Note regarding coolers: The included coolers with the above Ryzen CPUs are quite good, 3.7GHz fixed on all cores is possible with the exception of the Ryzen 5 1400, which may only do 3.5GHz fixed on its Stealth cooler. Step up to Ryzen 5 1600 for best performance.
If you want more than 3.7GHz fixed, I suggest buying more motherboard, either a more fully featured B350 board, or a X370 board.

*UPDATE* - Several people have asked about the other B350 motherboards from MSI, all are fine, this is the budget option with the lowest price. Spend more, get more, the choice is yours... however at their core they are all the same basic board with different sizes and options.

kamilar kulturistul for Ryzen 5 1600 you better buy MSI B350 GAMING PLUS. VRMs in this one are very weak. Price difference is about $20

That is probably what i am going to do.I am currently running a 1500x at just over 4.2ghz . I would imagine i will not be able to get a 6 core 1600 ryzen that high.
But 4ghz would be fine with me. BIOS on this board limits vCore to only 1.4vlts, i would like to push 1.425vlts max. but i otherwise like this board.

    • @traeheck3614
      @traeheck3614 7 років тому

Yeah, the 1600x is what i am thinking about as well. I am hoping i can get 4ghz on it with this board.

    • @traeheck3614
      @traeheck3614 7 років тому

Yeah, i think the turbo is only for one or two cores so locking all 6 cores is what i would try. I am water cooling so not worried about heat.
I am just not sure how this budget motherboard would do overclocking 6 cores compared to 4 cores.
The 1500x and 1600 are both 65 watts and the 1600x is 95 watts i believe.

Hi, just a brief question. I remember you made a x370 MSI Gaming Carbon Pro motherboard, and you were quite satisfied with it. I just got myself a B350 Carbon Pro model for R5 1600. Is it an overkill (in terms of price/quality ratio), or was it worth spending some more on it? I know it's priced near the cheapes x370's, but would it really be better to get the cheapest x370 (no hardcore overclocking will be made - just the standard 300-400mhz boost with Spire), instead of a high quality B350? Thanks!

Just went through and liked 70-ish of your videos because I can't really afford to subscribe to the patreon (college student :/), just wanted to say thank you for all the excellent and informative content. I sold my gaming desktop last year, but after stumbling onto your videos earlier this year I've been incredibly motivated to get back into it and build myself a new rig. You deserve every subscriber you have and more, and I hope to see you up there with the big dogs in the tech space soon.
I know you recently started doing UA-cam full-time, and I just wanted to say we all greatly appreciate it. I hope your excellent growth continues, and with the effort you put into your content I'm sure it will.
    Thank you once again!

Nice and informative video as alwaysTech Deals! Keep up the good work!!! One notice, the upper two VRMs are responsible only for soc voltage so they don't really need a lot of cooling, the other three in the left are responsible for vcore voltage (3+2 phase). Of course it's nice to have good cooling all around..

Your 4 Serial ATA ports are incorrectly mentioned in order. The ones on the side are actually the first and second while the 3rd and 4th are the ones on the front. I realized my PC didn't boot up if I didn't use the SATA 1 port.

I used to build high end PCs, my last one was a ASUS RoG with an intel Core 2 Duo E6750 back in 2008 with 2 GeForce 8800 gts 512 and 4 GB of ram by that time, spend like 2k USD. by now I'm playing in a PS4 but need a PC for HTML programming and also some gaming perhaps. Due to this I became outdated in terms of information and your videos allowed me to be updated again. Thank you for the good work.

I have a question. I have this motherboard with a 1500x at 4240mhz, 16gigs of 2400mhz ram and have switched between an RX480 and GTX1070. when playing Battlefield 1 at 1080p 144hz i sometimes run into stuttering frame drops to as low as 40fps. Most of the time frame rates are avg 90fps for the RX480 and 110fps for the 1070 according to FRAPS.
I have heard you mention the ryzen 7 running smoother than your i7 as you have said the i7 stutters from time to time.
I am thinking a ryzen 1600 6 core would solve the problem since battlefield 1 can utilize 6 cores. H/W Monitor of course shows all 8 threads at 100%
    after playing Battlefield 1.

Will the Dark Rock 3 CPU cooler fit on that board without hitting the RAM? And is a Dark Rock 3 pure overkill for a 1700X? I don't even want to oc, maybe in a few years when he's too weak and the warranty is of.

Hey man great video! Don't you think it is unwise to buy a board with 2 memory slots? Most people will only need 8GB RAM to begin with but in the near future 12GB or 16GB might be required. So would you recommend this board over the MSI B350 PC Mate? I currently have an old MSI PC Mate board and it has always worked well.

If you're custom building a new PC in 2017, it should have 16GB of RAM, which also should be enough for awhile for most people.

