Some people don't even want to be proven right. Some people literally just leave comments in the unironic hope of endless arguing. It's very strange. You can completely concede the argument and they still aren't happy, lol. Very sad and lacking self awareness. Some people just want to fight for some reason. I like a good argument too but I also do so with the intention of learning and sharing experiences. Others however seem to have different motives and that's when I have to move on to something else.

They need to completely redo how replies work at the very least they should have something like a nested structure so if you reply to a comment multiple times and someone replies to one of your replies you should know which comment they are replying to. The amount of times I have had someone reply something vague like "no it doesn't" and I have no idea what they are even trying to say, is completely unreasonable. They also need to make dislikes visible because when you dislike a reply it feels like it doesn't do anything, it does but it's only a vague "this persons comments in the future will be slightly less likely to appear in top, maybe." Also I wish reporting comments actually did something the amount of bulling and spam and promoting hate/terrorism I see in the comments is awful and I report them and nothing happens but for some reason when I write out a thoughtful comment explaining why something obviously bad like child labour is obviously bad my comment gets hidden or flat out deleted all while the original comment promoting that awful thing remains up so it's not because of the fact that I merely mentioned that a bad thing exists. I once had a guy multiple times a day call me an idiot with the same copy pasted reply so I blocked him but he was still able to reply to my comments so I replied to him complaining about how UA-cam is broken and that the block feature doesn't do anything and that he needs to stop only to have my comment get deleted. Like seriously that is so unbelievably bad! What is going on UA-cam? This needs to be fixed!
The comments here are a great example of your point. Everyone is saying "You deserve more recognition" and "Your so underrated", but no one actually comments about the topic. I do agree that your content is great and quite underrated, but I instead give a statement on the topic of the video.
This comment section is just an example of why youtube comments are awful, they're all repetitive saying "oh my god this man is so underrated" or some other over-used statement, yes he is underrated, but why do you have to repeat it 100 times??
When someone calls out comments for being over-repetitive, people start repeating each other ironically, then more people see it and jump on the joke train, until it all becomes the exact matter of complaint in an ironic twist. Not sure how you'd call this effect.
youtube comments have definitely degraded over time they used to be mean but at least actually funny, ive looked at older videos and theres hundreds of missing comments in reply chains or something doesnt make sense anymore because youtube auto-removed the original comment for swears or something now its worse than reddit and titktok repeating the same jokes over and over its not even that im disappointed i cant get incendiary anymore its that they are basically removing part of history
You forgot to mention the "[Makes an obvious call to the channel] (I'm making fun of bots)". I seen this a few times and it's so annoying. To me something it could help somewhat is making the dislike of comments do something visible. Like showing the amount of likes/dislikes. These repetitive comments started when the dank and "when-but" formats of memes appeared. People started using them in the comment sections all the time, and it became commonplace after cringe culture appeared
Honestly feels so good to see a creator on the platform pointing out the endless amount of mindless drones that comment the same thing under every single video. It's extremely rare (at least to me) to find a comment actually worth liking (and yeah, I know it's such a miniscule thing, but I feel it makes it even worse when the simple act of clicking a button feels dishonest to me) There's waves and waves of these horrendous comments on youtube shorts especially, then those same people will shit on tiktok...like, why?
What irks me most about "as a" comments is that they usually employ terrible grammar. If you say, "As a middle-aged bipolar turkey farmer, this video is one hundred percent correct," you're saying the video itself is a middle-aged bipolar turkey farmer. At least in your example the person is saying what they intended to say. Unfortunately, the trend has started to infect conversations where people phrase it correctly. More than once I've seen someone post something like, "As a teacher, you have a responsibility toward your students," and get people thinking the commenter is claiming to be a teacher themselves. Invariably, whatever point the original commenter was trying to make got entirely derailed.
Everyone in the UA-cam comment section is illiterate. That's my biggest pet peeve. Grown men and women failing miserably at spelling "lose" and always spelling it as "loose", or the morons that don't know the difference between "too" and "to". But the worst one by far is there/they're/their. Maybe ONCE in a year I'll see someone use the correct one.
Another thing i dislike about the comment system is how more likes automatically equate to being right. It can be the most insane, subjective opinion, but if the yt video supports it, it gets liked bombed.
Low quality YT comments; it's a tale as old as time. Despite this, when comparing them with the other forums I tend to visit - instagram, reddit, various wikis - I tend to feel fonder. Do you have any examples of YT comments that go against the grain in this video's regard? Every so often I'll see a comment that provides genuine and original thoughts on the content, supplies insight, and showcases good will. I think channels/content creators themselves have a role to play to secure fewer inane comments too (depending on the nature of the video). They should actually express a desire for thoughtful communication and be specific about the kind of written engagement they wish to see. You know, asking their viewers questions about the subject matter, enquire after critical thoughts e.t.c. It's not a guaranteed fix, but it's something. edits: Fixed second sentence repetition in first and second paragraph; additional 3rd paragraph sentence.

