    So with a really little delay (like, only a whole week, but let’s ignore that,) I have my Nameless Song arrangement done. This has been by far the most taxing arrangement I’ve ever done.
    I lost count of how many times I thought I’m done with it and start the MIDI-edit just to go back again with a new idea.
    I really really REALLY didn’t want to end up with a subpar arrangement for one of my favourite pieces from both the composer and the Souls series, just because I was too frustrated and rushed things, so I hope your wait and my work paid off.
    Also I was tied-to-the-bed sick for a few days, so that factored in as well.
    (But not too much really, as you can see from the copyright-2014-sign this has been in the works for a while.)
    So about this piece…where do I start…
    It’s my favourite credits song, it does the style best of all the credit songs in my opinion, but it also is the by far hardest to arrange for a piano. Transcribing took ages, arrangement was complicated because of the limitations of the piano and doubt in general, because I, as previously mentioned, really didn’t want to screw this one up.
    The balance between leaving space and using the options the piano gives you feels so fragile to me, I'm glad I was able to finish this with any confidence in my arrangement at all. So... fragile.... *shudders*.
    I hope you agree that this was worth it, and get enough pleasure out of it to justify my suffering.
    (I’m kidding...a bit. It was also fun and motivating of course).
    …I’m not going to lie, I expect to be smothered by praise in the comments for my hardship.
    Also, now all the Credit songs from the Souls series have been arranged for piano. Praise the sun man, praise the sun...

    this honestly makes me want to play through the entire game again, blighttown and all. Yet I also dont want to, as I know that beating this game again will never compare to the feeling I got when I first beat it. I would do anything for that feeling again. But sadly, it'll never come. This game is truly a masterpiece if it can make anybody feel that way.

      +atkirk12 For me the biggest moments were the Artorias fight and the Gwyn fight. I didn't have much problems with them, but man did they give me the feels, even when I didn't understand everything that was going on there lore-wise. (the music was mostly responsible in those cases)

      The yearning for that special feeling really eats away at you. It's much worse if you didn't actually experience the game to its fullest. I ruined most of my first time through spoilers and I have never felt this much regret in my life. In fact, my first dark souls playthrough was not 1, not 2, but 3. You can probably imagine how many references from previous games that went over my head. From this dreadful experience I vowed to myself that I would try to avoid any possible spoiler of a game that I'm interested in until I have fully completed it. This is a feeling that I never want to have again, the feeling of missing out on something really special and unique. No gamer, or even no person would ever want to feel it.

    Had to come back to this one, I'd say that this is the best soundtrack from DS series and your arrangement is one of the best ones I've heard! The haunting vocals in the beginning of the original always get me!

    It's beautiful man. This is my favorite song from the OST. Even if you have won, passed all the hardships and deadliness of Lordran, you have succeeded in fulfilling your fate... this song tells you otherwise. Nothing has changed, the cycle is just prolonged and the suffering stays...

      Though I guess everyone interprets things differently.

    I think I prefer your arrangement to the original.. It is very well done and it sounds soooo much better on piano. Gives it more of a great hollow sound, and imo, fits the end of the game much better than the original. Not saying the original didn't. The original is breath-taking but not as much as this was, and it did fit the ending very well. Anyways, rant over, that's all my opinion. Can't wait to see what you do next!

      @@drjekyllmrheil1001 I like both quite a bit. There's something to appreciate about how the original was mainly, if not entirely, vocals. But at the same time, this rendition sounds absolutely amazing - each note is perfect. Just listening to it, I can begin to smell dust and aged paper as if... as if it were a story written in millenia ago, and I was reading the book. It's fascinating.

    repost from silversoldier90 comment (to this song on other video):
    I had a name.
    Before the dark crept in and I lost myself.
    I had a name.
    Before being trapped in this endless cycle of death and rebirth.
    I had a name.
    Before being hauled off to an asylum to rot.
    I had a name.
    Before being chosen to fulfil a prophecy of which I knew nought.
    I had a name.
    Before perishing so many times I thought I would go mad.
    I had a name.
    Before facing the creatures of nightmares and losing myself to this quest.
    I had a name.
    Before facing the man whom I once thought a god, now reduced to a husk.
    I had a name.
    I had a name...

    This song reminds me of seigemeyer when he died sorry if I spelled it incorrectly I cried for 2 hours because of all the times I killed all of the people and animals in dark souls maybe that's why it's called dark souls because after playing it and feeling the emotions of killing and slathering every one you just feel dead hollow but playing dark souls was such a challenge and now after all of that I've still been thinking why this all happened in all of the series of souls games guess will have to wait until the dlc of dark souls 3 Maybe.

      Dark Lullaby Thank you!
      Yes, it's all done by ear (unless someone already arranged it before me, then I use that as help, but that is unfortunately almost never the case)

    • @darklullaby9909
      @darklullaby9909 9 років тому

      DrJekyll MrHeil i usually start my arrangements either from a midi or from someone else´s sheets, i´m not good at picking up notes by ear and belive me i tried. seeing how good you are, would you be interested in doing a few arrangements in collab with me? thanks and keep up the awesome work ;)

    • @drjekyllmrheil1001
      @drjekyllmrheil1001  9 років тому +1

      Dark Lullaby I'm not good at it either. It takes a lot of time and concentration for me, so the arranging afterwards is pretty much the reward for the hard work of transcribing.
      Whether I'm interested in a collab depends on a lot of things (whether I like the original, how the process will be split up, how much time I have etc.), so it'd be best if you'd send me a message where you tell me all these things as detailed as you can.

    First of all, this is great stuff.
    Some of the tremolos felt bit off to me though, specifically the single note ones or the ones on the lower left hand notes. Bar 50-52 come to mind here, I like what you were going for, though for my personal tastes I feel like the repetition of the notes was excessive in a piece that is generally quite haunting. It sounds jarring or out of place to me (though, maybe it's just the reverb that is messing with my head). On the other hand, when you use it in 159-173, it sounds amazing.
    Just my 2 cents : ).
    I'm also enjoying your other arrangements, keep it up!

    • @drjekyllmrheil1001
      @drjekyllmrheil1001  7 років тому +1

      Thank you for your critique!
      I just listened to the Bars 50-52 and have to say I like those tremolos.
      I do encourage everyone to play my arrangements as they feel they sound best, so those tremolos are just 'my opinion' and everyone should feel free to disagree with it. ^^

      Sure, the only thing you have to watch out for is that if you monetize it, Namco can claim (a part of) the money since they hold the rights for the original track.

    On bar 78, are the bass notes played for 1 1/2 beats, or 2? Because it sounds like it was played it for 2, and when I tried 1 1/2, it sounded really sudden and awkward.
