Oh and I still use the lemon in the cachaça, I actually still have the jar from my Mom😊😢 I love keeping our Portuguese traditions going 😊👍🏼🇵🇹

I honestly think that it makes a difference in the final product. I will be making sweet bread this week but only half of what you make. I keep one loaf for us and give the rest away. My recipe is pretty much the same as yours except I do not use lemon. My mom never used it. I proof mine in the electric oven. I turn on the light and it warms it up slightly.

Great recipe. I have been wanting to make sweetbread for so long. Use to get it from Cornerstone Bakery in Fall River MA. Now that I moved I can't find good sweatbread and to have it shipped costs a fortune. I attempted one recipe and totally left out the sugar. What a disaster. All those ingredients. I will try again, will not give up. Could you tell me where you got your pans? I have smaller cake pans and I don't think they will work. Thanks
Hi Angela I made the Massa but first I would like to share my experience with everyone I went to the store to purchase the five roses flour but I went to Walmart they didn’t have it was poring rain I didn’t feel like driving to the other stores so came home use the flour I had which was Robin Hood flour I googled the conversion in to cups well instead of pounds I did kilograms therefore the conversion was 40 cups of flour as I was mixing the flour with the wet ingredients my husband walks in and ask me what r you making I said I’m trying to bake some Massa but I’m having a problem Angela didn’t have this problem she did with one hand well he looks at the recipe and said Wanda it’s not klg it’s pounds I was ready to throw everything out but he said Wanda just add more wet ingredients & yeast we did it came out pretty good I shared with my daughter her in-laws my nineteen year old grandson took one to share with friends my Canadians neighbors loved it !!! Now have a good laugh everyone 😊 thanks again Angela for you delicious recipes ❤️
OMG Wanda I am sorry you had to experience this mishap. It happens to all of us. I am glad you listen to your husband but that how we learn from ours mistakes. 40 cups is about 10 lbs of flour if you double everything you would been fine. Now you know you can handle a big batch. I tried different flours and I came to conclusion it made no difference. I would use a bread flour instead of just all purpose flour. Thank you for watching my videos.
@kathycadile6421 did you put the right amount of sugar if it has to much sugar it weight down on the doughy and it won’t rise. I have had that happen to me too. Just don’t give up keep trying with different flours.
@kathycadile6421 also keep the dough in warm place and leave it longer to rise. If it is cold it takes double the amount of time. I remember my mom putting the dough at the end of her bed because it was to cold.

For about 1:15 hour .
I bake mine at 375 because my oven is very old and not regulated.

I have use any kind of flour and had results with any of them. But King Arthur is what I would recommend because we do have it around here.

Will cutting the recipe in half be okay. I just made a different recipe and my dough didn't rise. Yeast was bubbly so I don't know what happened.
Make sure the yeast is good. Also don’t use hot milk it will kill the yeast.
My yeast was fine. It was bubbly and I used warm milk.@@angelacastro-theolivebranch
