I was born in 1962, I lived this era, and, Dodge and Plymouth ruled, when I was 16 you could get a nice Charger or Cuda for $1,500, all day long, in 1977, $1,500 was a lot of money, I worked at a gas station, when we used to pump gas, it was 62 cents a gallon, I made $65 a week, you had to save a long time to come up with $1,500. In my 30`s I bought a 1970 road runner, I did the body work myself, had it painted Limeliight, new tires and wheels, new H pipe dual exaust with headers, rebuilt 383 with a 727 trans, got a divorce and had to sell it, I loved that car, never been able to afford another one since, Mopars are through the roof these days. I bet my road runner is worth 50 - 60k today, loved the video, brought back memories, I love the Charger green, is that F8, I never seen a green vynal top, most were black, this is a pretty rare car, SE, air, I love the green on green.

NJ is the last state where it’s illegal to pump your own gas. Although I hear that’s coming to an end. Are there any other places in the US where it’s optional to have someone pump your gas? Back in the 80s some stations had it for premium fuel.

Crazy the amount of money being asked for these old cars.when I was a kid my neighbor wanted to sell me a 69 Camaro for 100 bucks because it had a broken shock mount from the dreaded air shocks

Completely different type of car but I imported a Mitsubishi Lancer evolution from Japan in 2010 for $10,000 I live in Canada which means I can do it 10 years sooner than the U.S can now that that car is able to be imported into the United States it’s worth close to $30,000 and when I bought it it was absolutely pristine now it has the dreaded Evo roof rot that happens that I wasn’t aware of when I bought it that’s why it’s only worth $30,000….only. The automotive resale market has gone nuts since Covid like everything else. I remember in the 80s late 60s Camaros being less than $1000. In 2005 I bought a rust free completely mint completely stock 1989 fox body for $5000 now you can get a roller with mismatch body panels for $5000 so I did the smart thing and put $80,000 into it. Look left👈

I had a small part in a similar revival. There is no greater feeling. My mom's neighbor had a son who fell in Viet Nam. He had a nearly brand new '67 Cougar. It never moved again after he left for the war. He left it in the drive way, but put cardboard in the windows, and put it under a tarp. The car was immaculate, and had less than 40K original miles on it. I tried many times to buy it from her over the years, but she would not sell it. In 2009, she sold it to another neighbor for $100. I guess he came at the right time, lol. I worked in an auto parts store at the time, and he came in buying parts for a '67 Cougar. When I asked him where he got it, my heart sank, lol. I sold him some parts, and ended up giving him a hand on it. He ended up putting about $4,000 in parts in it, but it is back on the road today, and the car is beautiful. It meant a lot for me to see it come back to life. The guy got the steal of a lifetime.

That reminds me of 3 58 Chevy Impala's. One was in a back yard in the town I live in and the parents refused to sell their sons car, but when the husband died the widow sold it within a few days... It turned out it was her husband who refused to sell it. Unfortunately it wasn't me who got it. It was a black 2 door hardtop with red interior, Continental kit, and the 348 tri-power. She sold it for $150 in the 90's. The other 2 were in the yard at a farm about 35 miles from here. One was a 2 bbl 283 powered green and white interior Impala 2 door hardtop and the other was a 4 bbl 348 powered black with red interior Impala convertible. I missed buying them by 1 day.

Great video! It’s nice to see you guys having fun and taking us with you. When we lived in our old house 2 years ago the neighbor across the street had a dark green r/t with the black top sitting in his garage with stuff piled all over it. He bought it out of a junkyard without the motor. Of course he wouldn’t sell it to me.

All I can say is I hope you folks have better luck than I did back in 1969, I bought a brand new triple black, SE/ RT Charger, nothing but problems from day one, huge electrical issues, which were never resolved in the 2 months I owned it, it was the epitome of a true lemon. Beautiful car, just refused to stay running, even the dealership got disgusted with it, traded it on a new 1969 Yenko Camaro, and let it be someone else’s problem, and never looked back! Good Luck, will be beautiful when it’s finished. 👍

The fact that you got the car signed is a cool touch also. Looks like a great time with 30,000 friends with the same goals in mind finishing the long haul and enjoying the experience is priceless! The "SE" package was definitely NOT "just" a dealer option. It was very much a factory option as well. Yes, it could be added at the dealership, which is why the numbers on them are a little muddied. Regardless, all it added were Leather front seats, a Woodgrain Steering wheel, the woodgrain dash appliques, and the stainless rocker moldings and SE badges. The build sheet, or even the fender tags will tell the whole story.

    • @ABRetroCollections
      @ABRetroCollections Рік тому

This was not a factory R/T. Options were checked at the dealership to add SE features to this R/T. From the factory, you either had an R/T or SE. There was no mixing at the factory.

