I realized that I haven't had a video of me playing bass on this channel for like, a decade, so here's a video of me playing bass! Enjoy.
Adam
With all the talking videos it's easy to forget what a cracked out bassist Adam actually is
I like the talking videos quite a lot but holy damn his sense of rhythm is insane
True. His precision when it comes to time in those absurd tuplets is otherworldly
Oh my goodness. I totally agree. This guy really seems to be that good. There're no other bassists that could write or perform like this. He's suddenly (and easily) in the top 10 now.
I was watching with that same thought in the back of my mind.
I see your point here...but 'cracked out' ?...I think he elevates the game to the point where Crack can't compare now, and he wants a new drug
What a great cover! I'm sure the band will appreciate it... maybe even call you for touring!
😐
😐
I see what you did there 😂
😐
🤭
best cover of this song I've seen on UA-cam yet
yeah almost as good as the original
@@windymustard1701😂
I remember when Adam was just learning ableton, made videos of pick up gigs and didnt have a band. Now hes making some of the best music out there and selling out around the world. Also, this shit slaps.
I've liked all of Sungazer's music but Against the Fall of Night is really a step up. It's such a cohesive piece of art. I can't stop spinning it.
Perihelion was absolutely amazing, don't get me wrong, but it did feel like a bunch of songs with the same album cover. This feels like an actual album. Love it.
Album of the Year in my Opinion
I would absolutely love a play-through like this for every tune off the record. So fun to watch
Thats would he awesome
1:41 makes me feel like i just completed the most insane mario kart map
Honestly Mario kart was the first thing i thought of when i first heard this song haha
@@pazzy768same! That intro always makes me smile
I hope you are having a great tour, this is so sick!
this feels like the _exact_ type of "song" I was hoping Sungazer would make after Perihelion came out, _and_ it absolutely nails it - it's like you guys read my mind & went _"yeah screw it we'll take a request"_
I saw Sungazer last night in San Francisco and it was over-the-top FANTASTIC! Four awesome musicians, terrific music. Not just awesome chops (like for example, the Aristocrats), it was super musical and easy to listen to. The cover of Weather Report's Palladium was one of many highlights. Thank you!!!!!
I support the channel rebrand
adam Neely playing Adam Neely’s music on the Adam Neely channel
@@AdamNeely don’t get used to it. Adam Neely might copyright strike you.
@@BradsGonnaPlay wouldn't be the first artist to get their own music copyright strike on their own channel
Something does feel different lately. Have there just been gradual changes or was there a big change recently?
@@AdamNeely. UMG is sending an airstrike on your position
UA-cam music report said I listened to Sungazer for 7 hours in 2024! And I loved it!
0:31 So many musicians outside certain genres hardly go into sound design... It can make corny chords sound amazing. It's not like you guys are going Noisa levels of crazy or anything, but I always love that you guys switch it up with the timbre.
I've been obsessed with building big chords from sine waves, roughly following the pattern of increasing density seen in the harmonic series, then filtering etc. those in much the same way you'd treat a monophonic bass sound, I'd love to hear you do that.
I was WAY into deep Dubstep back in the day, and what always stood out to me were the synths where certain partials become tonal.
They did that in some crazy complex ways I still love, but one day it just occurred to me I can just stack sines in whatever tuning system I want.
Warning, though, you will become more and more sensitive to hearing distinct partials, the lower overtones of bass sounds don't even have to be very resonant. It's a very strange blurry line between timbre and harmony, I wish it was explored more.
i often have difficulty transcribing pieces from video game soundtracks because they use such creative timbres
I love Adam showing off how tremendous a musician he is every now and then.
It's funny how insane the song instantly becomes the moment Button Masher comes in. I'm glad you made a playthrough of this one, it was my favorite in the album!
Ok... As a long time musician (who is terrible at sight reading) this edit with notation is allowing me to enjoy the Sungazer music SO much more.
