This is musical impressionism. Debussy was a big if not the bigger exponent of this movement in music, almost all of his pieces are "paintings" with notes. It's personally my favourite era of music followed by romanticism.
Ps. I highly recommend you to check out "La Cathédrale Engloutie" if you haven't already. He paints a beautiful sight on aquatic sounds on that particular piece.

My friend and I was talking about this song since the start of quarantine in Malaysia (18/3/2020). This is his favourite song because this song gave him the courage to actually learn up other songs and to push his standard in playing the piano and sight reading. He had asked me for guidance in this beautiful piece of romantic period classical piece and hes still in the process of learning the dark and strong Eb minor part. He had asked me to teach him piano but i told him i didnt have the standard to teach him but i told him that i can guide you in your favourite song. He chose this song and it has been my daily practicing song as well. This video almost made me cry just by how nice it sounded and I just woke up from my sleep (its 10:31am in Penang, Malaysia). I saw this when I switch on my phone and this video was on my recommendations and I just click on it. I didnt regret clicking on it. Its super nice and I believe you've made someone else's day. Great job and thank you sir❤️❤️!!

My grandpa died a couple years ago and when I was driving with my brother and now sister-in-law from the church where we held the funeral to the burial site, this song started playing in the car. When I heard it, I knew it sounded pretty, but it was so much more than that. This song really sparked something inside of me, so with my grandma’s help (who’s married to the grandparent that died), I learned Clair de Lune. What I came to realize is that the song is, in a way, representative of a lifetime, whereas in the birth of the song there are simple, fundamental chords that lay out the trajectory for the rest of the song. Then the song goes through puberty and flowers into a fulfillment of its true potential with beautiful and complex chord progressions. The song then nears its end as it grows old and reflects on life, where it combines the original chords from the beginning of the song with some chord progressions underneath. Then, the song goes through a little more reflection and dies. What’s interesting is that I always thought that death was a terrible, morbid thing, yet in this song death is presumably bright and happy. I found that the reason death is actually portrayed as such a beautiful thing in this song is because without death we’d always have tomorrow to do what’s important, to grow out relationships, to involve ourselves in a rich and meaningful life. But someday there won’t be a tomorrow, so we need to do what’s important now. I finally found peace in the eternal rest of my grandfather, for, just as the light of the moon is the greatness that can be found in the death of the day, all of the great things I can love about not only my grandpa but all of this universe is found through the inevitable end to our lives. Thanks, Debussy, for showing me that death is just as necessary as it is beautiful.

You can always dress up and have a mini concert at home!

    Imagine this,
a small bus stop, youre waiting for your bus home after being laid off, all you hear is the pitter patter of raindrops hitting your small umbrella.
You reminisce on your day, how awful it had been, but when you reminisce it doesn't feel bad, you don't feel guilty or worry. You don't even feel happiness or joy, all you feel is calmness, stillness in the rain, with no one around to look or talk to.
But as you grow bored waiting, there are puddles just calling to you, you want to jump in. So you do. You laugh and play and then realize it was childish, but you don't care, no one is around after all, so you keep hopping around and playing, which you haven't done in a very long time, your bus arrives.
You greet the driver and he greets you, you take your seat and look outside the foggy window and see the rain again, the drops flowing down upon the glass.
The rain isn't gloomy or sad, but not completely delightful either. You think even more about what had happened just then, as you stood around in rain, hopped through puddles like a child, you forgot you were laid off, the calm rain made the world go still.
For once, you were truly alone, truly at peace, truly a child again. But now you are going home, you aren't sad that it was over, just happy that it happened.

Muscle memory is a strange and wondrous thing. Most of the pieces I've memorized, I did so by playing over and over until one day I discovered I didn't need sheet music for them anymore (as opposed to sitting down and saying, "I am going to commit this piece to memory"). If your muscle memory of the song is good enough, playing with eyes closed enhances the experience and sometimes allows for more expressiveness while playing. Unless you hit a wrong note. Then the spell is broken. 😜

At one part I started seeing myself walking the beach alone, just palms, water, sand, blue sky and me. My eyes started watering and I don't know to describe my feelings, happiness or sadness don't know which one is it but it surely felt beautiful.. Everything just stopped for these five minutes and I realized I have to take my time and enjoy things I love.

@@shines1397 when people go through royal conservatory training they're usually told to differentiate musical eras, baroque, classical, romantic, modern, etc. I think he was just trying to politely inform you of the fact that it's a romantic piece, so there's no need to be rude

MCVictorious actually, "classical" is mainly the widespread term for pretty much all pre-20th century composition, despite being a specific era itself. "classical" can describe music from renaissance to romantic. pleases educate yourself before spewing out big words to make someone feel stupid online!
p.s. hope this pandemic spares you and your father :)

Man, I have tried teaching myself Clair de Lune for about a year now. The slow parts are working out just fine, but the arpeggiated parts are a disaster...guess my left hand is just too dumb. Anyway, thanks for that beautiful rendition. Big fan of your channel!
Edit: thank you for all the kind words. Thing is, I am currently preparing to start studying conducting, for which I need a buttload of piano and to be able to read full scores and sightread them is getting me to my limits. Might have panicked a little.