I wouldn't consider commenting something unrelated or random "bait". I don't see some comment "fish" and then I need to see their channel right now. I find those to either be someone who is barely old enough to type, or someone just saying something even though they have nothing to add.

Lot LOTS more. But this is 90% of comment sections these days. I particularly hate the overuse of "literally" in LITERALLY every. single. senctence. And the "Morbius is definitely the movie of all time"-kind of comments. They were remotely funny when the meme was born, but now it's done to death. It's not funny anymore. I'm glad the nobody: -format comments died out, because Jesus Christ they were a plague 2 years ago.
I miss the time when comments were feedback to the UA-camr. But now the only comments that are remotely close to feedback are hate comments. 99% of comments are of internet comedians, and I'm sick of it. I rarely laugh at comments anymore, unless they're under VERY obscure meme channels.

These repetitive comments started when the dank and "when-but" formats of memes appeared. People started using them in the comment sections all the time, and it became commonplace after cringe culture appeared
Honestly feels so good to see a creator on the platform pointing out the endless amount of mindless drones that comment the same thing under every single video. It's extremely rare (at least to me) to find a comment actually worth liking (and yeah, I know it's such a miniscule thing, but I feel it makes it even worse when the simple act of clicking a button feels dishonest to me)
There's waves and waves of these horrendous comments on youtube shorts especially, then those same people will shit on tiktok...like, why?

What irks me most about "as a" comments is that they usually employ terrible grammar. If you say, "As a middle-aged bipolar turkey farmer, this video is one hundred percent correct," you're saying the video itself is a middle-aged bipolar turkey farmer. At least in your example the person is saying what they intended to say.
Unfortunately, the trend has started to infect conversations where people phrase it correctly. More than once I've seen someone post something like, "As a teacher, you have a responsibility toward your students," and get people thinking the commenter is claiming to be a teacher themselves. Invariably, whatever point the original commenter was trying to make got entirely derailed.

Everyone in the UA-cam comment section is illiterate. That's my biggest pet peeve. Grown men and women failing miserably at spelling "lose" and always spelling it as "loose", or the morons that don't know the difference between "too" and "to". But the worst one by far is there/they're/their. Maybe ONCE in a year I'll see someone use the correct one.

Another thing i dislike about the comment system is how more likes automatically equate to being right. It can be the most insane, subjective opinion, but if the yt video supports it, it gets liked bombed.
Low quality YT comments; it's a tale as old as time. Despite this, when comparing them with the other forums I tend to visit - instagram, reddit, various wikis - I tend to feel fonder.
Do you have any examples of YT comments that go against the grain in this video's regard? Every so often I'll see a comment that provides genuine and original thoughts on the content, supplies insight, and showcases good will.
I think channels/content creators themselves have a role to play to secure fewer inane comments too (depending on the nature of the video). They should actually express a desire for thoughtful communication and be specific about the kind of written engagement they wish to see. You know, asking their viewers questions about the subject matter, enquire after critical thoughts e.t.c. It's not a guaranteed fix, but it's something.

Two other problems I have with comments are when people write five paragraph rants about why their opinion on one unimportant statement of the video was wrong. Also, when I want to reply to a comment subthread or just read it but the whole thing is overtaken by two random assholes in a flamewar.