With many of the newer aural textures, and blend with other instruments I personally find it hard to really discern some of the harmonic and rhythmic information of a particular instrument. This Rocks.
Also. Adam. I know it's a cliche, but so many of the basslines truly 'sing,' to me. The emotive vocal-like phrasing hits hard.
Adam! I always love your video essays, but I gotta say I would love to see more videos like this every now and then as well. This was fun to watch!
Your playing so relaxed, amazing.
dude I had this at 1.35x speed without realizing it and I was so impressed with Adam's sixteenths for a second LOL
All These People has been one of my most played songs over the past 2 years. I have watched a handful of Adam Neely videos during that time. Today I connected the dots. Insane skill🤘🏻
I'm not even gonna PRETEND to know what was happening with the rhythm of that "button mashing" bit but holy hell, that was a fun playthrough of the song!
yo dawg we heard you like syncopation
First bar is 5 against 4 polyrhythm, I know that much
"Button Masher" is the artist who's featured in the song! :)

Please more of this!! So many awesome bass lines that I would love to jam along to
Awesome show in Portland. Still buffering from such a great experience.
2:14 man the arpeggios 😍
This was awesome! I sometimes get overwhelmed when listening to Sungazer songs but being able to follow along with you was great and I really got to appreciate just how cool the bass line is :D
Keep the play-throughs coming!
Always a pleasure to see you play, Adam. Thanks.
I enjoyed this song when you came to Madrid to play. What a great concert. So much talent and great music.
I've never clicked on a video so fast
Same here
Same my friend, same. I had a shit ton of notifications and I just happened to land my eyes one this one.
My eyes know what my ears want.
Did not appreciate how awesome the bass was in this song until seeing this!
BASS TUTORIALS - FINALLYYY !!!!! YEAAAH!!!!!!
The level of chill is disgusting x) It was a great video,, hope we'll see more of this kind of stuff !
Beautiful . . . Love Sungazer music.
adam loves his music so much and this is apreciatable
I want more of these videos!! Incredible playing as always Adam!
Not my genre of choice, but I really enjoyed this. Adam's economy of movement and fluidity is incredible to watch. Makes it look easy... when you can hear that IT REALLY ISN'T!!!
This is a brand new sound
What a nice and easy 4/4 song!
There is so much to say here:
Those 16th note runs are all so clean. Just art in motion.
On top of that it's all fabulously musical. The phrases take time to breathe and where they land and pick up with the chord changes is also just out of this world good.
The timing in the end section is (to me) is a MONSTER of a part.
Kudos. Looking forward to seeing you in Burlington VT on the 17th.
This Bassline has a healing effect !
REALLY enjoyed this, yes!! And hearing the Bass isolated is my favorite perspective.
my favorite sungazer song so far
Can't wait to see you guys playing in Canada!
I appreciate this video so much! I'm already learning so much just listening to the bassline! Thank you so much, this is such an amazing resource for learning new composition and arranging techniques!
This dude got talent.
Keep it up. You might have a career on youtube or live.
Hopefully Sungazer notices you

an adam neely video is like icecream. its not for sustaining yourself but oh boy does it make you feel better!
i feel bad for shawn he must have been having a hard time playing in an unfamiliar time signature
Saw this one in times square, i think its my fav from the new album
Wow, that was impressive. Those stabs near the end are really amazing.
I love this, you're very talented. I would also love for you to do a video on the different types of jazz.
Love you too. Twelve days 'til Sungazer's in Phoenix. I've seen a couple of good omens regarding the concert. Bass. 😎
This is nuts. Shredding like a machine, what a monster!
Can’t wait to see you guys in Montreal !!
Even though his channel has inevitably helped Sungazer get more profile, I think it’s in some way ended up with him being underrated amongst bass players. He’s phenomenal and I’d say his artistry is at a greater level than his technical ability.
