Just a few corrections - The PSP 3000 improves dramatically on the ghosting issues, and has increased color depth/intensity. But you pay the price when only half the pixels render in fast frames. So at least 15 years of constant enjoyment. I kept playing games on it until I got a PSVita and after Sony stopped producing the PSVita I hacked it and created a microsd cartridge with ALL of the PSP games I sported on the PSP, but now running on an oled screen. Because the PSVita has a fully featured XMB firmware inside of it, it could even run all the emulators and ports at peak performance and with native screencap without having to use a custom script. It was a good time to do so as well cuz my PSP 2000's screen died and I never replaced it cuz I was already very satisfied with my experience on the Vita. The only drawback from moving to the Vita was that playing custom EBOOTs is more hit or miss because it's XMB firmware is custom, unlike the original and doesn't have the popsloader of previous versions (some games run better or refuse to boot unless you use specific versions), so that limited my enjoyment a little bit. IMO most Modern Gaming sucks anyway. Personally almost any Windows PC Handheld is a better investment then a PS5, PS4, PS4 "pro", Xbox One, or Xbox Series X/S. Most games end up on PC anyway if companies want to keep making money off the games.

Also I love my 1000 I have it from when I bought it back near the release day and have always kept it in a soft official PSP case.
The psp 3000 gets rid of the ghosting but adds scanlines. They're noticeable in the menu but as an owner of all 5 models, it's the best experience of all the stock options. The PSP Go has the best screen but it's smaller and I get screen tearing in emulators for some reason. The 3000 model is my recomendation when it comes to quality-price.
The need for a pandora battery is mostly gone if you want CFW. Just update to the latest version, and use Infinity 2.0 and one of the most popular CFW options (either (L)ME CFW (more customization capabilities through plugins) or PRO CFW(noob proof, but less customization capabilities)).

