- 2000 Toyota Solara SE 2.2 liter 5sfe 4 cylinder. forgot to mention in the video but the power in this car with the manual is plenty, no racecar but not too slow feeling at all. 135 hp, keeps up with modern day traffic just fine. great little reliable car.
Body kit + lowering kit + engine work = super dope JDM car!
I’d love to get my hands on a trd supercharger, I’ve been wanting to lower it and get some more power out of it very badly for a while now, still my daily though, looking to upgrade soon though and would like to retire her from daily to cool little project if I can find the space to keep it. Unfortunately the roads are so tore up where I live that it’s virtually impossible to lower your car and not get a broken back from it, I did get new wheels though with wider tires as a start
I own a 1999 Toyota Camry - V6 5 - speed. It has 400K miles. Love the car. No issues - no leaks. Runs perfectly.
I’ve got an 2000 SLE -V6.. . Had it for 13 years.. NEVER had an issue! It’s Toyota’s greatest warrior car ever made.. daily driver ..166,000 miles… can’t be killed! Should have been a Lexus entry level as designed …NOT a common problem with the speakers! Mine are original and blow current stock speakers out of the water! Manuals are a problem.. Auto’s are Teflon! Might not be “pretty” in 2024, but still make people wish they had one!
I got a 5 speed supercharged v6 one couple months ago and it's a pretty solid daily

I’m extremely jealous that’s the Holy Grail Camry/solara I’d love to experience one of those. Wish I could come across a super charger for my 4 cylinder but they’re harder to find than all trac Toyotas lol. Would love to make more than 100 wheel hp lol, the 5 speed is my saving grace though, makes it seem peppier than it is

I have a 2003 Toyota Solara. Im the original owner. Never had any real problems at all except for normal wear and tear items. Painted it flat black. It has 211000+ miles on it. I still drive it just about every as a beater car.
Well, you have certainly discovered one of Toyota's "hidden gems" for sure...Yours looks to be the base model, not the SE, which is the mid level "sports" model. But, you are right, even the base models had nice interiors...There was really no difference in interiors throughout the models, except the SE/SLEs had leather seats/better radio/climate control. I agree, I think these are pretty nice looking cars, not particularly "girly" or anything like that. I had a 99 SE model with the 3.0L and a 5 speed. It was no rocket ship, even with the V6, often wished it had a 6th gear for highway driving. I bought it used, and I think it wasn't cared for real well before I got it. Nonetheless, no big problems, never had any rear brake issues like you are experiencing. The injectors went on it, but this must have been a known issue, because there was a TSB about it. I found the car very comfortable and enjoyed driving it. I foolishly traded it in on an 09 Camry with one of the lousy 2.4L engines you mentioned. My Solara had 145,000 on it when I traded it, guess I should have kept it. But, the paint was starting to fade, and figured it would need exhaust, struts ,clutch soon. I agree, Toyota wrecked the Solaras with the second generation models (around 2005 I think), they look cheesy, and obviously were not as nice as the originals. The second gen Solaras looked more like "chic cars". My 09 Camry has 170K on it now, guess I will drive it until it drops....Once that happens, I am going to search out west for an old Solara, I'm sure there is a low mileage one hiding in some older couples garage somewhere.

@@dannygallagher9290 These are really very nice cars....But, like any other car, it is several years old by now so will need proper servicing to become a reliable daily driver. The question here is whether or not you want to deal with a manual transmission....Commuting in heavy traffic with a manual transmission is a chore indeed. Most of these cars were equipped with automatics, which is probably preferred by most drivers in the US.
@@fleetwin1 thanks! My current car has blown catalytic converters rn and itll cost more to fix that then the value of the car so im going to probably just buy a new (used) car if it doesnt pass emissions this December. Im probably looking into one of the 2nd gens, SLE trim with the automatic trans
@@dannygallagher9290 I’d recommend the 4 cylinder models as I heard the v6s can be costly to upkeep. My engine is dead reliable and very cheap to keep running like new and easy to work on yourself if something does fail, the v6s don’t have such luxuries. I would totally recommend one though I love my car overall. It’s not the fastest car by far, but how much power do you really need to sit in traffic that never exceeds 40 mph. Where I live, that’s like 80% of my driving. These with the 2.2 4 cylinder will and have been known to easily reach 300,000 miles trouble free. I’ll be crossing 200k soon in mine and she’s never run better, might be driving it cross country this summer too to go visit my friend on the west coast

5 spd is nice mines auto but still I'm happy with the car since I got it for 300 bucks so I can't complain
Cant beat any running 300 dollar car, especially one of these, they'll go forever with a little maintenance, even the autos. I got mine for 900 in pretty rough shape. You got a steal of a deal on yours! Plus, you wont have to worry about any clutch replacing which is a bonus I dont get! haha

check your PCV valve.. mine in my 2000 solara 4 banger got stuck closed and it caused allllll sorts of codes to pop up, including an EGR code. cost me like 10 bucks total for the actual part and grommet
When I first got the car I was reading about pcv valve issues that can sometimes happen so as soon as I got it, I went and bought one and replaced it just to be safe, they’re so cheap and so easy to install you just may as well. I wound up cracking the hose that it connects to though so had to order a new one of those for another 15 bucks but yea that’s all new and up to snuff on my car now. Wound up having 3 bad vsvs and a bad vacuum modulator. Couple hundred bucks later and my egr system is finally functional! Learning about all the vsvs these cars have is not fun and neither is finding them to buy but wasn’t too bad overall
Your flex pipe is blown that's probably why your check engine light is on . The pipe can be repaired .
I got the flex pipe fixed as well right before I did my timing belt, now I have a random misfire code I can’t get rid of even though the car doesn’t misfire. Flex pipe did fix the cat code though. Cost 400 to get repaired though which was a bit painful
That Solara has plenty of life left in it . I owned a 2001just make sure your timing belt doesn't break .
Just got the Aisin oem timing kit (tensioner and water pump as well) done in November so hopefully she’ll be running still 10 years from now
Does this car have a aux, i cant find it
@Bill Bowers good thing that it’s a non interference engine, so if your belt breaks, it’s won’t damage the engine, you’ll just be stranded. Either way good idea to not be driving with an old timing belt

You stole it. I have two now and my first one went 318,000 miles with few problems. If you take care of it it will last years. They are built very well and are very tough
I hope so, it's in the shop right now getting a timing belt and water pump service done, then as soon as it gets back I'm doing the valve cover gasket and an o2 sensor and hopefully, shell be good for another 10 15 years at least so far it's been great to me, she earned a new timing belt lol
