The behind the scenes is where it truly starts. Scripting. Rehearsal, Packing, Unpacking, Audio, Tripods, Cameras, Lighting, Editing, etc. UA-cam is a full time job. It’s hard for some people to realize the amount of dedication it takes to create the work from start to finish. Great message on this one. Thanks. 🤝🏼
Im a beginner content creator and I am so fond of your videos because they remind me that filmmaking is a form of art and the creativity and possibilities are limitless
The lighting dying when you said lighting places not faces is very poetic. It was like the time in winter you were shooting by the lake then the birds flew passed you and you had thought that you wouldn't get a good shot. You have some good juju
Really appreciate your approach to product videos. Not just rambling off a bunch of tech specs, but showing real world use cases, and why the tech specs matter in real time. I don’t have a use for the light in reality, but after this video I want to make an excuse for it lol.
This was by far the best lighting video I've seen on the tube and not just because of the information because there are hours upon hours of lighting techniques you could talk about but the presentation and the chill vibe you use. DP's be STRESSED lmao. I'm a self-professed UA-cam University Alumni and already know how to shoot various lighting setups but this was engaging, cinematic and deserved a full watch and subscribe. Right before you said it in the video I literally said I know it took a lot of work to do this video. Nailed it bruh.
I can certainly see how much effort was needed for this vid. That kitchen scene looked great once the haze settled down, and good points about shooting multiple shots around the kitchen just by keeping the light where it was. Cheers
Loving these deeper dives, slowing everything down and showing the with light-without light examples :) And the 600 is a *beast*! Saving up for my own proper first light, right now using a led panel construction site lamp I diy’ed into a key light with a home made softbox and grid made of cardboard for my channel, probably not going to be able to get anything stronger than a 100 or 120 light, but these videos are really helpful so keep’em coming :)
Nice work bro! I appreciate the honesty; you're not lying it's not easy filming yourself. I'm glad someone out here is brave enough to admit the truth regardless of your experience level. Plus being a parent, and a filmmaker can be its own discussion, haha.
Lighting is super tough and a learning process for sure. I’ve been enjoying the creative adventure of lighting my shots. This video helped a ton man! W video as always ❤
Omg thank you so much for this gem of a video. I love your work, always super inspiring. And now this light is on my goals list because I ain’t playin around with what I’m tryin to produce! I’m a newb but we gunna get there.✨🙌🏽
great video my man, your point at the end is spot on, it's lots of effort to get the lighting right especially in a way that lets you shoot many different angles with good cinematic lighting.
Dude that light is something else man. I neeeeeeeed that light. 😂 Adding that to my list. But damn $2500 for just the light. That's crazy. Love the spec though.
The problem with bouncing light is a lack of control over spill. In this video we can see the light just going everywhere which is fine for this setup. But it might not work for every setup which would then require more light stands for flags and such. A lot of that gets alieviated with a softbox+grid. There's not a right or wrong to either approach. It's just important to know the differences in each setup.
I’ve gotten a similar look with my 80 watt Gvm for a night time scene in a parking lot. Wouldn’t be strong enough for a day time shoot to imitate sunlight though.
Great effort in this video. Must be a lot of work. I think for my first key light I’m gonna have to go something a little cheaper. Any particular brands you recommend?
We do not film, we video. We make movies, not films. :-) Cinematic Lighting for Creators VIDEOING or shooting Themselves. :-) Film, filming, and filmmaking are the most misused and MIMICKED words in the industry. Even though the words, movie, and film, went hand in hand. There was a time when you couldn't have one without the other. This is no longer the case. Thank you for your time, film. Digital video and film require different skill sets. Having DIFFERENT HISTORICAL and TECHNOLOGICAL timelines spanning 150 years. Have PRIDE and appreciation of the gear we use, including the words that describe what we do. Plenty of AMAZING video engineers worked hard to develop the technology that eventually superseded film. Our tools are Digital Video, Non-linear, and CGI. We are moviemakers, not filmmakers. We do what filmmaking wished it could, and movie-making still does. Not only that, but we are creative types such as Videographers, Directors, and Cinematographers. Using the word film lacks originality, and creativity, and expresses a limited understanding of what got us here, including the tools (technology) we use. Also, since the individuals teaching this craft in the 21st century have as little knowledge as the students, so much is getting lost in translation. If a school calls itself a "film" school or defines you are filming. Find another school. If you learn to appreciate the tools of the craft. The art will follow. :-) We video or are videoing, we do not film. Don't like it? Apply some of that creative originality instead of mimicking. We learn from, but differentiate from, the RARE professionals who know how to use film stock (like, KODAK COLOR NEGATIVE 35millimeter 500T or Kodak VISION 70millimeter 2383) and film cameras, like the ARRIFLEX 435 or the Panavision R-200 and let's not forget Steenbeck flatbed film editors. If you know the difference and have a better understanding of the craft. You will stand out in an industry polluted with point-and-shoot "pros". Respect to you. YC, what's good bro!? Just curious do you voice over your videos ever or are some parts VO and some the actual recording from your mics? I'm wondering how the BTS of your audio planning and sound editing is like. Would love a video like this where you dive into sound a bit more in depth the same way you have with your lighting videos! Loving your content and you're making learning this new skill so much fun man. The way you put out content is very inspiring!!!
Happy Sunday! I wanted to go with a more chill vibe for this video, hope it helps someone out there.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
They always do thank you!

Truth
That window-kitchen setup tho. Damn. Well done mate.

"Give yourself time to experiment, give yourself time to fail." Couldn't have said that better bro.
I have to echo what everyone else is saying, that light coming through the window was an amazing touch and something I never thought about✊🏾
🐐 You're consistently pushing the game forward, fire!

Loving the minimalist set up. Very useful for most indie trying to light on a budget with one source.
You putting the light through the window is something I never ever thought about. That looked killer.
Game changer honestly!

Just starting my filming journey and I see this is not cheap😅 Love the videos, looking forward to learning more!
Ive gotten to a point where I embrace the darkness in my scenes. Huge fan of natural lighting scenes. Im digging this video!

Boy you good!!
Dude, I don't really need that light, but with this review, I'm about to buy the thing anyway.
Haha. It is a really nice light I can’t lie
Also, how do you expose and get such clean dark/blacks. It's incredible.
bro with this light you can wake up your son up in the middle of the night and say hes too late for school
So Cohesive 🎬🎥

Has that Ulanzi fog machine ever set off the smoke detector? Looks cool!
thanks for the knowledge
