    I found a 2001 silver SE 5 speed identical in every way to this one (except for the mileage and gorgeous condition) about 150 miles away from me for $1200 for my niece. Taught her how to drive stick on it which she was not too sure about at first but now is her bragging right as a millennial. She even taught her boyfriend how to drive stick! I very much appreciate this channel taking the time to give this incredibly overlooked Toyota some glory. Subscribed.

    I rode in a similar Solara many years ago, and it felt smooth and quiet as hell. It made me still think about getting one like 20 freaken years later. The 5-speed is literally a unicorn of a car. These boring vanilla Camrys are a godsend and are instant classics. Its like that loyal puppy that just wont leave your side or let u down. After 300k plus miles you really begin to appreciate and love it back so much.

    I just bought a 2000 Solara SLE V6. The JBL system was pretty impressive for such an old car. It’s also the smoothest car I’ve owned.

      I’ve had harmon kardon speakers before and I thought they were the best in the world and the JBL in my 2002 sle are almost on par !! I just play UA-cam music through a Bluetooth port and the bass shakes my brain🤣

    I once test drove a 99 Solara SLE V6 with a manual and over 190k on the dash. Car was in pretty bad shape, shifting was rough, driver seat torn, driver seatbelt buckle wasn't working, wires sticking out in middle stack area, and dude had bunch of parts in his car. It sucked that previous owners did not care for that car. I would have copped it if I did not see bunch of wires and parts in the car, and eventually bring it back to be the unicorn that it was meant to be.

    Very cool that you're reviewing these average daily drivers that are disappearing. I think that 1st gen Solara is the best body design Toyota made since the original supra. The interior of that car is overall a really nice quality. Unfortunately, the car is fairly heavy and that 5s-fe 4 cylinder does not quite cut it.

      what about the v6 version?

    • @Gcatt1
      @Gcatt1 4 роки тому +2

      @@sonymicronin The 1MZ is a good engine for the time it came out. It had the most power liter per liter of the V6s put out by the major manufacturers (at around 200hp for a 3.0l).

    that v6 hauls ass with the automatic, it's pretty surprising, definitely enough torque to fuck around with

    2:39 Some good church of the 3rd pedal preaching there, Zach! The manual on my IS300 is also notchy but low effort. It took a little getting used to, but I've really come to love it. It feels so much more honest.

    These cars were awesome! Owned a 2000 Icy Blue (or purple let other folks tell it!) V6 automatic SLE model. I owned that bad boy for 17 years! Never left me stranded, just basic maintenance to keep it going! I ran it from about 65k to 181k miles! Paint started to fade, but that's what happens when you have a car that long! Great first cars for teenagers nowadays! And oh yeah, you DID test a base model, as your tester lacked automatic AC, in dash 6 disc changer and leather seats. But that was about all that was missing, and of course, that cool ass V6 under the hood!

    The Solara came out in 1999, and development should have started around 1995/96 when Toyota was planning a replacement for the Camry Coupe. Ironically the Solara was based on the Camry, so it was basically the Camry coupe that Toyota wanted to replace, hence the "Camry Solara" name in the first generation. Toyota sold the first generation Solara as convertibles, they were basically coupes modified by ASC. They are very rare though.
