Hi John! Thanks for watching and commenting, I hope you found something helpful or learned something. Being more precise and succinct in my speech is always something I'm working on and hopefully, I get better at that as I make more videos here for UA-cam. Admittedly, this video probably only need to be about 2-3 minutes long, sometimes I'm still surprised how I dragged it out to 14 minutes 😂
Randy, that is THE question! I have other doors in my house that are in more frequent use. It pretty much it comes down to these options: *1)* inspecting and replacing and damaged weather stripping. *2)* Add additional weather stripping to the door. *3)* Pull the casing (trim) off the door and make sure the door jamb was air sealed to the home's framing. An air-permeable insulation here (like fiberglass) is not a sufficient air barrier (Someday I hope to make a video on this). *4)* Replace the door with a high-quality door that has a low air leakage rating. (The install has to be done well too) There are some European style doors that have extremely low air leakage ratings. Typically these doors are harder to find and quite a bit more expensive. One such place that carries these types of doors in 475 High Performance Building Supply (foursevenfive.com/) If anyone else has any other ideas, please comment and let us know!
Hi Bo! JELD-Wen has some pretty short videos here on UA-cam showing how to replace different parts of the Astragal assembly including shoot bolts. I'd start by looking there. You can also find parts for their products at jeld-wenparts.com/
Yes , you are correct. Using backer rod like this is really only a solution for doors that are used seasonally. If you have a door that is used frequently it’s better to replace the weather striping on the door or door jamb
The function of a door is ingress and egress; seems like this has become a window because it won't open. Why not simply install a new sweep, and new insulation into the door kerfs?
@@lindagreen9379 I bought the 1-3/4 in. x 36 in. White Vinyl Slide-On Door Bottom for Metal Doors at Home Depot, it’s not the best but it’s really easy. I had a big gap under my french doors, and this was a really easy fix not the best insulation but definitely a quick fixer
Hi, you’re best bet in that case would be to replace or upgrade the door’s weatherstripping. And make sure that the door frame is square, plum and level and aligns properly with the door slabs, and that your doors aren’t warped.
You are hilarious! Really enjoy ur videos
Thanks!
And your cute too!
I thought this was kind of ramble at first, yet you kept me engaged and really appreciate all the insight.

Nice idea, but what to do with a door you need to open daily?

u mentioned additional weather stripping. whats a good option of material? can u link products?
I like this video but what do I do if my front door is a French door and I need to use it daily?
I wish you were my friend and neighbor 😂
Where can I find the camera you are using for doing thermal imaging?
There is a link to it in the video description, it’s called FLIR ONE
My door is way worse than this one but I’m glad I finally found a video that can help me figure out how to fix my stupid French doors
Awesome Matt, I hope this method works for you!
Put in a slider
Oils t you use regular weatherstripping for a more permanent solution?
July 6, 2024 Not only are you knowledgeable but funny too!
Haha, thank you! ☺️
Bro just get to the point
I have the same french door that the shoot bolt (internal lock) has broken off at the top. How do I replace it?

Great video Mike...you helped me👍
Awesome John! I'm glad it was helpful ☺
What happens if I need to go in/ out the door?
I watched all that to see a man push foam into a door. So everytime I open the door I'm then stuffing foam back around the door.
Yes
That’s what I was thinking.
Man i wish you the best out ther on youtobe its hard the youtobe dosent give a shit aboud smal Chaneles
Thanks, I appreciate that a lot!
Hi, won’t this foam fall off when the door is opened? Am I missing something?

Hold up. You wait 13 minutes to tell us you can’t actually use the door when you’re done?
The information is quality but the jump cuts are annoying. Focus on quality and I think you'll have a channel
Thank Mike, I'll keep working at it. If you come back in a couple years I'm sure I'll be better at making videos by then 🙂👍
@@mikekrzesowiak7944 I subscribed so I'll be back sooner than that. Always appreciate a pros perspective
Thank you!
You’re welcome
I have a french door lake the one on this video and i do hate it cuz it leaks air no matter what i do!!!
They also make door sweeps
I have a question. Will the door sweeps work with the height of the floor? I have a high wood floor lip like in the video.

I paid for a pella which was also installed by pella and yet here I am watching this video. I wasted my money pretty much!
Fixed my door cold air leaks. Now I am stuck inside.
that's my issue with this vid LOL. how do you improve seal for an active door? we use this door many times daily.
I was used my amazon foam to seal the door, maybe not good than the back rod.
haha! I love it! If it stops the air leakage and doesn't allow air to pass through it sounds good to me. Way to find a creative solution 👍
I was hoping to learn how to tackle this with a door that's frequently used. 😢

Hi mate, youre not well 🙉
your video is incredibly quiet
then it gets really loud at 1:30!!
A little too much for me. I need a get to the point video. The video is good though.
Thanks
Lol the people who did my doors suuuuck you can see outside from underneath and they did not cut the trim at a 45 there's no way 😭🤷♀️😮💨
You could just use Mortite
And your a fing pro at youtobe f the youtobe
Por man
Too much goofing around, vs. actual real advice given. C-
No subs olmost
This is stupid, the whole point of a door is to be able to open and close it.
Get to the point
trash audio my dude
Yes, I could definitely improve on that
@@mikekrzesowiak7944 its a total mess the edit and audio mix are awful

I enjoyed it. It’s UA-cam, not This Old House.