This is a great video bringing back a lot of memories. Brough the original PSP 1000 for over $200 when it first came out and still have it. Got about 5 used PSPs from a garage sale for $5 a piece and they all tested working but needed new batteries since the original batteries expanded. Would use your tutorial to mod one or two of them next month when have time. The PSP is an amazing portable gaming system with its display and library of games. The one system that I do not currently own is a PS Vita. Maybe make a video for it next?
Every battery I ever bought after market ended up being terrible. Id like to bring it out of retirement though. I modded it along time ago at least 10 years ago and was to irritated about the batteries. Then turned my attention to the 3ds and you could hack it through a loop hole in ocarina of time
One thing you forgot to mention is that you can use a PSP as a gamepad to PC (FuSa gamepad) in case you want to play PSP isos on your computer with the handheld as a controller.
My psp 2000 has been in a box gathering dust for the past 10 years and you just reminded me how fun it was. I probably won’t use it and I don’t think I even have the charger, but many good memories came back thanks to this video.
My PSP Go is my portable daily companion. It just runs everything I want perfectly, especially PSX and obviously PSP games. On longer trips I will take the Steam Deck or an Analogue Pocket, but for a quick trip to the dentist and such? Nothing beats it.
Same here. I'm lucky enough to have a Go with a dock and an external scaler. The fact that I can go from that setup to something like a wallet in my pocket still feels cool every time. My vita basically lives in a backpack by comparison.
Great video. I still have my original black PSP, along with a PSP 2000 given to me and a PS Vita that I bought later on. I'm not a huge gamer anymore other than select big mainstream single-player titles, but seeing this does interest me in possibly tinkering with my handhelds in the future. The IPS screen even without emulators would be worth it for me. There are probably many PSP or Vita titles I'd wanna check out too, but you know, we have less and less time as adults now.
I still have my green PSP-3000 that my dad bought from a pawn shop in '09. Haven't used it in years but I used to play the crap out of it back in the day. Tekken games and God of War :D
I found a beautiful pink psp 1000 for sale at like 60 bucks. Came with original headphones. Just missing battery door. It was a cool looking color and I love it
This video was awesome, psp will forever been the device that sparked my gaming love. But I’m proud to own a retroid device that can emulate psp amazingly. Better screen, better load times. And a more up to date experience.
I still play the Vita for games where "updates" aren't really all that important. Like those racing games from 2014, etc. Racing is racing and it's really still very fun and enjoyable.
The PSP prices can go pretty high recently. Not sure how viable it would be compared to something like a retroid pocket 3/3+. Really depends on the local markets.
In my area I bought a PSP from a local Mexican Flea market (for $80) solid condition It was premodded, but on CFW from 2008, was able to change it. For that money you can definitely go a bit extra and afford a device like a Retroid with more versatility and power. I'm planning on doing that too, but there's something just so charming about it that I still am glad i bought it.
@@Pridetoons Definitely wasn't, there were a lot of boot leg consoles that had like 5000+ games on it even tho it was the same game just modded 100 times over XD. But I'd say that the PSP was the 1st high quality handheld system you could easily mod to emulate. I believe it's only this 5+ years have we seen retro handhelds this varied and of good quality to come out.
I've had one of all of the generations of PSP (except for the PSP Street) and I have to say that my favourite PSP is the PSP Go. Although you can't do as much with it (I don't think you can really mod it apart from CFW) and there isn't a UMD slot for games, it was such a nice little system. It was the only PSP that I sold (to get a 3DS) and I'll regret that until I get another one.
Wow that IPS upgrade is insane, i have 2 PSPs that i bought about 6 months ago and i noticed the screens looked quite bad - didn't even know people were modding them with IPS screens
The one thing that irritated the hell out of me back in the day on the PSP was that you couldn't charge when it was on. If the battery is low you could either plug in and play while keeping your battery low, or turn it off so it can charge.
Bought PSP 3001 in good condition with 8GB MemoryStick for around 15$ in 2019. The only thing that I had to change is the battery which cost me more than console itself 😂 I game on it not as often as I would like but still think that’s a great device for the price. Maybe will do IPS mod so I would game on it more often.
@@raretiger true. Maybe the transparent items just weren't selling like they used to. I wish they did still do stuff like that. My purple translucent Gameboy color was always my favorite.
I looked into PSPs about 5 years ago but ended up buying a new Aqua Blue PS VITA from Japan which was a good investment in hindsight. I had no prior experience with SONY handhelds and mainly wanted to get into them since I had just reached a point with more disposable income. I think the only reason to go the PSP route is if you have nostalgia for the system and enjoy tinkering with the hardware aspect. ETSY seems to have good options for pre-modded handhelds nowadays too but you aren't going to get them cheap. The IPS screens on these old devices really are worth it as I do own a GBA with the IPS screen.
Such a tragedy that SCE axed the PlayStation Portable lineup, though, I also simultaneously felt like the Vita lacked a bit of that "spark" that made the originals so special - perhaps the OG PSP was a product of its time in many respects.
I went all in with the PSP last year, I’m only missing a PSP Street to complete my collection. The vita outmatched the PSP in the emulation field but damn, the psp is timeless.

Games sell consoles. I wish Sony would understand that. Its the reason the PS Vita flopped and now the PSVR2. You cant just throw a console onto the market and expect it to sell when you dont make games for it.
I have never used a Playstation/Xbox/Nintendo or any other consoles ever. The only thing I ever touched and had the opportunity to play was the psp. My friend from 7th grade on school anniversary brought it there and we played. To this day that's the only gaming console I ever touched so it's special to me.

I need to get around to getting an SD card adapter for it, because the 4gb memory stick i do have for it is just so limiting.
I used to use video download helper on firefox and handbrake to put so many videos on my psp. And it had an internet browser. Definitely filled a void before smartphones really blew up.
PSP form factor was excellent. The Digital to Analog Converter was made by Wolfson, same folks that made my favorite iPod DAC. Really wish it could have an upgrade that wasn’t the vita
I wanted one so bad when it first came out, I was like 12 at the time. But by the time I could actually afford it, it was an old console already. Wish I got to experience it's greatness in its time period. Doubt I would enjoy it much today lol.
I used to be heavy into the PSP modding back in the day and own a 1000 and a 2000 (God of War). The 1000 seems to have more things you can do with it but the 2000 is a much better device between the 2 (imo). I would recommend getting one because they are nice,so many games and I have mine loaded with emulators,so you have tons of games in your pocket. The aftermarket case issue is something I ran into when I wanted to mod my 1000 to have a clear case. It looked awesome but didnt feel the same. Id like to see some better quality ones out there. I had mine sitting in a drawer and recently found out the modding scene is still alive so I have mine ready to upgrade. I am still using the 5.00 M33 CFW from the GOAT,Dark Alex. Please bro does these PSP 3000 Sony console Runs Android Mortal Kombat
@@ANNaSiTV the psp has a mortal kombat game
"Iraqi condition" generally means that your PSP was used by a Marine during deployment.
you could use brasso on the plastic screen and it will remove a lot of the scratches, and also polishes the shell, brasso is very good for plastic despite being meant to polish metal.

