorry I’m a bit of a wiring noob lol!
Are you still running this pump on e85 with the 600hp set up or did you have to upgrade to the 450/525 walbro?
I'm still running this pump...but it's only a lift pump for my surge tank setup. The surge tank has 2x Bosch 044 pumps.
Good work on the car so far!
Thank you!

Mr GTR is running lean under boost and won't rev past 3k- mafs have been gone through and my fuel pump is loud. I'm hoping it's the problem. Sorry to bother you, just wanted to know if you think that checks out, your opinion.
Hey, no, my pump is still going strong. If you have a way to check your fuel pressure that should tell you if your pump is bad.
Awesome video, about to do this in a week or two so its extremely helpful to know what Im getting into ahead of time. Sounds like you got the same package deal I did from Real Street with the ID1000 injectors and AEM Pump.
Thank you man. Yup, that's the kit I got. I've since sold the ID1000's, and got ID2000's in preparation for e85/flex fuel :)

Yeah, I'm probably going to "attempt" it tomorrow...but video prob not till next week if it happens. :D
Thanks for the great and useful content! Very informative and enjoyable to watch.
REVV thank you!

No prob...sorry it took so long to edit...I did this back before tuning my car on the dyno.

What forum/s are you on that your getting your install info off of?
Nice video, I believe that box that you pulled out is an standard surge tank nissan made :)
haha yeah sorta...think it's more of a baffle to help with starvation during all those g-forces :)
That's what I meant, baffle ;)

Thank you, I use a turbosmart afpr with custom - 8an

Reed Johnson I didn't drive the car without the rewire while using the new pump. Double check your connections and grounds.
make sure your fuel pressure is correct for your car/mods after installing a new pump.
Interesting video. You said I am not a mechanic. But you know very well, look like a mechanic :)
Thank you for the compliment! I just do it for fun...not trained or anything.
I know this is an old video but, do you need the little red and black wire clip that comes with it? I ordered a walbro 255 and it didn’t come with one.

Your NZ Nissan buddy ;)
+Simon Bowen I know a common upgrade is a rb25 turbo.

+typeslower Haha yeah man its a great marker! I'll be doing flex fuel this winter! 😎👍
*marker
lol dude you make everything look so easy haha
haha thank you...I try to show everything I do. Even when I run into issues.
So you just got rid of the third wire that was attached to the metal Ring that went around the pump itself?
I can't remember. I believe it was a redundant ground on the stock pump.
Did you wire in that third wire with the negative or did you just cover it with the butt splice?
shouldn't the base fuel pressure be 3 bar? (43 psi) so it was correct reading immediately after installing the pump
Yes 43.5 psi with the vacuum hose off of the regulator (0 psi / 0 vacuum)
hahahaha nooooo. I work on apache helicopters and I'm just thinking to myself as you started removing the hoses "you don't have to vent the fuel system on a car?" then bam!! I guess you do hahaha. love your videos

shop towels work alot better than napkins
Have you faced a problem where it shows 3/4 tank of gas??
No, but most likely your fuel sender float is hung up on something if you took it out and put it back in.
what fuel regulator is that?
Turbosmart
good stuff
Thank you :) Just saw your video with your new turbo...looking forward to the next vid!
thanks!
i've subscribed to both of you.
thanks!
:) always check your vids to see if you have done something im about to do :)
did you end up doing the direct 12v mod? how?
Yes I did. I'll edit that video soon.
Sweet. I absolutely want to do that. How do you like the aem pump, I was thinking boch044?
+maxxpennington I like it just fine... It works can't complain there :) will go to a Walbro 450lph pump when I go e85.
+GoodeZilla OK so I'm better off just doing that. I plan on doing e85 right away. well after tune and shit lol
i see modified cars with fuel pressure regulators. What do they do and y do u need one

don't forget to get ethanol rated fuel hose.
