Im afraid the Indy crew might beat me up, since my dad is long time Indy rider from 70's, 80's, 90's and now. I threw on a pair of Gullwing Pro 3's on my setup and I got a dirty look from my dad.

Even back in the early 90s indies were the goats. We all gravitated towards that product not sure why or because everybody was getting it. Thanks for going on record for generations to come. All these guys are legends. That's before the bones brigades craze.
No one talks about skating the way Grosso does, can't get enough of this stuff and i'm always on the search for more in depth skate history/lore/anything cool, kind of stuff
Had those titan ti lights. Kept having axle slip. Worked in a machine shop at the time ended up re centering the axle and tapping a set screw into the axle and they were the lightest trucks I could find.
I remember Tracker trucks with the plastic base. Those models sucked because they would crack and stick when grinding. Indy and Venture would grind the best for me. Skated in Fresno, CA back in the 80’s. My homeboys and I were the first to grind all of the curbs. The old days! Thanks for the video.
for me, I always loved INDY, THUNDER, & VENTURE. but for some ungodly reason, I always ended up with TRACKER. mind you, I NEVER bought a single set, but somehow I always ended up with a bunch of TRACKERS. I really appreciated the rubber base plates because I went through some base plates, but no one mentioned the 1 OBVIOUS problem with TRACKER.....the fvkkin' axles would slide inside of the hangars so 1 wheel would become super tight while the other 1 would become super loose & you'd ALWAYS have to bang the axles back into position just to roll. I know i'm not the only 1 to ever have to deal with that.
Exactly what happened to all my friends who rode Trackers. They broke their base plates and had to bang their axles on the curb once in a while to fix their wheels.😂
My first trucks were Trackers, back in the '87. Now I went and bought a new pair of trucks just yesterday and so be it, that they happen to be Indys. Nice coincidence in light of this episode. :)
I hope they talk about Crail Trucks in part 2. 26 years and they are still going strong! Solid team with Lincoln Ueda and Leticia Bufoni on it and they were big in late 90s and early 00s with the World Cups and ads in US and European mags.
Happy Birthday Jarrell! Glad you enjoyed Truck Wars: Part 1! Truck Wars: Part 2 is going to air on Thursday, August 11th! Make sure to check back! Until then, you can find more Loveletters here: bit.ly/29SdQDy
In part 2, could you guys address the size change of baseplates that seemed to have happened at some point in the 90s? I've always been curious to understand why from a design perspective that they got smaller.
I had a set of tracker ultralights..... a nd would snap kingpins and be unable to ride until I could afford a replacement base. My dad drilled put the base to remove the king pin and we went to the hardware store and bought upgraded bolts. I eventually swapped to indy with a set of red trucks that I ground to the axle. They looked dope.
After almost 2 years of learning as much as I could in my driveway and neighborhood streets on a fucking Nash Executioner, I had finally saved up enough for a real set up that I could bring to a local spot and skate without ridicule. I ordered and Adam McNatt complete from Skully Bros. It showed up and I spent another week getting the nerve to actually show up to the curbs & loading docks behind Longs Drugs. I finally gathered up enough testicular fortitude to roll up. The last thing I was thinking about was that I was riding Gullwings...and that was the day I learned how serious Northern Californians take their trucks. After a few days of going through the motions the local crew realized that I was not going to go away. One of the older kids gave me his old Indy's and the world kept on turning.
just when you thought the letters couldnt get better, it does! best part. jeff and jason smoking. jeff or jason should have their own show like B~Reals smoke box.... I wonder if those crazy round G&S trucks will make the next episode?
I remember back in the day Gullwing came out with super flyweights or something like that. it was a black plastic base to replace to make them lighter.
No single mention of G&S chromolly trucks? Late 80s I loved those, grind like no tomorrow, could turn great even when tight. Didn't last long, so I went back to Indy after a few sets, but aside from the fact that they didn't last, they were the best functioning truck in my opinion.
oh shit I used to rock Destructos, I remember they had so much room to grind down before you got to the king pin. I was disappointed in the one pair of Fury trucks I got, the bushings were so soft they squished out the sides when I tightened them. P.S Tensor trucks sucked and I forgot about how many trucks in my day came and went like Ruckus, Monster, Kreper etc. Sorry nostalgia got me rambling.
I know that anxiety when getting new trucks. I just bought my first pair (Thunders) in about 4 plus years. At least I have my old bushings though. P.s, boil your new bushings for a few minutes, idk it just works.

Dude LANCE hit it right on the head . Yo to me these guys where my freaking HEROS . Even when VERT went unpopular I still wanted to ride VERT ! Those dudes were gnarly and all you had to do to shut a mofo up was to tell that person to drop in a 12 ft. Ramp . People tired of it cause they couldn’t do it. I was into street and I moved to CLEARWATER for a short time and there was a indoor skate ramp with mini and vert ramp. It was gnarly. I learned a lot there and when I ca,e back to NY my style was so much bigger and better.
Can you please tell us stories about how skaters created names for all tricks because without ever knowing, I always wanted the roast beef grab to be my go to trick for air grabs/inverts, and that's your baby. And you're rashnadr to the max. Edit: oh my God,I just found out that my very much longtime skateboard idol has passed away. I'm in shock still so I have no idea what to say, but I need to say my part in saying he was as awesome as it gets. RIP Grossman.
If the reason your choosing Indy over Tracker is where they are made Trackers and Orion which are made by Tracker are made in San Diego area. I believe Thunder and Venture are also made in the U.S. That might be it, possibly Gullwing? Indy, Trackers, and Orion are all trucks I have experience with and they are all great. Indy and Orion are fairly similar, I have some Tracker Darts that are really unique fun trucks.
+delplaya5 I honestly thought Tracker had gone out of business. I haven't seen them in forever, and I thought I saw them on a Wal-Mart board about a decade ago. If they are still around and US made, that's awesome. When I got my son his first complete a few years ago, the only US made trucks in the shop were Indys.
Ok, UK Skater first since 82 ish. Right... trackers, super cheap on Gary Smith complete setups would break (bought it for the trucks, laper and the tracker copings, (the Pacer boards were shit). Later 80's as street came in, indys axles would shift. Gullwings were cool but the cut out on vert seemed to be cheating (as with everything from z-rollers!). Late 80's/90's G&S had some sort of magic about them that made them grind anything...dunno what it was, but like stussi hats, it was the bomb. So Venture.....ground fine, didn't break, no axle shift and not as expensive as g&s, (which had died out by then), and they listened out about nose slides and the placement of the front truck bolts...options!. No more double drilling with a sketchy shit drill!

I got a magnesium tracker nylon base.....rode 1 time.. broke my arm......back to Indy.
Crazy how there’s been over 25-50+ truck companies. Keep on keepin on
And some of them made a really good product . Having a good product doesn't equal success . Independent made crappy trucks for decades .
I still have Indys, trackers, and gullwings that I skate. love them all.

Personally, Thunder trucks are my favorite street trucks. Perfect sweet spot regarding weight, durability, grind surface.
The sound of grinding trucks makes me tingly inside
Great idea to go into equipment. I wonder if you could do an episode on wheels or bearings or even griptape?

Gullwing super pro 3 had a pair in the late 80's loved them, now Destructo I run and there pretty good.
