I purchased the DJI last week I went through the manual over 6 times and could not get the drone to work properly. I ran into your video and watched it just once and got the drone to work 100% fine. I wrote a letter to the manufacture telling them they better be paying you for your time and work. Thank you VERY much !!!!
I may be the only 61 year old woman who just had to have the Mavic Pro sooo thanks you for helping me figure out this wonderful tool, Im not great with technology but I am determined to learn
I just got a Mavic Pro and after watching hours of videos I found these. You are the best. You lay out all the information in order and in depth but plain spoken. I got more from your videos than any other videos and the manual at DJI. Thanks for doing this!
I really appreciate you taking the time to put this video tutorial together. Its nice being able to skip all of the beginner mistakes. Keep up the great work.
Very informative and spot-on. I've watched so many drone "hands-on" videos but instead of providing real information most of them choose to be funny and waste your time. Well done Ed, much appreciated.
Very nice. Couple of additional tips. Put your cell phone in "airplane mode" so you don't get messed up with texts and/or phone calls while flying. Second, one of your remote antennas was deployed backwards in this video. You want both with the flat side facing towards the drone.
Good point about the airplane mode. However, my remote antennae's don't turn that way. In order for them to point up away from the controller, they have to be oriented the way I have them in the video.
+guitarsan, I don't where you get that idea from, but it's simply not possible to turn both antenna's in a way that they look the same, you would break one.
Great tutorial, just got my Mavic yesterday. I was kinda nervous and excited at the same time but with tutorials like this there should be no problems. Keep up the great work.
Very informative. I have had my Mavic Pro for a few months, but had to put it on the shelf for other priorities. Having to relearn the basics on vacation, I found this tutorial. Pro tip: download all the manual PDFs from www.DJI.com - especially the Mavic Pro User Guide, which was not included in my brand new Mavic Pro I bought a month ago, and it contains a LOT more info than all the little printed booklets inside the Mavic box. That User Manual REALLY should have been included in the box, since there’s SO many features and settings and options and things to be aware of. Even after 45 Flights in 1.5 months with my Spark and Mavic Pro, I am still learning important new things all the time. (For instance: the DJI GO 4 app video settings default to 50hz for AntiFlicker, which only makes sense for Europe, and seems to result in weird flickering watching the videos on my HDTV. Anyone in USA should change that setting to 60Hz, I’m 99% sure. (Please comment if you have a definitive answer.)
This vid was a HUGE help getting all the necessary set-up finished. I was soooooooooooo temped to hit "GO" when I got a GPS lock in my apartment, but I didn't give in! It's night and 10 below in Massachusetts right now, so the maiden voyage is on hold.
Superb and much more thorough and informative than DJI's own tutorials. You are an excellent communicator - and that's from a former BBC TV guy! Thanks...
Important couple of extra points for beginners: * Never start a departing procedure on a dirty place like he did. The Mavic Gimbal is way to much sensible, and any particle can obstruct the motors. * if you play games of any kind, you can change the function of both the axis, so it can fix better for you taste (Controller settings). * You can enable the extra 30° of camera inclination so you'll be able to look up when flying (Settings》Gimbal》Advanced) * On aircraft settings, adjust the level of break. I reccomend just a little more than the standard. Anyway you like. * To take good pictures on extreme dark environments, change to Manual mode (M), ISO to 800 and raise the Shutter to more than 1 sec. Don't move the aircraft until the photo is done. * NEVER transport the drone without the Gimbal Clamp. Again, it's really sensible. * The height is measured according to the start point, not the level of sea. *Always observe the terrain around for long flights. Adjust the height for automatic return (RTH) based on the tallest thing observable. *You CAN actually use the Gimbal helmet to fly, unlike what he said, but never the clamp. In fact, the gimbal cover is a good way to fly in dangerous places and it does not affect the aircraft at all. Note: The helmet blurs the image a little. Good flight
Great video, always helpful to learn new tips. My request would be for a video specifically about proper gimbal settings and thumb wheel management for smooth cinematic shots when it comes to moving the camera up and down while filming. I seem to struggle with that. Thanks for the video!

Camden B Sorry yes I know the Mavic is more, I meant that you can get an off brand with 4k video and basic return to home for as little as $500. The old nitro helicopters didn't have hover, return to home, and certainly not 4k video (heck you might have rigged a simple battery powered 35mm with a servo triggered shutter but no video camera of that time would have been light enough for a $5000 RC helicopter. Question: firmware update out of the box too? At the moment there is a version 3 for the drone and a version 2 for the controller but should they not be the same version i.e. downgrade the Mavic to match the controller?
Hi Kevin, thanks for watching! My firmware was actually up-to-date right out of the box. However, if you connect the controller to the drone and app with cellular connection, it will scan the devices automatically and update the firmware very easily. As for a firmware discrepancy between the controller and the drone, I don't know...mine seems to match. That's odd to me.