@Tech Deals I just built my first pc and all is working properly but when trying to over clock with the motherboard shown in video and ryzen 5 1600 at any level other then game boost I'm having problems. ive watched and read all kinds of info and when I save and boot to windows it just shows out of the box setting is there any way you can help me out. I'm confident that ive got settings as far as frequency and cpu voltage where they need to be. so to sum it up in the bios it shows the OC and voltage that I'm goin for which is 3.7ghz and 1.35v and when I get to windows and run test it shows no change.

Back in May when I did a Ryzen build there was no reviews for this board, but I took the plunge anyway as it was only £72 & I needed a small board. Still got it going in my system, a great little board for the price. Running an R5 1600 overclocked to 4Ghz under a Corsair H60 AIO, rock solid with temps never passing 65c under load. I've had this board for almost 3 years, and it's solid AF.
    Ryzen 1600 @ 3.9 on 1.32v.
    Geil 3000 ram OC'd at 3466mhz with CL16 timings.
This thing still bangs but would like to slap in a new 3600, or maybe wait to see if the 4000 series is compatible.

Had my doubts about a low priced motherboard but after i saw you recommend it for budget builds i have to say that the performance is pretty amazing
    my build so far is
    R5 1400
    B350m gaming pro msi
16gbs 2400mhz RAM reached for 2400 cause it was on sale and i prefer my system to be stable as much as possible sacrificing a little bit speed
RX560 2gb which again i got on sale (after i saw your review on the rx560 series )
aerocool 500 with 2 additional front fans managed 27 idle temperatures 57ish under full load
chieftec 550 bronze old one but still very good quality and reliable PSU
WD blue EZEX 7200rpm 1tb HDD
    Samsung 850 evo 500g (on the way :D )
most of the parts i bought them after you reviewed them in order to be sure that they are a nice deal and indeed it was
i believe i'm speaking for most of us here saying a thank you for the work you put in reviewing the products and being as honest as possible with them, hope you keep up the good work mate :D

    MSI B250m Bazooka
    Asus Strix RX480 8gb
    8gb Crucial Ballistix 2400
Croyrig H7 or 9 not sure the small one. Lol
    120gb SSD
    1TB Hard Drive
This was my first pc that I built around 4 months ago. It was fun and I really enjoyed the process. I learned a lot from this channel and others before I jumped in. I wanted to go with a neutral color scheme that way I could change the theme with RGB. I could've put a few hundred more dollars into the build but I needed a desk and a nice chair and of course mouse and keyboard. I grabbed a 144hz AOC 2460PF.

Currently, the next best mobo is B350 Mate, would you say it's sufficient for R5 1600 with a slight OC to 3.7-3.8(from the turbo 3.6)GHz?
Love the video, keep it up!

What RAM will you be buying for this project? My 12yo son is looking at this same mobo/cpu combo as well. We use your Amazon purchase links if possible. Thanks

This motherboard was a winner even from the designing process :). Since it's release I recommended it to all my friends whom wanted to build a new AMD build. But what I really really like about this motherboard is not only the fact that you can OC on it with no problems but also the position of the 16x pci ex slot. It helps with big coolers lie NH-D14 or my current Thermaltake FrioSilent 14.

Just wanted to let people know, you CAN use 5.1 with this board, you have to re-purpose the mic and line out ports as sub-center and rear jacks. You have to turn off jack sensing to get this to work, and there are check boxes to change the outputs in the realtek driver suite.

I hope you get the chance to Unbox and Review the Asus B350 Strix-ROG Gaming Motherboard.
Still saving for my Ryzen 7 1700 build and I noticed that the ROG B350 is very close to the price of the x370 Prime, here in the Philippines atleast (Yes, I'm an Asus fanboy, and I want to make sure I get the best bang for my buck.
I read both their specs and compared them to one another, but I might be missing some minute details that would make one better for me.

What B350 motherboard do you recommend for Ryzen 7 1700?

  • @patsjoholm
    @patsjoholm 7 років тому

Quick question: I am going to start off getting an R5 1600, which I understand your recommendation is to go with the B350 chip set. This makes sense for me. However, to throw in a curve ball, what if my goal is longevity and the large possibility of upgrading to a 1700 down the line (once pricing drops and more cores are needed)?
With the knowledge that I will end up with a 1700, maybe in a year or so, does it make sense to opt for an x370 board now? Or can the 1700 be overclocked comfortably on a B350 board.
I have been eyeing the ROG STRIX B350-F GAMING, as I do want at least 3 fan headers, RGB and USB 3.1 (type-c would be a plus, but not necessity.) and I like the fact that it is NOT red.
    Thoughts, recommendations?
P.S. Thanks for your great channel, I much appreciate your style!

      +Patrick Sjöholm I would still get the B350, even for a R7 1700
