Can someone explain me how that B7 chord fits into the G major scale. My theory is very bad and I can't figure the reason why the d# note sounds so good even if it's not technically in the scale.
My theory isn't great either, but I believe it's because that flat 7 in the B7 is the flat 3rd of the G major scale. The major 3rd in B7 ends up being the flat 6 in G major. That flat 7 and major 3rd in B7 are the only differences from the diatonic chord that _would_ go there: Bm. I think that's what adds the color. Those notes also kinda help slide the melody in a way it wouldn't otherwise - I think it counts as voice leading? Hope this helps!
I dont think you are hearing the first chord progression correctly. To me it sounds more like G -> B -> Em -> C rather than playing the Em twice (edit) maybe C diminished? the recording is weird :p
