I used to love BMXing to music, as kids in the 80's my friend's Dad built a huge ramp, it was so heavy and we would roll it out on the road, put out tape player (lol yeh tape player) and BMX all day long freestyle, every time a car came past we had to move the ramp, dude great times!! Jeff Grosso sits down with some of the legends of Skate Rock to talk about the connection between music and skateboarding! What music do you listen to when you skate?
no rap? seriously? hip hop and skateboarding go hand in hand just as much as punk and skateboarding. and hell, if you ask me, the hip hop groups that tommy g mentioned were all punk as fuck!
We agree 100%... but this episode was focussed on the idea of Skate Rock as it pertains to kids in the early 80's starting their own bands and being influenced to do that by skating. That wasn't really happening with rap- of course skaters have always listened to rap but not many skaters were influenced to start rapping (Jereme Rogers notwithstanding).
For me and my friends skating on the east coast in the 80's, it was all about rap. We were blasting RUN DMC, Beastie Boys & LL COOl J. At that time, I just couldn't comprehend the music that west coast skaters always listened to.