Hi Ed, just got a Mavic pro and l’m have a hard time turning on and off the controller, any suggestions???
James Bedell to turn on the controller, press once, and when it shows the battery level, press and hold the button. To turn the remote off, press the power button once, and when the screen turns blank, press and hold.
quixitoc thank you
thank you for being real.. and certainly educated enough on this to give us great videos.. just bought one 2.25.2018
Thanks, Ed, your video had good, useful information including you demonstrating it as you talked about it. Perfect. Subscribed, headed now to Part 2. Thanks!
HEY! You have the inboxed date as Dec 21, 2017 ..... but that has not happened yet, today its only July 22, 2017 ..... Wait! Is this a time warp video? Lol, I hope so.
David Paxton ,pp bkghfcnm,
i dont have one 😥😥
so y i watch this 🤔😂
cuz i love it but cant buy it $$$😖😭
11:34 Think you meant 2000 meters not 200
If you mean flying above 200 is Right 400 is Max but more than likely you mean something else so my bad
+84 Tubbs 2000 is definitely in a no-fly zone a lot of people fly below 400 ft stealth Choppers stay off of radar by fly under 500 ft and mask movement bye moving in sync with an electrical object in motion
Yep he Set it up to 2Km
Bought one used yesterday, this is by far the best guide. Thanks Ed!
Excellent video! Thanks for sharing the info. I have the Mavic Pro, but have not used it for over 6 months, so I decided today to go out and fly again!
the new mavic camera broke from the clamp while flight why it happened...the camera broke and mavic crashed
Amit Kumar you d0nt fly with the clamp on
Yikes! Did they repair the camera?
0:22 look at the date stamp
welcome to future 😁
Welcome to the NOW future
The best advice I can give a new Mavic owner is: Remember To Remove The Gimbal Guard!! And then keep it off because you're gonna forget to take it off someday.
What will happen if i don't remove it?
why?
Just like I have seen on military aircraft before flight time,
add a red banner remove ribbon to the Gimbal Gard.
The company should have done it.
Great video instruction for 1st time users here. Have been watching so many videos before I dare take mine out for it's first flight. This has been the best so far!
I am a beginner as a youtuber blogger, you know this video is great for all of us and so many people watched and subscribed, I hope many of you like those who watched ... I hope when the day comes I will be just like you as a youtuber bloger ... thank you very much

Philippines
He doesn't need more than 200 meters... this thing can fly 8000 meters away from you...!
Legal distance is 500 feet, after that line of sight is lost unless you are Superman :D
he had it set to 2000 lol
Cerus98 the the no fly zone laws are laws not reccomendations
I think he meant to say 2000 meters since that's what was showing on the screen when he was talking about it
Kriss987 exactly
5:26 - 5:33 Awwww :3

Nice summary of what you need to know prior taking off with a new Mavic Pro. Thanks for this video
AWESOME video for the "starter"!!!!!!! I will be watching it a few times. I purchased mine used, so I am not even sure about all the calibration stuff!!! THANK YOU
Had firmware probs with my first mavic so returned it just received my replacement and i am now all ready to fly. Superb video would have no chance without it!
Just bought it today am going to pick it up when they tell me its ready. Great video. Thank you so much for such great detail.
As a new Mavic owner, I found this video to be an excellent resource. Thank you very much for all the great information and I look forward to watching more
Thanks Ed. For the detailed information on a beginners guide for piloting a Dji Mavic Pro Drone
Great introductory video - much better than DJI's own offering.
So glad you kept this video up! I have only used my Mavic Pro once, 6 years ago, and watched this back then... Long story, but now I want to get it going again. Had to buy new batteries! There is so much I need to learn, and as someone said below, I am an old guy also, and really need the help. I hope the Go4 software is still okay! Can't figure out how to update it...
thank you Ed, I have been thinking about buying one of these drones for awhile now. This video showed me things about this drone that I really like, rather than spending the money on it and finding out that A: I don't like it, or B: that its above my experience level to fly it.
How much does it cost
Thanks Ed! Perfect video as I’ve just unpacked my new Mavic Pro!:)
Many Thanks from Sweden!
Keep up the good videos!🙌
Nice video man, glad it has 4M+ views,I’m saving up for one once I have enough I am going to use your link to support your channel!!
Keep up the great work!
Great stuff. I just purchased the same one and I am excited to have it delivered TOMORROW.
Thanks for the fantastic video.
Great beginner video! I cant wait for mine to arrive in a few days.
Thanks for the great video. I'm probably a little behind since this drone came out a while ago, bit this tutorial got me up to speed coming from P4A I had a while ago.
I found this very helpful ed I am thinking of buying the mavic drone and would not have known any of the set ups without watching this video so thanks for taking the time to do it.
Enjoyed it. Its been awhile since Ive flown and your videos put me right where I need to be. Good job!
Dude. Great beginner video. I don’t use UA-cam that much but I have officially subscribed to your channel! Thanks again.
Just pulled out my now old Mavic Pro out to fly again and remembered your excellent instructional videos from the past. Came here to refresh my knowledge. Had to order new batteries from Amazon considering I did not realize that letting them sit idle would ruin them. I would be curious to know if you are still flying drones today and if so.....which one(s)? Thanks again for your early work on the Mavic Pro instructional videos. Still useful IMHO.
Thanks, Ed Ricker for the tips for Mavic Pro beginners. I've just bought myself a second hand Mavic Pro to use for videos on my new channel. The device didn't come with a manual so I really value your perspective as if you were opening the box. Thanks again, hopefully, some great videos are instore for me on my channel. Cheers 👍
Ed
Just bought a Mavic Pro - just getting used to flying it and trying to get to grips with all the various instructions
Great video - Beginner's Guide Part 1 - DJI Mavic Pro
Looking forward to seeing more - you have a good voice to follow - this is very important
You couldn't do a Better video then this one man. Bravo!!!
Awesome video! No BS to the point and all information that is useful, just got my first drone, Mavic Pro.
Thanks alot Ed for a really thorough and helpful video. I spent over an hour, making a detailed outline as a preflight checklist to always have with me in the kitbag. Great job!
