Dark Souls Great Grey Wolf Sif piano arrangement (with Sheet music)

- This is one of my older arrangements (2 years old), it doesn't do very interesting things with the source since the main goal was to leave the voicing of the source intact as much as possible, which actually was often impossible due to it's orchestration. If it was not possible the voicing was adjusted to express the original feeling as good as possible while still being playable on a piano (with hands that can reach a 10th).

(all my arrangements will be found there)
I left out dynamic signs and pedal markings because there are so many possibilities to play this. It's actually impossible to play without pedal at certain points, but I think it's best if you think about how exactly you want to "solve" these parts, instead of getting my interpretation forcefed.
Here's another interpretation of this arrangement by 'TheAngryGrassPerson':
• Dark Souls - Great Gre...
About the recording: grand piano ( Bechstein Studio 189 (not sure about the number)) in my old school, recorded with 4 microfones (1 rode nt5, 1 SE electronics X1 close and tascam dr-40 internal mics for the room)
The piano: I don't particularly like it's playability (playing pianissimo is like playing russian roulette with mental breakdowns in every 2nd chamber), but I've never recorded a grand before (and I did already record my piano at home)
and it does sound pretty good recorded.
So I thought I'd give it a try, and it was actually pretty interesting (mic types/positions etc.) and fun.
I probably did some obvious recording (as well as playing) mistakes but the main point for me was figuring out (parts about) how to record a grand (and be the recorded player), and I learnt a lot by doing this.
(sorry about the shitty camera angle though :/ should have looked at an example vido instead of pointing it and recording straight away) Souls piano collection community project:

the music also feel like there's no way things could have been different.. beautiful indeed, but so sad..
Try composure, but be wary of sadness....
T.T
sad backstory boss theme+piano = prepare to cry
at first i was attacking with all my might, but then i saw him at low hp, almost shed a tear
I was devastated from the beginning since I played the DLC first. The intro cutscene to Sif's boss fight changes if you rescue him/her from the Abyss before it.
Sif is definitely the hardest boss in the entire Souls series.
I mean, how the hell are you supposed to see through all the tears?
Had us in the first half, not gonna lie.

Omg i actually like this version more than the original !!!
thank you!
You captured both beautiful and dark elements of this. Fantastic
Thanks! Well, Motoi Sakuraba did an incredible job composing the piece like this (it suits the character), so I'm glad I managed to convey these feelings.
and now, i want to cry even more. WHERE ARE MY TISSUES!!! ;_;
Which ones ÷|
It's just a wonderful, enchanting, but at the same time very gently.
+AlexACrouse Thank you!
oh sif poor sif
It feels so dark and emotional at the same time, you really did a good job.
Thank you! I'm glad I managed to convey this feeling.
Sadness ahead therefore tears
i think i just had to cry
Thank you! (or sorry maybe? ^^). Dat Sif cutscene... :(
DrJekyll MrHeil
Yes, especially the "extended" one that you get after freeing his former self in the Abyss and fighting Manus with him!
Also thank you very much for the Arrangement!
Mantis Yes, that's the one I meant^^. You're welcome, if you're interested in other Dark souls piano sheet music you might want to come back to my channel until the release of DS2 (or just subscribe), there will be more, and it will be a lot harder!^^
That heart breaking limping........one more empty defeat. This so beautifully describes the warring emotions. Thank you.
Incredible, really appreciated this and the piano arrangements in dark souls.
Thank you! Also, there are a lot of new Souls arrangements coming up in the (very) near future
Fantastic work, very impressive interpretation and dynamic use. 10/10!
Thank you!
I especially appreciate compliments on specific things I was focusing on when recording/arranging.
I absolutely love all of your arrangements, you're so good! I look up to you in terms of playing the piano and I hope I can get at least partly as good as you :D Playing for 12 years now, but I lack patience, what a shame xD
I definately wasn't the type to practice dilligently most of the time either, so you're in luck;
Everything I can play isn't actually that hard. ^^
Really nice arrangement. Thank you! I love your work :D I really appreciate it.
+Ock Clock Thanks, Glad you like it!
It is sooo beautiful!
I was fortunate that the Sif Inmy game never backed down all the way until it's hp was gone. I never got the wounded animation and the battle was a glorious one.
nice arrangement,sounds amazing
This is deep man appreciate
Always makes me wish there was a way to get Sif to just give you the ring instead..
Your interpretation is fucking amazing. You're a true artist, man. Getting some real 19th century vibes from this, man. On my 20th or something listen, lol
+Regurgitated Text Thank you! Glad you like the whole deal^^
(Arrangement + Interpretation + Recording (?))
You're very talented
"Be wary of tears"