You guys fuckin killed it in Adelaide this year, best band I’ve seen in forever, would be amazing to see you here again
real
I'm loving the album. Great video.
Stunning!
There’s such a Motown “play the right note(s) and get the timing right” ethos to your playing, but it’s like watching that set of instructions being followed by Jaco or Michael Manring… Won’t be able to catch you guys live, but know that your work is really genuinely appreciated. God bless!
"The Buttonmasher Part" 😂 that's so true. He has so many crazy sixteenth note breakdowns in his songs/arrangements
Really enjoyed the video, would appreciate seeing more of these bass play-throughs. Especially as the album has become one of my favourites recently.
What, a bassist playing a Dingwall and _not_ churning out clanky overdriven heavy metal tones? Preposterous!
Holy smokin low tones! Sick bass playing. Yes, I forgot what an amazing bassist Adam is. What a great channel. Kudos!!
Amazing performance ❤
2:13 Sonic 3 "Come on"??!
That was AWESOME ADAM THANK YOU.
This is just so sick! More more more!!!
You guys sounded amazing in Madrid!! It really blew my mind. Keep making such ethereal and incredible music and I hope you come back soon!
i love your video essays and q+a's a lot but this was great! would love to see more bass playing videos 😎
lowkey this is how I found out there was a new album out for sungazer 😂. Thanks for the dub Adam.
amazing! i love this song so much, it's my favourite from the album
Good to see you playing again, love it.
Still so sad that the seattle concert was 21+ 😢
Maybe you guys will tour in 6 years
Absolutely cracked playing
you the man. the songs sounds like straight out of a fast paced SEGA game :)
top chops maestro Neely ! quite the inspiring number ! 🙏 🌠
Hot Saturn is def. one of my faves of the album. There are no skips, but I think I like this one and Oeteldonk the most. Great, *great* album overall, and one of my most-listened to albums this years which are not 90% metal (I hope that isn't controversial lol).
Against the Fall of night just does a great job of capturing a life-approving, having fun, being positive and childlike in wonder and imagination kind of vibe.
I'm in love with this album. Super enjoyable to listen to✨
Sungazer’s new album is so great ! You have done a great job for a pleasy listening record and put so much complexity that we don’t understand at the first time 👍 hope to see you on live (sorry for my english, I’m french !)
Saw this live in gothenburg. Amazing show! Crowd was just as nerdy as expected! Great live mix :)
This bassline is insane
Killin! Love what you do man!
Nice to see you playing, with the transcription! Please come to Basel, Switzerland
Nice!
I wish we had kept our party scheduled for Saturday, but we moved it to Sunday... The same day you are here in Portland!
Argh!
Someday I will get to see you live!
best cover out there.
That was a journey. A very groovy one.
Thanks for sharing this!!! Educational, inspiring, fun to watch and groovy as hell! 💪💪💪
This is what I’ve been waiting for!!!
Hey, I drove all the way from Santa Barbara to San Diego to see your show (since Stevie Wonder was playing in LA the same day as you). Amazing performance!
This is so life changing
He got a Dingwall bass. Nice! I'm sure his Kiesel bass isn't sitting in the corner feel jealous. Also, did I hear "Dire, Dire Docks" at 0:58? Listen to the sax.
1:30 that run 🤩
Great performance!
Adam Gnarly! Could use more of these, this is great! 🔥
Damn, I wish I could play this well. You are a beast Adam. Can't wait to see yall live on the 17th
lol I’m wearing my sungazer hat from when I saw you guys live! You were blast!!
Hanging out on the Db for those two measures at 1:34 is so smooth there
Please do a Paydushko Horo play through adam that would be so sick
Can't wait Sungazer coming to Japan in May!! Already got the ticket
That breakdown thing at the end is sick!
Nice as always, big fan of the channel bigger fan of your band. Oh and nice Dingwall, thats a sweet bass.
God I am so hyped about seeing you guys live soon
