Had a Rheem in CT. Ran 20 years without a glitch, without any maintenance! Got a 7 year old Carrier here in NC, serviced twice a year like clockwork. Spent over 1100 dollars already for 3 faulty relays.
I live in the NE - Have the Rheem RA17 unit and with regular maintenance the system has been trouble free and quiet - plus the variable speed air handler has saved us a lot of money during the summer.
We had a 3.5 ton 16 SEER Rheem A/C installed summer 2018 in southeast Florida. The company that sold it to us and installed it is family-owned. We took a semi-annual service maintenance plan with them. The first full month after installation our electric bill went from $300 per month to $150 per month. We've never had a repair required to the system. Very reliable. Rheem has been a positive experience for us. The only thing that I wish was different is I would like it to be a little quieter. Our original A/C was a Lennox and it was quieter but then again we had to have it repaired a number of times. Based on my experience overall, I would go with a Rheem again.
I can not argue with him. I just replaced a 30 year old Rheem Waetherking system in my house and it did work just not as well. Replaced it with a new 14 seer Rheem. Could not be happier.
I’ve been a Rheem dealer for over ten years. Reliable easy to fix . When your warranty is done the parts aren’t as expensive as other brands.. The cool thing about the cased coil is that it can be installed horizontal as well..
2006 Rheem 5-Ton on my house in Houston, TX. Never even had to change a capacitor. The unit is built like a battleship. Not sure about the current quality though as others have said.
I live in the Charleston SC area and installed the Rheem Prestige 5 summers ago, and have been happy with the performance and humidity control. I would buy again.
Ruud/Rheem was really good back in the 90s and mid 2000s then they started to cheapen the unit.. My new Ruud 15 Seer heat pump has No belly band heater for the compressor or a accumulator. I don't consider a charge compensate a accumulator. Every heat pump I have seen even Gibson and other crap brands have those things. My new heat pump is VERY weak on heat and extremely loud and costed me 8900 bucks... I bought me a 700 dollar dirt cheap Mini split off of Amazon and installed it myself and have turned off my main system, That 18,000 btu Mini split heats and cools my whole house just fine and even if I have to replace the mini split I will come out ahead.. . A friend and wife just installed the Reem A/C. Very informative and knowledgeable material! You’re friend really knows what he’s doing, evidenced by his selection of the Reem units!
Going on 25 years on my RUUD/Weather King 3 ton and it’s still blowing nice cold air. A hard start was installed in the second year and the contactor was replaced twice and the run capacitor once. It’s been a great unit! I had a Weather King 15kw blower installed at the same time and never had any issues with it either.
Great interview. I'm considering the Ruud RP17 side discharge heat pump amongst many other inverter systems. It appears to basically be a Fujitsu mini-split outdoor unit with a mostly conventional Rheem/Ruud indoor air handler, although the indoor runs at 240 volts off the power feed for the outdoor unit.
What's a single row condenser coil? I had a Rheem single stage from the 80s but bottom rusted out so love the new composit base. Thought I'd go with a Carrier but just learned they have the aluminum microtube fins in the heat pump, seeing many cos going this route, even with many complaints. Trane having conversion kits to replace these with copper coils. Supposed to be easily damaged, so looking at a Rheem with a single row condenser coil.
I worked at a residential / light commercial company for 10 years. Installing equipment in finished houses no new construction. We were strictly a Trane dealer at first. We were losing a lot of sales due to the cost of the equipment. We selected Rheem as our lower end equipment line. Another added benefit of using Rheem was the physical size of the air handlers. Trane was a monster of an air handler to get into a knee wall of a cape cod or up the attic steps.
Thanks for sharing, Ken! I am in Merritt Island, FL and I appreciate your expertise regarding Rheem. Well done! I've also learned that no matter what system you replace your existing unit with, EXPERT INSTALLATION IS PARAMOUNT!!!!
We finished our basement, growing our square footage by around 50%. Also replaced a builder-basic AC with a ultra-efficient 20+ SEER Rheem for both our main and basement levels, with zoning and dampers so that one unit can control both floors independently. Our electric bills are equal to those we paid when we did not use our basement for living space! Furnace is also so much more efficient. We’re sold on the brand. The 20+ SEER systems are slow to cool, so not for those who are constantly raising-lowering temperature throughout the day, but if you live in the Deep South and are using AC constantly in summer, a no brainer.