Brilliant... just-... brilliant. :'3
+C.G. the Jealous Thanks!^^
**sigh...** A whole year later, and I still put this video on loop while I study. ^_^
What can I say? It's just so relaxing, despite the Sif feels.
Oh, Sif. There you are...
this is good, you should see the guitar arrangement.
Goodnight Pupperino
The only fight in a game to make me rethink what I was doing.
Boy does this fight always make me feel like a dick
Hm, personally, I thought "WTF am I doing?" while fighting the slamdunk-duo, but the tone was slightly different....^^
Ok maybe the song is beautiful but free sheet music is magestic
Wow ,👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍
How did you play this by yourself The one I found was a duet I can play the opening but nothing else by myself
Why im crying?
When you realize that the beginning of this song also plays in the intro of Ludwig the holy blade phase 2
Well, it's the other way around, but yeah.
I don't blame Motoi Sakuraba though, the tragic feeling fits both pieces perfectly.
DrJekyll MrHeil it really does. A faithful companion defending his masters grave and a hero who became what he hated the most.
rip
Bark Souls: Prepare to cry like a fucking bitch edition
Hey I'm in a piano 1 class in college, I've had some prior experience with the piano before the other students so yea... anyways I'm looking for a nice simple music like this, I'm wondering if you know if there's an easier version? So far, your's the best in the simplicity of the music sheet.
I'm planning to play this for my finals, I think that would be plenty of time (2-3 months) to learn the notes and play it correctly and smoothly don't you think? Thx in advance Mr Heil
Play this music* I'd go for Gwyn's theme but... gosh. My experience isn't that high.
TheDefinedGamer This is hard for me to decide because I judge whether someone should try something or not by a) how long they've been playing b) what they have played before (or the hardest piece and the time it required), and c) the average daily practice time. In your case I don't know any of those, so yeah.
In general though, if the sheet music looks hard to you without trying it (assuming you have't been playing piano for at least, let's say, 2 years) I wouldn't practice it for an exam. There are some parts that aren't easy to reach, there's a lot of holding chords while reusing the sustain pedal, so you can't play the chord and immediately jump to the next, etc.
Usually I'd say just go for it, playing pieces that are (a bit) 'too hard' is very motivating, but for an exam, and with this piece, I wouldn't recommend it. (depends on your 'prior experience' though)
any other music you'd recommend for a beginner with similar dark-ish theme like this?
I'm still tempted to try, slow-pace but eventually muscle memory will kick in. If not for an exam, just for experience and self performance.
TheDefinedGamer As I said, in general, go for it, but for an exam, I wouldn't recommend it.
Depending on your definition of 'dark':
Grey Clouds by Liszt (unnerving-dark),
Moonlight Sonata 1st mov. by Beethoven (sorrowful-dark),
Prelude in e minor by Chopin (sorrowful-dark),
but my personal favourite, because everyone and their mom plays the 1st mov. from the moonlight sonata, would be: Chaos Temple from Final Fantasy 1, the Fantasy Reborn(/Michael Huang) arrangement (youtube/google it). It also tailors best to your name^^
ty for the recommendation! :D
@Thx1765
Do you mean my arrangement? (the one I put in the description)
If so, I play it exactly like that. So if you're not sure how to play certain parts you can look at the video and see how I did it.
Ah I wasn't aware that this was a different arrangement I guess that why it looks easier than the duet
Oh sorry it kept telling me it didn't reply lol
np^^
I cri everytim
I too with your spelling lol

What's making me cry more? The music or thinking back to being forced to kill Sif
just a loyal pupper is all
this song really was sad and so was Sif's dead :( poor Sif
Sleep well, little pupper...

please teach me how to play piano this good!
Any half-decent teacher should be able to do this...and they won't give you a lot of questionable advice along the way. ^^
(Thanks for the compliment though ^^ )
"Imminent tears"
0:13-0:15 Sounds like part of Attack on Titan ost, I don't remember which one but I am sure i heard this part in AoT

Press f to pet pupper
:'(
This brings a lots of memories... like when I encountered him for the first time and lost 20k souls😭 😭 😭
Dark souls is better than bloodborne :)
***** Can't really comment on that, as I haven't played Bloodborne even once.
+david08123 Im not so sure about that, dark souls had for sure better bosses, music and NPC... bloodborne has better game-play and terrifying lore touch to it.
+PsyGnosiS Yeah that's true. I feel like I was into dark souls more than bloodborne though. Knight Artorias and Sif alone were awesome ;)
+PsyGnosiS Dark Souls music was nothing compared to bloodborne... Bloodborne is a real orchestra, Ludwig and Maria's music are great examples.
+King Meruem Dark Souls 1 soundtrack had a real orchestra too, and I'm willing to bet money that people remember more melodies from Dark Souls than from Bloodborne. (Given they have played both).
Bloodbornes original soundtrack is too dissonant, which they thankfully didn't repeat for the DLC themes.
(Also the quality of the sound doesn't change anything about the quality of the pieces themselves. There's an important difference there.)
(hint: compare the number of arrangements I did for Bloodborne and for Dark Souls)
WHY U HAVE TO MAKE DOGGO DIE A SAD DEATH AND DRAMATIC MUSIC btw this is good music but im sad now
Can I get an F in the chat for 🅱️ig doggo
*Sadness ahead.*
*Try Crying*
Sift. :(
Try 0.75
Is this fake?
why would it be fake?
Its fake?
This all would be a whole lot easier if you provided any explanation whatsoever on why you think it's fake.
impossible he can do that
You clearly haven't seen piano pieces that are actually technically difficult.
Have a look at this:
ua-cam.com/video/FDJ2vCPWA84/v-deo.html
See here's the problem, don't try to arrange it, when the original is already perfect
