How to change a battery on Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald (using normal store bought batteries)

- This method will allow you to replace the batteries of cartridges with storebought batteries (CR2016,CR2025). You will also never need to solder in a battery again, you can just screw open the cartridge this way and put a new one in. Thanks for watching my video.

Disclaimer for anyone watching this PLEASE make sure you're grounded when doing this as if you aren't you also run the risk of frying your circuit board.
I've never been had an issue with any of the batteries I've changed, never being grounded, however I appreciate the tip; grounding yourself while tinkering with circuit boards is always the way to go! Good thinking! 😁
I did it and it works!!!! But as i'm not experienced with these things it took me a few tries. And i should advise:
Try to put back the metal contacts as low as you can, otherwise you will not be able to close the cartridge case.

Question how do you know which side Is positive and which side is negative
There's a side with some engraving which normally has a plus sign on it, it's the side that's completely flat. That's the positive side. The negative side is the one that seems to have an inner circle to it, a millimetre or so from its edge.
Just realized you probably meant on the cartridge xD the chip mostly still has +&- as symbols on it, but the rule of thumb is the most outer metal piece that rests on top of the battery is the negative side, the other is the positive one. Battery faces negative side away from the cartridge
worked perfectly be very careful with them contacts, can you soder the contacts back to the battery?

I heard in another video how someone actually tried this and the battery exploded. He was talking about about welding and solding i don’t remember how exactly he did it. but yeah i wouldn’t recommend that. there is a reason why nintendo don’t do that at all. they are connected together only thru points in german this tool is called “spot welder pistol” something like that

@@mariannazanforlin good question! No, in these games, luckily not. I do believe it is the case in older GB and GBC games however.

Can you put a bigger sized battery in? Is there enough room for more? Did you maybe tried this?
I managed to so while working on one of my replacements, but it does either fit just barely or not. I had a feeling the cartridge was bulging ever so slightly. The one I'm referring to was a C2032 battery btw

Can you use a CR2032 Battery with a cartridge of RSE as well? Thank you.
I've made it work before but the issue with those is that the CR2032 ones are thicker so it's a bit finicky to close it up again. That being said, if you make it work it'll be less likely to shift out of place! Hope this was useful in any way

I guess If you could separate the two metal bits from the battery it would be possible, but it's highly likely you'll damage the chip in the process

@@chrissdas the real cartridges of ruby, sapphire and emerald have batteries too, this was for running the internal clock. If you have original copies yourself, if you look closely you can see the battery through the case
From my experience, fake copies of RSE tend to lack an internal battery; as ImSlice mentioned you can see if the game has a battery, just take a close look above the upper right part of the label of the games and you'll be able to partly see a battery inside.
Worst point of view
Had to record it quickly and without help. If I ever make another tutorial like this I'll keep it in mind