I’ve been a technician 1990 I’m way up north where it’s 4• F right now and in the summer it gets hot and humid, and my favorite furnace is Amana which is a high end Goodman product like Daklan but Rheem and Ruud are a very close second, the 2 things I like best about Rheem and Ruud are that the evaporator coils are shorter so we can get them into basements that have lower head room like a lot of the older houses in the area, and I like the heat exchangers they are very durable 2nd only two Amana with their heat exchangers
Rheem also has the direct ignition which is unique. I don’t see it as a “majoring in the minors” as it’s a fairly nice long term reliable ignition source. The downside is most HVAC techs carry the red hot igniters and might not have the spark ignition on them if they get a “no heat” call.
I wanted to install a Rheem HVAC system in my home but my local supply house didn’t stock the 21” coil that I needed. I did get a good deal on the Goodman 16 SEER system with a matching GMVC furnace that I did install myself. I believe that the Rheem condensing units look great too. I like the Rheem furnaces but I hear the N coils are hard to clean so you better keep your filter changed. Rheem use to cost more than an equivalent Goodman system but pandemic prices have gone crazy so who knows what the prices are at now.
Going to have a Rheem furnace installed next week. I am able to run my own LP line from the tank to the crawlspace, can the HVAC guys take it from there?
I've been installing lennox for 36 years. At my house personally I have a 86 lennox system and a 2019 lennox system. When properly installed , my opinion its the best equipment there is.
I had an older Lennox system installed in 1993. It was a pretty good system but the installers failed to install a filter drier. I use to work for a Lennox dealer in the 80’s and the only thing that I noticed is that the condensing units would get leaks on the braze joints and the suction line copper failed on my own Lennox unit. My neighbor said it was Chinese copper. Nowadays, I hear people complaining about Lennox evaporator coil leaks. My Lennox coil never had any issues for 27 years but my neighbors had leaks in their Lennox coils.
Lennox units for the last 3 years are problomatic according to 3 companies that have dealt with them. One of the big box stores is still selling them and that is a red flag for me, installers can make all the differance however the quality of the buid itself has gone south.
The unit on my house hangs on a steel frame. It's on a sideof the house that's freq wet. I'm getting Heatpump this year & is that ok? Prev units on the ground other houses have had water flood area in spring plus hard to keep clear of weeds&leaves. Ruud is what I'm looking at in Missouri. TY!
Check your insulation in the ettic that could be your problem. I had that problem not enough insulation. I went with spray Foam on the Trusses problem Solved.
I put my Rheem furnace in when the building we owned was purchased by Walgreens after we remodeled it two years before. The furnace was two years old. Service One warantee that came with my home provided replacement for furnace and contractor installed new one when I was at work. Came home, saw the smallest bad joke I had played on me. Spoke with owner of HVAC company who installed it and here is where I made a mistake. He talked me into keeping it for a year instead of him replacing it then and there. He had an apartment furnace he had extra or some such and that's why he installed this tiny thing.. Then talked me into trying it for a year. After that, the building was sold and two new furnaces, two years new, we salvaged. One went to my dad's house, the other to mine. To replace that new apartment unit. Never wanted to trust that HVAC guy, again, so I didn't have to. Gave the new furnace to a friend for free. She owned a very small house,. Owned my home for nearly thirty years and counting. Still have the Rheem furnace I installed as mentioned. It's still heating my home. Changed circuit board, once. Changed inducer fan twice. Added humidifier from Menards first five years the Rheem was installed. Knew little about any of it. Humidifier sprayed a water mist above the A coil when the furnace turned on. Left some water seeping out on the floor. Menards must have realized their mistake in selling this. I realized my mistake in buying and using it. Replaced it with Aprilaire unit. Nothing improved the quality of the living area more than adding a humidifier when there was none, prior. Now, searching for high efficiency furnace in no hurry since all is working fine. But I can say this. My first choice of brands will be Rheem from the experience I have had and the reliability of a furnace that still works. When or if I remove it, I'll keep it and it will go into a detached garage I anticipate building one day next Spring. Started with Rheem by chance. Plan on staying with Rheem from experience. Don't know about the Fujitsu or whatever addition to their name. But doesn't matter. My dad replaced his Rheem less than ten years ago. Before he passed away. He was made of money compared to yours truly. So I don't recall why. Always loyal he was, but most often to the wrong people in my opinion. His new Goodman furnace was installed by a guy I went to school with from the church. Wouldn't trust him with a dollar. Only stops picking your pocket when it's his own money he's stealing. He failed to replace the humidifier in my dad's furnace. Bought him an Aprilaire and put it in for him rather than have people that treat me like garbage and I can't trust do it. Aprilaire I can't say all that much about. The plastic they used on my dehumidifier kept shattering. Until finally I had to replace it. Had major anxiety