Pathrode is a favorite dish of many. This is a special seasonal food of tulunadu. It is a believe that Colocasia leaves should be intaken in any form, during the month of july-august (Ati). Today I present about the preparation of pathrode, according to the request of many of you. Very simple recipe and required ingredients also less. Spices required are dhania, red chillies, methi seeds and turmeric powder.
Ingredients:-
Soaked Brown rice 1kg
Dry red chilli 8
Coriender seeds 4sp
Tamarind 1 lemon size,
Turmeric powder 1sp
Methi seeds 1/2sp
Salt to taste
Calocasia leaves
Coconut oil 5sp
For Upkari :-
Coconut oil 5-6sp
Mustard seeds 1sp
Dry red chilli 4 sp
Urad dal 1sp
Jaggery 3pieces (for taste)
Greated coconut 1cup
Curry leaves

Hello Mr.Sudarshan, I made this today. It was too good. I made the masala in the same way, but did not add the chopped leaves. I smeared the masala on the whole leaf after destemming, and topped with another leaf. Rolled with the masala in between the leaves. Finally, steamed the rolled, uncut pathrode for one hour. Shallow fried with only coconut oil and grated coconut after cutting the pathrode in disc shape. Pathrode is the most delicious and healthy snack ever; I ate it fter 3 years. Thanks to the way you explained each and every step of the recipe.

Yummy pathrade... We do it a bit differently.. We spread the paste on the back of the leaf and line it one above other... Paste is rice+hing+red chilly +tamarind or moong instead of rice... I do it more and keep it in the fridge and eat it over couple of days... I did not like it much when i was younger.. Now its a feast... Will try this style 👍

😛 Super. Amma makes it in Idli paatre. Amma says Marakesuvu is best for Patrode because it doesn't have that itching effect like other kesuvina soppu.
I know 4 types in that and all 4 type leaves has different tastes, but Marakesu is not so tasty when compared to rest

Raw masala has got very good aroma than roasted one

We dont chop the leaves. We do prepare masala batter and spread it on the leaves each layer by layer, then it is steamed and eat as it is or make small PCs and add oggarane and est

After making patrode as you mentioned we can also make one more dish. Once cooled, we cut those patrodes to slices and dip into same type of batter (a little thin in texture) and keep in one adjacent to the other upon a Dosa- tawa to make them as a Roti and fry then well. Tastes good

We make rolls of pathorde leaves after applying ground paste. And even when we make with chopped leaves we make roll by binding with fingers and steam them. Cut and shallow fry in oil
