Maria and the Captain quit dancing in the middle of the movie, so I wanted to watch it all the way through. It was a wonderful dance and a joy to watch.
A dance that is also an act of courtship. They flirt, she lowers her eyes, she returns his gaze, and he is emboldened. He leads, she leads. They face each other, then lean away from each other going their own ways, yet with hands still clasped. They dance differently, each offering a "vibe" that is male or female, and they dance in a complimentary unison and harmony that transcends gender and is purely human. This dance is a metaphor is a sense for marriage, for life. There are no doubt all kinds of love in the world, but the relationship between a man and a woman is central to so many of the things that we cherish. Though this version came from a film, for centuries folk dances like the landler came from the hearts and minds of ordinary folks. These dances have a sense of genuineness and humanness to them that many modern dances do not. Thank you for sharing this with us.
I'm completely charmed by this lovely, gracious music and the elegant simplicity the dancers lend to this complicated dance form. A BEAUTIFUL PLEASURE!
My mother taught me and my siblings this dance over 60 years ago (although she was born in Bavaria just after the Great War, she grew up near the Dolomite Mountains where she learned the laendler as all of the Austrian villagers did. Sadly, that part of Austria was given to Italy in 1927 but we found out from our 1981 vacation there that very little Italian was spoken; the majority of the villagers still spoke their native Bayerische-Oesterich dialect) and we spent many a happy time doing these same graceful and dignified steps. While watching the both of you dance, the same emotions rushed through me as though I was making those same wonderful motions and steps. My body and emotions still remember the dance! Amazing! Back in 2010, there was perhaps about 3 laendler videos posted; now there are at least a dozen and growing and that fills me with joy! Thank you for posting this.
We went to a traditional Austrian Wedding and the Bride and Groom with their Family danced this and it's wonderful to see traditions handed down. We've even seen it Danced at a Polish Wedding so that area of History is still handed down. The Polish Wedding went on for three Days!!!
Beautifully danced. Yet how does anyone create the magic of Dame Julie and the late Christopher Plummer. Elegance, gorgeous lines and majesty. Yet neither was known for their dancing prowess.
I love how you showed the complete dance of this and didn't deviate from the choreography in the "Sound of Music", and how you told the story of an innocent romance turn into an intimate relationship through your movements and gracefulness, hands down the best rendition of this online in my opinion (looking at as a folk dance rather than a cover)
You danced this beautifully, the scene in The Sound of Music where Maria and Captain Von Trapp danced this is my favorite part and I've watched it probably a thousand times! You two danced it so gracefully! Thank you.
You have done a wonderful job showing the somewhat shy first interest of Maria and Georg from the movie. To me, that dance in the movie is the most romantic of any I've seen!
Lovely....very graceful dance! Love this melody as well and have never forgotten it since the 1960s when that fabulous Sound of Music movie came out! Love so many folk songs and dances from around the world and am a composer of folk music and a folk opera here in the states so those national folk songs from England, Ireland and Scotland in particular have influenced my music! Thanks for sharing!
Very complicated dance but beautiful. No wonder in the movie, Maria will blush because the steps get more intimate and face-to-face as the dance progress. Lovely, thanks for sharing.
Beautiful.. I love this dance. My father taught us to dance as kids. Well us girls, well me. I love ballroom dancing. Now if I can get my hubby to learn this for our 20th Wedding next year I will die a happy gal.
Other than Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, you are the only other couple on line who does this really beautifully. I like your combination with the waltz. A real pleasure to watch.
I just saw this for the first time. I could not get over it, so graceful. Had to watch others but none compared to yours. Watched yours over and over. At my age, I guess all I can do is dream of me dancing as well as you.
Lovely! Its a complicated dance. It shows the relationship bloom from a casual stroll to deeper intimacy within the dance steps, very evocative! Must have caused quite a thrill between the partners when they liked each other. In those days, you could not even hold hands in public, so the dance was a very intimate act.
very beautiful and gracefully danced. Got a glimpse of the complete dance of the Sound of Music. loved every bit of it and the romance between Maria and Georg.
I can't count the number of times I've watched your video today. LOVELY!! This is MY personal favorite version of the dance steps that I've seen yet. Thank you soooooo much for taking the time to choreograph this and video this!
Absolutely beautiful! This is what I used to learn the dance for when I played Captain Von Trapp in my school's production of "The Sound of Music." Absolutely love it!

Oh how beautiful memories 😍
It is not sad that Austria lost territory.
Amen! More!!!

The gentleman dances very well - steps are precise and clean; moves elegantly.
YES THE DANCE IS SOO GRACEFULLY, JUST AS CHRISTOFER AND MARIA, AND THIS IS ALSO MY FAVOURITE PART AND I WATCH IT ALMOST EVERY DAY, IT IS SOO ROMATIC❤❤
I've never seen the full dance! It's so pretty!
(Clapping) Oh, that was hypnotizing and magnificent!
Yes
Perfect. Thank you both. My favorite.
To me, always one of the nicest dances of the world.

Most excellent version of an elegant Austrian dance. The intricate arm movements by this couple are the best I've seen on the Laendler.
She is gorgeous and he is light on his feet for a big guy, and I swear he clicks his heels on the hop step!
Are you kidding? This masterpiece has been on the internet and I^m just seeing it now?
enchanting. Don't mind watching over n.over again.

"The Sound of Music" only covers from 0:30 - 1:44, it never occurred to me there may actually be more steps to this dance!
I love the way the man leads in such a positive way forward - so many dancers just seem to almost hop on the spot here !
You have done a wonderful job showing the somewhat shy first interest of Maria and Georg from the movie. To me, that dance in the movie is the most romantic of any I've seen!
Learned this dance in a Folk Dance class in College. Very involved, but most beautiful dance I have ever enjoyed.