issues over nothing other than finding an HVAC guy in a field I don't consider customer friendly. I can fix anything and do. But for a while, can't find parts for anything HVAC because the suppliers refuse to sell them to anyone not a contractor or customer. That's a bad sign. A sign that the industry protects itself at the customer's expense. Bought the inducer fan locally. Cost me $300+. It was winter time, I worked lots of overtime as a mechanic for a meat packer, wasn't certain if it was fair, but the only game in town. Lasted a few years. Bearings started making lots of noise. I do industrial mechanical work as mentioned. Did, until I quit for good. Noisy bearings are a thing for me. Replaced them. Then it tanked altogether and I found new replacement on Ebay for under $100. That makes my point. Furnace works like a charm. Can't say the same for a lot of things. Equal to HVAC industry on my list of things most likely to get ripped off by, is appliance parts. Same outfit that sold me the inducer blower locally, sold me some appliance parts. Must be ten different low lifes that have their hands in my pocket when I try and buy local. I can see it clearly. This guy adds 50% to the price and offers it another guy who adds 50%. Another guy finds it and offers it with another 50%. Pretty soon, $10 poorly made refrigerator fan motor costs $97. They say take it or leave it. Thank God for Internet. I can leave it. Try and buy parts local, still, due to immediately having the part. No use. Same mindset of good old boys not willing to sell parts, advertise they do, but want to sell service. Tell you it's too complicated for you and they never met you. Most recently, inherited commercial property when my dad passed away. Right off the bat, a tenant calls and says they had HVAC company look at furnace. HVAC company claimed heat exchanger needed replaced. I spent decades in the trades. No lower form of life and no one more dishonest than union labor. Gangland union labor. They commit fraud like it's free. They have it in for me and thus me for them in response. Phone message says $2K replacement quote for heat exchanger. My dad died, he was murdered. And the predators couldn't come out of the woodwork fast enough. Knowing a little, myself, doing most of the building maintenance myself before my dad passed, went up on the roof doubting the heat exchanger needed replaced. Knowing that the local utility company had pulled a similar fast one on me at my home. Said my water shut off was defective and put a dig order in to replace it at my expense. There, too, I doubted it was true. They know no one can question them much. Contacted an attorney sending the dig order notice to him. The day he opened his mail, in a letter calling the union thugs liars and frauds, the utility maraculously returned and suddenly the valve operated. Union labor are pieces of shit. Caught one guy breaking into my home one afternoon. Just got out of shower,. Locked the front door before showering. Opened the bathroom door to move between bathroom and bedroom to get dressed. Heard door handle jiggle. Thought someone was at the door. Was just about to step in that direction to answer it, when the door slowly swung open. And John Niedzweicki showed his face. He and I staring at one another. No friend of mine, hadn't seen this POS for four years and didn't want to. He still had the plastic card in his hand he used to jimmy the lock. He sees me, acts friendly like we're still old buddies. He's a snake. Union carpenter then, union milwright, now. Just the kind of man McDonnell wants. Drug dealer, burglar, con artist, union thug. i just stare at him. Last time he saw me I was heavily armed guy. So is he. No response after pretending to be my buddy, caught red handed breaking and entering, and with me knowing what a low life Judas he is not needing another lesson, he says he's fixing my lock. Not even a good effort. Then runs away. That's typical union member activity in Omaha, Nebraska. Police are union, too. Thank you.
They all break. Install practices is key. Check for obvious rub out points on evap or condenser while installing. Pull a good vacuum. Make sure airflow is proper and your gonna be ahead of the game
I like this format, Josh. I'll be curious after you've done a bunch of these if you will look into adding another brand to your lineup. That is if you're allowed to do that without your current brand flipping out.
@@NewHVACGuide my company has done Ruud for the past 3 years I want to say. The only issues we’ve had out of them in 3 years is 2 defrost boards. We’ve had a few other issues but it’s mostly installation error, improperly supported exhaust on high efficiency furnace tripping a water sensor on the furnace, a few expansion valves from a big job we did but I came to the conclusion they failed due to the person who brazed the copper in. Most of the issues have been self inflicted issues, like I said the only 2 issues we have had in a little over 3 years is 2 defrost boards. We have done Bryant/Carrier/Goodman in the past. All of those had minimal issues on their ends as well. Bryant/Carrier for me is just unpleasant to work on, whether it being installing them or servicing them. Goodman’s I know get a bad rep, but I’ve not had many issues with those either the ones we have put in over the years, easy to work on. I’d say what pushed me away from them was learning more and gaining more knowledge and just feeling they skimp out on some aspects they shouldn’t if that makes sense
See this is why I don't trust these AC guys that I've called bc yes they only push certain brands or only one brand and they all have their own opinions but is that opinion based on the company that's giving them some kickback to exclusively sell that brand???