    • @That_AMC_Guy
      @That_AMC_Guy Рік тому +1

@@ABRetroCollections Say WHAT?!?! If it's not a factory R/T.... then it's not an R/T. The ONLY way to get an R/T was from the factory. The dealership could NOT add R/T pieces because there are chassis parts (ie: torque boxes) that are welded-in at the factory and are only present on R/T cars. Also, the only way to get the 440 or Hemi was to step up to an R/T. Top engine in a base Charger was the non-Magnum 383 4 barrel. There are many pieces that make up an R/T car. Leaf springs, torsion bars, front skid plate; the only way to get a Dana rear was to step up to an R/T.
The dealership could NOT create an R/T. BUT, they could add the SE trim pieces to the car.
OR, you could order an R/T SE right from the factory with all the bits already added.
The build sheet, data tag, even the VIN will tell what the car was born as.
And there were three ways the car could come:
      1. as an R/T
      2. as an SE (SE package was available on base Chargers)
      3. as an R/T with SE package.
      Here: www.xr793.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/1969-Dodge-Charger.pdf
Read an original brochure that tells the whole story.

@@ABRetroCollections Only available from the factory was the :Charger Special Edition Package" (N.A. w/426 Hemi) Code A47. at a price of $151.85. It included Leather & Vinyl Front Bucket Seats, Sport Steering Wheel, Pedals Dress-up, Deep-Dish Wheel Covers, Wood-Grain Instrument Panel, Hood Mounted Turn Signals and Light Group. In today's money, quite a bargain Back then, it was two car payments. Of course your salesman could order the SE Package on a regular or R/T for you, but they were all built at the factory. Not dealer installed options. These quotes all came from a 1969 Salesman's code and price book that I found on line. The package options also are shown in the 1969 Catalogue. What a wonderful car!

You need to keep quiet because you don't know what you are talking about !
The '69 Charger R/T with the "SE" Pkg added was most definitely a FACTORY installed option making it a 1969 Charger R/T SE as denoted on both their Broadcast Build Sheet and Fender Tags by the "A47" code.
NO SUCH THING as a "383" Engines 1969 Charger R/T..... because the standard Engine for thew "R/T" model was the "E86" code 440 Magnum with the only "option" up from there being the 426 Hemi.

I'm from/in the UK, and being honest, I'm not really much of a fan of American Muscle cars, BUT ......
We did get the Dukes Of Hazard on tv here back in the 1980's and I was a massive fan, so the 69 Charger is one Yank Tank I do have love for.
That is what initially got me watching this, but I have to say, the whole video was incredible, I had to watch till the end. Thank you so much for such a great piece of film, I absolutely loved it from start to end. The whole vibe, the interaction between you all, the scenery, the cars, the music, it all complements each other.
I am a petrolhead of course, but being from the UK I am a fan of small fast saloons, hatchbacks and coupes, as this is what I grew up with. Currently driving a 2017 M140i tuned to 455bhp/634nm.

Most of them were rust buckets then found one very good one that was out of my price range at $900 for a 70 RT with no rust and a 383. Getting Freiburger and Dulcich to sign it was awesome. I'd love to meet them someday. Back in the early-mid 80's I spent 3 years building my first Hot rod (69 mustang fastback) from ages 19-22. I drove it around town for 300 miles then me and my brother, along with my buddy in his '77 camaro, drove from New York to St. Louis for the Car craft magazine street machine nationals. I still can't believe we did that. No cell phones, no GPS. Just a couple of kids with a Road atlas and a sense of adventure. Caroline's youthful excitement brought those memories back. In late seventies my buddy just missed a70 six pack GTX that the father of a son who died in Vietnam finally could bear to sell it. He was jacking with “now I will ask the bank”. Guy from Ohio had money when he showed up.
A couple years later, I worked at a full service gas station. A Pentecostal woman would come in on occasion, in a pristine 396 SS Nova. I told her I liked seeing her come in with it. He said “it belonged to my son”. I never pressed it, as I lost a brother in the military and saw the same pain my mother had at times.
Great to keep the story of these cars .

I like to see people find cars like this and then getting them going again. I have been unable to find the car I am looking for. If you find a 1967 Mercury Cougar (preferably burgundy with a black top) but any color will do, I would get it going for the power tour !

I suggest doing your own. I used rolls of stainless on my 65 fb and various braided lines at the corners and rear end. Used flaring tool from Titan #51535. Worked well enough on the stainless. Wouldn’t recommend the other cheap style flare tool for stainless anyways. Nycop is definitely easier to work with. Just doesn’t look as cool. Good luck.

Right on guys!! 69 Charger was my first car I bought in 76 for 175 dollars. Was just a little 318 auto. Other than needing one fender painted the car was in excellent condition and ran like a top with only having one problem and that was the starter got stuck, pulled it off and when I heard it click as soon as I got the second nut loosened I just tightened it back up and drove it many miles until I let my best friend drive it and slid it into a ditch up against a telephone pole right behind the passenger door. What I would give to have it and many of the cars I have had in my time here on earth. By the way I was 15 when I bought it.

From the fall of 1968 into the spring of 1969 I work for a small town Dodge dealer in River Falls Wisconsin. In March 1969 I left and join the US Army.
On the showroom floor of that Dodge dealer was a green charger identical to the one being featured here. It was an absolutely beautiful vehicle.
This story reminds me of the countless Mustangs, Camaros, Chargers and other automobiles that were bought by young men heading off to war.

The whole video rocks. James and Caroline yack away and that's what we need. The Charger was a super pick and crazy Mopar nuts like these two represent the Charger so we'll.
