    I agree with this video that I found just by looking it up! Learning from the Yuzu and RyuJinx situations, it is clear that Nintendo really doesn't want fans releasing emulators for their ongoing systems, and that's actually way more fair than most people make it out to be! Even without Piracy involved or allowed, it is still risky to immediately emulate a platform that is still selling well and is meant to be played their vanilla way until their successor has finally arrived! And while I love the benefits that both Yuzu and RyuJinx added & included to enhance gameplay quality display resolutions & framerates and such, it is still important to wait until their current generation is over before migrating their previously current-gen platform into more advanced software or whatnot. What I would consider okay though, is to privately emulate Nintendo Switch 2 albeit WITHOUT publishing that emulator for anyone to download, because then that would really potentially sabotage their sales from there. I'm probably yapping a bit too much, so i'll just drop this comment there by now.

      It's a damn corporation that, for example, harassed some hackers in the 3DS era. Logged all their online interactions, contracted detectives to follow their movements. Did intelligence to figure out who they were, what they worked for, times they left and arrived their homes. And then assaulted them at their door, returning from work, telling them what to do or else they'll ruin their life. It's all in the gigaleaks. Neimod.
      And now they're more wealthy than ever. Ruining people's lives under their child's play is nonsensical.
      Switch was hugely successful, even with emulators being up right while it was current. I'll never justify bad actions corporations take only for their own sake, since they aren't losing money.
      After what they did in the 3DS era, and what they did in the Switch era, they don't deserve any respect.

    In my opinion any device that fits the architectural definition of a computer and is meant for personal use should have an open bootloader, from a smart coffee machine to the car in your driveway.
    For me that is an essential part of owning something.
    That's why I support both modding devices and emulating them on open hardware, including new ones.
    As long as the service you're providing is good, fair and convenient, piracy wont be an issue that really hurts sales.

    Ngl although i love nintendo i think emulation would die down a hell of alot for current games if nintendo were to make pc ports of there games, emulators would be starved of users, bar ( as you mentioned ) old discontinued consoles. Although highly doubtful that they will i personally think it would solve the piracy issue for modern nintendo games

    I get why emulating current-gen consoles is wrong but also we can't forget how weak the Switch is and the amazing things you can do on an emulator (if you have a good PC) to improve that, I love playing Switch games on Ryujinx in 1440p and higher fps even tho I own those games on switch, it's just simply a better experience. But I do hope that on switch 2 we won't have that problem to begin with, and can enjoy high fps&resolution from the console itself.

    • @Kattatonia
      @Kattatonia  8 днів тому +3

      This right here. I'm just as "guilty" of dumping and emulating my switch stuff on yuzu for better performance etc. I'm hopeful Switch 2 will have the power to NOT push people into emulating elsewhere because the collateral damage is probably going to be a legal challenge to emulation as a whole.

    This discussion wouldn't be necessary or maybe wouldn't even exist if only Nintendo would PRICE THEIR STUFF CORRECTLY.

    Good video, a lot of this is pretty on point but another thing it wouldnt be a problem to emulate current gen consoles if people wouldn't abuse it and just use their original roms, but as you said people are gonna find the rom elsewhere and pirate it 9 times out of 10, also setting up emulators is pretty straight forward most times unless you are using the RPCS3 or something of that sort where you have to download the original systems firmware, anything like dolphin, project 64, SNES9x, and mGBA are essentially download drag and drop the rom and your good to go as long as your pc has decent hardware, other then that very solid video and i agree people shouldn't be trying to emulate the newest generation consoles just for pirating games, its extremely disrespectful to the people who made the previous games that created all of our childhoods and love for these games

    I do want to play current Switch games with emulation or an official PC version. If they put their games on PC I would happily buy them. If the Switch 2 sells out and you can't find one for 6 months to a year like I expect it to then I might just have emulate the new games until I can get my hands on one. If they put the new games on Switch 1 until Switch 2s are readily available though I would consider maybe playing on a Switch 1 until I can find a Switch 2 or again just emulating them until I can get a Switch 2. Piracy is always a service issue.

    • @Kattatonia
      @Kattatonia  3 дні тому +5

      No. And this is a really weird take lol.
      If a game is no longer being sold or supported and publishers aren't making it available by any other means then no its not "piracy" as it doesn't meet any normal definition of theft. My position is 100% if I buy it, I OWN it, and will play it on whatever device I choose.
      But if your intention is to deliberately not pay in the first place when it IS being actively sold and supported then yes it's piracy, it's directly denying the developers who created it from the payment they deserve.
      A public Switch 2 Emulator is unquestionably going to enable, and be used for piracy if it exists during the lifetime of the console itself. I'm well aware Switch 2 emulation will happen regardless, the point of this video was to show what's potentially at stake when Nintendo has a cow about it.

    Emulators are not illegal and can never be illegal as long as it's free and because of that it's non profitable. This is why dolphin can't be touched. The reason Nintendo went after yuzu and ryujinx is because the creators were charging money on the play store for there emulators. It's not a question of if it's legal or illegal. It's a question of trying to profit from a source you built off of others originally owned devices. Emulator is 100% LEGAL and people like you on UA-cam discouraging others not to do something Legally in fair use is what's wrong with our world today. Some people will never get a chance to afford things like the Switch 2 or want to experiment with game modding to challenge themselves.

Also, you have done your research but I honestly don't think emulating is all the technical and people can be easily converted into trying it out. Last thing, small suggestion, I wouldn't mind if you auto-hide your taskbar. Was kinda distracting. Other than that, I couldn't agree more! Oh AND.... WILLY WILLY WILLY WILLY! LOL :D