getting one installed next week 7500 and change. thats to drop the unit from the attic and put it in the garage " i dont use the garage as its only one car and i have a 3 car freestanding. i thought that was fair for all the work involved. not gonna lie its got me alittle nervous as i am a perfectionist
Im skeptical that they're gonna start using LG Compressors in some of the condenser models ("to keep up with Compressor demand").My whole HVAC department was like: uh. Wut mf? And the warranties are gonna be the same? HHMMMH. Great video! We deal Rheem, love that super easy take apart condenser design . Inverter tech and boards are very interesting to me but we're all still figuring those out for troubleshooting. Very extensive, wire tracing skills must be immaculate. 😅 Haven't had the chance to use the app with the new SEER equipment for service calls or inspections but very simple to use. Econet TESP at Tstat is almost always needed to be double checked by manual testing at furnace. But almost everything else is soooo niiice about Rheem comfort wise, convenience wise, and 90% tech friendly . Live in Colorado with very thin air, so the OFMs get Choked real quick, and leak oil. (Circuit board placement adds a few extra minutes to pulling blow. Super annoying )
Can you tell me whats wrong with York? I was looking at rheem prestige and York affinity. Rheem is sold out so I'm thinking of York. They're offering 10 years parts and labor.
I put in a 3 ton 17 SEER Ruud heat pump four years ago. Since then, the condenser unit has been replaced, the air handler control board and fan motor has been replaced, and now the evaporator coil is leaking. In essence, I have replaced the entire unit piece by piece. The main cause of all these failures was the horrendous initial installation. Their bad workmanship was the root cause of all of these problems. Nevertheless, I am sick of dealing with this Ruud system and I'm just going to replace it with a Trane unit.
I love Rheem equipment except their coil design (corner condensate) is a little wierd the newer condenser design is better than the older one. The gas furnaces are great.
They killed their classic design, having easy access to the compressor if you needed to check it. I wouldn't touch them, but they have a good reputation for furnaces. I get really sad though when I see any of those 10 SEER units they made from the 90s that last forever.
i have one that is 25 years old. it's been a work horse but unfortunately rust and corrosion has taken over to the point its just not worth trying to fix. it iced over on me last week and we all know what that means. the new system is going in next week. i went with a rheem 14.3 seer 2 speed i hope i didn't make a mistake but man things have gotten so expensive. i live in Florida, i know nothing these days will last 25 years so im banking that im on borrowed time after the 10 year warranty
I work for a carrier distributor. When you have certain contractors that do mechanical work to light commercial and residential there only 2 manufactures that can truly support those diverse products. From a 1000t chiller to a 80% furnace. This is fact not fiction is Carrier and Trane with the amount of support and manufacturing capability that you receive. But every contractors needs are also different.
yes but most hvac companies are smaller shops and do residential for the most part- a much bigger problem than the company is the install, and also duct work .
rheem in the late 80s and 90s were very good units. i think their still pretty good but the quality is not there any more and i feel that goes with any brand
Yeah all the big wigs got together and decided their was no profit in making equipment that lasted 25 years and now we are left with junk that makes it 3-5 years or maybe 10 years for compressors.
I would add that Rheem - Sure and Ruud are all the same. They still use Copper Coils they don't have issues with drain lines clogging with the white bacteria snot. Copper is a disinfect whereas aluminum doesn't.. Cooper is much better material. In my opinion aluminum is marketed as this revolutionary thing. Ita corporate giants selling a products for the same but they have reduced the manufacturing. Ultimately it's not as a good good copper Coil. I dont belive that the masses are changing all aluminum because it's better for the consumer. It's cheaper from to make. That's the bottom line.
Unfortunately, RHEEM as fallen to the bottom. Both of my RHEEM compressors broke in under 3.5yrs and I had installation inspected by RHEEM specialists since about 80% of AC failures are results of improper installation. This us not the case. It's just extremely poor product, in fact, there was a RHEEM class action lawsuit around 2014.
I can't stand those plated rheem coils. The ones that in order to clean or check for dirt need pulled all the way out of the case. It's a horrible design but for some reason rheem stuck with it.
