    Very nice video you captured here! I can tell you spent a good deal on it, especially waiting on that nice moment where they're tenderly opening up the cocoon for their fellow antmate. Also love how you bring up terminology mentioned in the video with text. Great work man.

    I love your setup damn😍 I’m getting my villosa queen this weekend after looking for this sp for over 2 years because i’m from Europe they are really hard to come by. Do you have any recommendations concern the temperature? I love to hear from you.

      Sorry I missed your comment! I keep the room between 72 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit and they do just fine. No heating pads or heating cables required.

    nice video Andrew, I have a colonie and Im interested to make a new nest of ytong, it will be so good if u could make a video of it, thanks!

      @TheAnttarium  Рік тому

      Unfortunately I can’t get Ytong in the USA affordably. It has to be bought in massive pallets or shipped in from overseas. If I ever do get my hands on some I will make a video on it.

    Hi, I have reseived two texan villosa queens yesterday. I have put them I a little set up with a test tube, acting as a nest for them.
    But the queens don’t want to settle down… they are constantly foraging in the outworld. Is that normal Ore is something wrong?
    Would be very happy about an answer!

    • @TheAnttarium
      @TheAnttarium  Рік тому

      They are very active semi-claustral ants. Do the queens cooperate? Do they keep to themselves? It may take a week or more of not being disturbed for them to become comfortable and begin laying eggs. Remember the queens will fight for dominance once you introduce them to each other. Where did you source the ants from?

    • @jansmikrokosmos8710
      @jansmikrokosmos8710 Рік тому

      @@TheAnttarium I keep them separated because I would like to get two colonies.
      The one already hase 4 eggs, the other one zero. Now they actually both hiding in the testubes. I hope they will calm down now.
      A can’t really name a source. I have got them from a friend from France. But idk who gave them two my friend. He told me the queens have bin collected two weeks ago in Texas.

    • @TheAnttarium
      @TheAnttarium  Рік тому

      Hmmm interesting. Well whoever exported them from Texas to France did so illegally. Just keep that in mind. EU is lax on this stuff. USA is not. When I collected my queens down in the southern tip of Texas it took many of them a week or more to settle down and lay eggs. Just make sure they have adequate water, a honey dish, and small prey insects such as crickets. I recommend injuring the prey so they don’t fight back much or wander into the test tube. I have seen queens and workers accidentally sting themselves in a struggle against prey inside a confined space. Also you have no way of knowing if they are fertile. If any of them produce males first, then you know they are not fertile. You can find Neoponera queens foraging all the time and it’s never certain what their fertile status is.

    How big can Texas bullet ant coloneys get?

    • @TheAnttarium
      @TheAnttarium  Рік тому

      Well over a 1000 in the wild I am certain. Would be a mature and well supplied colony. In captivity we can probably get it much higher granted we provide everything they need.