Seeing Mario 64 running that well on a PSP made my brain wrinkle. It's been years since I tinkered with my 1000, its so cool seeing how much more capable it has become.
It's a Native Port. That's what happens when you have the Source Code to an older game.
Woah I have a PSP 1000 too idk if I should mod my PSP I still have its original firmware of 1.00 JP and 1.50 NA
Is it really worth modding?
It blew my mind seeing botw in that tiny screen… then I remembered game streaming exists 🤣
@@Pridetoons the referenced clip was not the native port, that was n64 emulation
Become? You mean always has! ;P
I bought my first PSP half a year ago and since then I barely used my Nintendo Switch. It is still a great device I love it! ❤
IMO most Modern Gaming sucks anyway. Personally almost any Windows PC Handheld is a better investment then a PS5, PS4, PS4 "pro", Xbox One, or Xbox Series X/S. Most games end up on PC anyway if companies want to keep making money off the games.
@@Pridetoons True, I hate the fact that there is no backward compatibility built in for previous gen, online is expensive...on PC you have everything and you don't have an expensive subscription to play online either, PC=winner
Dude that IPS screen looks so clear and clean it almost looks photo shopped lol. i'd like to see more on how you got the PSP to work as an external screen and controller.
Also I love my 1000 I have it from when I bought it back near the release day and have always kept it in a soft official PSP case.
For 1 sec, while seeing the gameplay part, i really thought it was photoshopped
The psp 3000 gets rid of the ghosting but adds scanlines. They're noticeable in the menu but as an owner of all 5 models, it's the best experience of all the stock options. The PSP Go has the best screen but it's smaller and I get screen tearing in emulators for some reason.
The 3000 model is my recomendation when it comes to quality-price.
1000 with ips mod superior?
The need for a pandora battery is mostly gone if you want CFW. Just update to the latest version, and use Infinity 2.0 and one of the most popular CFW options (either (L)ME CFW (more customization capabilities through plugins) or PRO CFW(noob proof, but less customization capabilities)).
Im more of a Vita fan but my love for the PSP as a child its what made me fall in love with the Vita in the first place. Truly a timeless console.
Ah the psp one of gaming's best invention ever made despite it's problems but back in the day playing PS1/PSX games on the go was mindblowing as a child and had so many great memories with it also it's works as a mp3 player
Thank you, I've been saying this all the time, the PSP is 18 years old and it still rivals Anbernic any day of the week.
i bought two psp's in perfect condition yesterday the 1000 and 2000 models..omg nostalgia took me back..best handhelds ever.!!!
GBA and PSP we're the handhelds of my childhood. I still own multiples of both and play them regularly. Amazing systems.
Don't be afraid of the glass mod, but do a mock fit before using loca to affix the glass to the ips panel. It will take a LOT of loca, but will be worth it.
Do you notice how the PSP has no bezel? But for some reason it's impossible for manufacturers to accomplish that these days.
Sony probably spend millions on R&D for the PSP compared to some shady chinese 2-people companies who spend a few months and a few hundred dollars.

