I have a 1978 house with the original electric air handler and a Frigidaire AC condenser. I requested quotes from 6 contractors and received five including Carrier, Bryant, American Standard, Goodman and Daikin. I chose the Daikin Fit. It wasn’t the least or most costly but will provide the best value in my opinion. Really looking forward to the upgrade.

Had a new home built & they installed a Goodman compressor unit. Within months it was making a racket & they replaced the compressor & not the unit. I like your channel, very good info, but getting tired of you saying I won’t name that company. If your channel is a guide, then you need to point out companies & system that are faulty & poorly made in both warranties, service & quality!

I own a HVAC company in Louisiana and I made a comment about Generac "Why are you continuing to advertise whole home Generators as if they were available after Hurricane Ida even though the lead time is 12 months" This is almost verbatim what I posted. The comment was deleted and flagged as violating community standards and "if I did it again my account would be suspended" He may not get sued but the deep pockets can deplatform him.

I install most brands. And I don’t get many call backs, my call backs were mechanical issues. The issues were leaking pro press fittings. I install Bosch and I don’t have any call backs, but one I had a bad unit out of the box. Now I don’t think the customer should have to deal with a defective product out of the box. Now I have an unconditional warranty, I actually had 2 defective units out of the box in the same week. The second one was a 18k Daikin cooling only. We were working with tech support for 4 days and still broken. Solution I ripped out the Daikin and put in another brand at my loss. The Daikin is sitting in my driveway. I have not gotten refunded on the Daikin. And I still have a broken Bosch. I’m really starting to get fed up with the hvac trade.
I’ve never even turned in a warranty part, I just replace it out of my pocket.

Great choice! I have a Goodman unit as well….I’ve used the same AC Company for 22 years…when I needed a new unit 14 years ago they recommended Goodman…it came in far less expensive and had a better standard warranty. I’ve never had any major issues with it and it runs nonstop here in Florida. I get it maintained twice a year - spring and fall - for about 80 bucks and I can always rely on it. I recently asked if it’s getting time to consider replacing it due to the age and my AC Guy said he thinks I’ll get another five years out of it. I’ll definitely replace with another Goodman when it’s time.

I had Amana installed in my old house 10-12 years ago. Helluva a system. I had only one problem in 10 years, the coil froze over. I forget the reason why that happened, but it was fixed the next day. Never had another issue with that system. Back then it was reasonably priced, but now people have caught on to how good they are and now contractors want premium money to install one.

The Aprilaire is at the bottom of the air handler with about 4-5” of ductwork touching the the ground before it enters the Aprilaire 4 “ purifier. Will the horizontally installed Aprilaire have the proper flow ? Seems like I’ve only seen vertical air purifiers? Obviously just thinking the air has to turn 90 degrees and go up through the purifier. Is this fairly common? Obviously I’m not an hvac guy.

The condenser outside was equally quiet. I could hear nothing unless I was standing directly in front of it. I had 7 contractors quote installation of a ducted HVAC system in our 1908 3800 sqft home. My approach was what you suggest here often, find the company I like and not the brand. Of the companies I reached out to, about half of them seemed to have no preference for brand, technology, sizing in some cases - which was really off-putting. It seemed like they were just fishing to find what I wanted, whereas I asked every company to propose what they thought was the right system. Eventually I landed with a contractor who spec'd a dual fuel system from Amana. At the time I knew nothing about the brand but in getting quotes from big and small companies all local to the area, the Amana was the best value/efficiency compared to the alternatives. Most importantly, my contractor was able to speak to why they like the Amana brand and laid out the pros and cons of spending money on various components of the system. In the end, the system they originally quoted was unchanged when we signed a contract with them because they clearly have worked in homes like ours and with Amana before. That's what drove me to go with them, they drink the [insert whatever brand name] coolaid.

Smart man! I have been using my AC guys for 22 years…they are simply the best and my loyalty has paid off because whenever I have an issue - even if not an emergency - they send my guy to me right away, He knows me…my system…and they have never taken advantage of me by doing unnecessary repairs. 14 years ago when my original Carrier system finally died after many years of service in the Florida heat they recommended Goodman. It was affordable and has performed beautifully. I have Price come to my house spring and fall for scheduled maintenance and it never lets me down. I asked him recently during the spring visit if I need to start considering replacing it due to age (14 years) and he said he expects I’ll get at least another five years out of it. THAT is a Contractor I trust…. This is why they’ve earned my loyalty…they treat me right and recommend quality equipment that works with my budget that has a great standard warranty.

Though the brand name Daikin is catching up in the USA, the fact is in the rest of the planet it's at the top along with Mitsubishi. Daikin is the biggest HVAC manufacturing company on the planet. Well known in the rest of the world for top notch quality of their products and a pioneer of many HVAC related technology innovations.
I have a Daikin fit system in my house, but I found out that many of the so called Daikin comfort pros out there discourage customers from installing inverter systems like the Daikin fit and that's because they don't know how to install it right, and never admit it. Daikin should weed them out of their ecosystem coz it degrades their name. Anyways, I finally found one , they did a great job, the system works great, my electric bill dropped by 60% and I couldn't be happier.