All new systems are crappy now. Rheem back in a day made bulletproof units. But now all systems are built cheap. Metal is not as strong as it used to be. But it’s a new age that we live in though
True… my unit is on it last leg. But it’s pushing 40… I am so worried about buying a new one. I have no clue as to what is a well built brand these days
@@jackson12802 Rheem , Carrier is ok as long you don’t go high efficiency. 15-16 SEER I would recommend. I personally am not big fan of Trane now. Definitely stay away from Goodman products. These new high efficiency u it’s are great and sound well on a paper and some will work well for some years. But as they age repairs and diagnostics can be a pain and sometimes people end up waiting on parts for weeks or even month or so. I am in the HVAC field myself and could install anything I wanted to when I installed new unit in my own house. I chose 16 SEER Carrier heat pump unit. Not complicated and easy to fix if something goes wrong with it. Companies will talk many people into high efficiency systems ,but for that it will have to be installed correctly and you will need PROPER DUCTWORK if you wanna get efficiency that they are selling.
My unit got hit by lighting and now its done, its an 4ton r22 unit high eff from late 90s early 2000 In the market for one but not sure which brand this is fustrating

Armstrong Air has been WONDERFUL for us, mostly because of the exclusive dealer program that helps promote the inverter equipment. 10/10

TY!
Does it work better in heat mode with the N coil?
Best HVAC channel!
Wow. Thank you!
My new rheem can’t cool my house below 76 degrees. Is there a break in period?
Check your insulation in the ettic that could be your problem. I had that problem not enough insulation. I went with spray Foam on the Trusses problem Solved.
Could be under sized or improperly charged .
Anyone know when Rheem is coming out with R454b units?
So I heard Fujitzu and Rheem are the same. Fujitzu builts mini splits for Rheem and Rheem builds central systems for Fujitzu. True?
I own 2 gas rheem. What rheem model would you recommend
I’ve tried for months. Finding hvac guys willing to share what they like has been tough.
Rheem/Rudd make great furnaces. Heat pumps are ok.
I had a new 3-ton heat pump installed so far no complaints but the price out of this world nine grand
Just had a 3 ton 14 seer Heat pump split system installed 6500 bucks. I'm happy.
getting one installed next week 7500 and change. thats to drop the unit from the attic and put it in the garage " i dont use the garage as its only one car and i have a 3 car freestanding. i thought that was fair for all the work involved. not gonna lie its got me alittle nervous as i am a perfectionist
It’s hard to clean an n coil without taking it out
To me Ruud is a rheem with full package. They have low and high pressure switches.
Do you have an email that I can ask you a specific question on furnaces?
Hello Anyone know when Rheem is coming out with R454b units?
Heard anything about R454b arrival time?
30 years doing this. I’m a rheem guy
You Rheem guys... haha 🙂
Join us on Tuesday for our live show!

Thanks for this.
My pleasure!
I sell Rheem for my business, and I love it. Sell anything but York
I just had a York unit replaced that ran 18 years no repairs at all
@@Sandwichking-hikes well that was a 🦄. Lol
Can you tell me whats wrong with York? I was looking at rheem prestige and York affinity. Rheem is sold out so I'm thinking of York. They're offering 10 years parts and labor.
@@michaelp9238 they have a certain type of coil that tend to leak sooner than most other coils.
My experience with Rheem has been terrible over the 10 years I've owned it. 3 failed evaporator coils so far...
There’s currently a class action lawsuit against them bc of those coils!…im passing on them
I love Rheem equipment except their coil design (corner condensate) is a little wierd the newer condenser design is better than the older one. The gas furnaces are great.
What our your brands that you sell ?
Griffin Air is a Daikin comfort pro dealer
Yeah, not worth fixing that with r22. And you probably need a rebuilt platform.
I personally don't take anything a guy with less than 5 years experience in the field has to say with a grain of salt.
Macejkovic Lodge
Love Rheem, Ruud, but the claim of Scroll compressor; almost all companies use the Scroll compressor.
A lot do for sure
rheem in the late 80s and 90s were very good units. i think their still pretty good but the quality is not there any more and i feel that goes with any brand
Yep
Yeah all the big wigs got together and decided their was no profit in making equipment that lasted 25 years and now we are left with junk that makes it 3-5 years or maybe 10 years for compressors.
Aren’t they made in China?
Texhoman here love rheem
base pan ? why not just elevate it on footers ....
Don’t think that is allowed in Florida. Never seen that here. Unit has to be bolted to the concrete pad at 4 points.
First 3 minutes didn't tell me jack $hit.
I have. RP16 heat pump and the high pressure switch is a terrible design. Rheems fix is a zip tie
Interesting. Do you install Rheem?
Hi when is Rheem coming out with R454b units?
@jackson12802 Hi when is Rheem coming out with R454b units?
My unit got hit by lighting and now its done, its an 4ton r22 unit high eff from late 90s early 2000
In the market for one but not sure which brand this is fustrating