I have a pspgo that I snagged for like 50 bucks years ago, i love going back to it every once in a while. fantastic system
The native support for PSP games alone makes one of these worth owning. Great library of games!
The PS Vita is quite astonishing for sure
With Infinity and ARK-4, you do not need any pandora battery as you can just put some files on the card and do a permanent installation with Infinity
I still play the Vita for games where "updates" aren't really all that important. Like those racing games from 2014, etc. Racing is racing and it's really still very fun and enjoyable.
Hell Yeahhh 🤘
Long live PSP🔥
The PSP prices can go pretty high recently.
Not sure how viable it would be compared to something like a retroid pocket 3/3+.
Really depends on the local markets.
PSP was the original emulation device in many respects
@@Retrofire-47 it really was. I used to play NES, SNES, GEN, GB & GBA on my 1000 all the time.
In my area I bought a PSP from a local Mexican Flea market (for $80) solid condition
It was premodded, but on CFW from 2008, was able to change it.
For that money you can definitely go a bit extra and afford a device like a Retroid with more versatility and power.
I'm planning on doing that too, but there's something just so charming about it that I still am glad i bought it.
@@Retrofire-47 No it wasn't, China was making Emulation devices even before the PSP.
Not mt experience with the original 1000 and the pspgo later...
Im not sure, but i think that the psp 3000 already has an ips screen
my first console 😍
Sounds like good memories there. I wanted a PSP back when it came out but my siblings kept destroying my consoles.
Started using my PSP again as i want to start playing retro game. been laying around almost 10 years. But started missing the old school games.
I still play psp titles on my molded vita now tho
I'll never understand why there isn't more tech in clear, colored shells. It looks so good
I think it's just more expensive to make. You know companies are always trying to save a penny in any way that they can.

The IPS screens on these old devices really are worth it as I do own a GBA with the IPS screen.
i have both. love the psp but you can just put a psp emu on the vita. the only thing that always bugs me is the memory cards being so expensive :/
@@janeswurld just buy a SD2VITA adapter bro and you can use sd cards in your vita
20 years and yet still feels like it was just released not too long ago.
Such a tragedy that SCE axed the PlayStation Portable lineup, though, I also simultaneously felt like the Vita lacked a bit of that "spark" that made the originals so special - perhaps the OG PSP was a product of its time in many respects.
Yup. It was just like the dude. It was the man for its time and place
I've been recommending the trusty old PSP as an emulation device for years. Great to see a video like this 👍
I got myself a modded PSP for $100 a few months ago; well worth it through its emulation & rom playability alone
It'll still be amazing in 50 years time
I went all in with the PSP last year, I’m only missing a PSP Street to complete my collection.
The vita outmatched the PSP in the emulation field but damn, the psp is timeless.

Truthfully, not my favorite console, but it has such a great line-up of games (especially tactical RPGs,) that it's worth picking up cheap!
The PSP was not my first handheld console but it still remains my favorite. Until the Steam Deck came out this little device was THE emulation machine. I have the 2000-series Star Wars Edition and a PSP Go.
Thank you for writing down all the games that are being played in the video!
Games sell consoles. I wish Sony would understand that. Its the reason the PS Vita flopped and now the PSVR2. You cant just throw a console onto the market and expect it to sell when you dont make games for it.

My friend from 7th grade on school anniversary brought it there and we played. To this day that's the only gaming console I ever touched so it's special to me.
I miss my PSP2000. When I bought I felt kinda bad spending so much money on a handheld device. But the games (wipeout, god of war, gta) and the whole emulation support. Good times.

God I remember when me and my brother got one for Christmas with a ton of games.
I grew up on these babies and enjoyed them as much as my DS lite. I still have 3 of them, my childhood 1000, a green 3000 and a black Go, but its tough choosing them over my android phone that can upscale to 6x resolution, use 60fps hacks and remap controls making FPS games much more playable. Still, I'll never get rid of em!
repurchased a PSP 3000 and started collecting games again. It’s an awesome console. albeit smaller in my hands than what I remember but still awesome non the less.

Back in 2010 I bought a PSP at a yard sale. It was a truly liminal experience. He let me hook my laptop up to his internet so I could pay him with paypal right there. I paid $25 for it and it was in great condition. Great handheld I've kept all this time. I need to get around to getting an SD card adapter for it, because the 4gb memory stick i do have for it is just so limiting.

Before smartphones, PSP was the ultimate media device, even more than iPods imo.
NICE! PSP in 2023... I never thought I would hear that back in the day when I was modding PSPs.