@@jacobcyriac432 Thank you. I have 2 local contractors telling me they won't install without a backup heater and that it's necessary for when it gets cold and if the heat pump freezes up and stops working. My thinking is, if heat pumps were so unreliable as to require a separate ,heating system, why would they exist for heating at all...? No one installs extra back up electrical baseboard heat when they have an oil, propane, or natural gas furnace. They are recitals enough so that there's not much risk of breakdown. I'm in Nova Scotia... We used to get, and still sometimes we do but much more infrequently, temperatures down to minus 20 and below, but the coldest here in the last 18 years was 2 nights down to minus 27. Will a daikin or Mitsubishi 2.5 tonne machine require a 9kw or even 12kw electric backup coil heater added to the hot air plenum...?

    • @jacobcyriac432

I think the most reliable way to provide heat would be using a heat pump till the temperature drops to about 35-40f, and below that with a natural gas furnace( dual fuel system). The Daikin one thermostat can be configured to do that, if required. My suggestion is , you contact Josh from Griffin air, for the best advice regarding the finer details of your project I did and I'm glad I did.

Hi, Joshua Griffin this is Jermey McGuire. I previously had a 15 year old Lennox XC16 5 ton air conditioner from 2009. That prevents cooled upstairs and I had a Goodman 4 ton air conditioner from 2018 that previously cooled downstairs.” The Lennox air conditioner was matched with a Lennox gas furnace, and the downstairs Goodman air conditioner had a Lennox electric heat/air conditioner. The upstairs furnace was completely gone, it was rusted out the heat didn’t work. The upstairs wouldn’t cool under 80 for the past 2 summers, and the downstairs air conditioner didn’t cool well. I got those old air conditioners replaced 5 days ago with a 3.5 ton downstairs and a 5 ton air conditioner upstairs the upstairs Goodman air conditioner is matched with a gas furnace, the downstairs air conditioner is matched with electric furnace/air conditioning.”
My upstairs Goodman air conditioner is keeping me cool and comfortable upstairs. My upstairs Goodman air conditioner is on right now, it feels so good upstairs!l here in south Texas!!

Did you look at the Napoleon furnaces at the show? They really appear to be a step up but we have no local supplier in PA. Boiler tech seems to have reached its climax with everyone favoring negative pressure gas valves and stainless fire tube exchangers. Weil Mclain has really stepped it up with their new Eco units and Bradford with their f2 units. So many people from over seas looking for distributors, several who are willing to sell direct. Air to water monoblock heat pumps, I saw at least 7. I think one of the problems that you dont see more inverters for split systems is they require a rotary compressor. They spent the last 35 years tooling up and perfecting the scroll and they just don't work on variable speed. Small rotaries were always used on refrigerators but now we are looking at 5 ton rotaries. It only took a few years for the entire ductless industry to go inverter but it seems to be taking quite a bit longer with split units. My guess would be compressor availability.

The issue is developers they drive the market I live in the suburbs in Southern California I moved into this area 25 yrs ago when this community was just starting to be developed form cow farms . The developers we’re putting in equipment that they got a a big discount as they we’re buying 5k units when buying my home I just didn’t know or heard of the company so I elected to go with the brand from work in this case was Rheem this was not what was being offered at time of purchasing my home I found a contractor that installed Rheem they put in a RHEEM CLASIC I’ve only had it serviced once in the last 25 yrs but the units that were installed around the community have failed yrs ago , but the surrounding New HVAC companies started up and serviced this brand . I’m watching this video as my AC is showing signs it needs replacing ( I call it the compressor death rattle ) it’s an old freon unit .
But with only 1 service in its 25 yrs life I think I’ll replace it with the same brand. And not with what the contractors are pushing .

Located just outside of Northwest Houston, Texas, the "DAIKIN WALLER TEXAS TECHNOLOGY PARK" allows Daikin to consolidate manufacturing, engineering, logistics, marketing and sales for Goodman®, Amana® and Daikin brand unitary heating and air conditioning products in one location. Regardless of this, I greatly prefer TRANE over all of the other brands - especially for their 2-stage "bullet proof" heat pumps with Climatuff Scroll Compressors. TRANE'S Patented Spine-fin Condenser coils "dwarf" the competition in "size" and "bulk-weight" and therefore the ability to "cool" more efficiently throughout a 100 degree "hot" summer in places like Houston, Texas.

It is nice to know that Mitsubishi is also one of the top 3. Josh, have you heard any more on who may acquire Fujitsu ?
In my case, I went with Mitsubishi vs. Carrier which was suggested by 3 local HVAC businesses, yes, it cost somewhat more, but has a 12 year parts / compressor warranty and a 5 year labor by my HVAC installers.
So far, the system here is a 30k btu ODU with 3 iSee air handlers. Running 1.5 years and still working wonderfully and as expected by the specification here in the NE.
TODAY, an additional single 12k btu split system will be commissioned where I wanted to have heat added on the first floor of my home.
I did received bids from a couple local businesses for this addition, and ended up staying on with the same company that installed the first system the end of 2021.

No unfortunately you chose a good brand for Denver or Salt Lake City-good price, efficient esp at heating small, thermostats agnostic, etc, good support for dealers. BUT can’t handle much humidity -it’s a design issue. If you want to really handle humidity you need a true fully variable communicating system, one that has a smaller sensible/latent heat removal ratio. The best are carrier green speed, esp with preheat enabled, and daikin if you want to handle lots of humidity. Esp in trunk season….You can’t be all things to all people. Bosch esp the yeh 2.0 is a great great unit for a dry cold climate, but a very poor choice for say ATLAnta. NB Bosch is made in China.Medea, da
