Born in '85, I grew up in the 1990s. The music was good, but nothing like the 1970s. I'm insanely jealous of those who lived through it. This list of 100 songs is just a snapshot of how diverse, magical and downright brilliant the music was back then. By far my favourite decade in music. Great job on the video!
You might not know it but everywhere you went was seriously hung in cigarette smoke. Speed limit was 55 and there were just a few TV stations they all went off air after Johnny Carson.
Born in 65! No need to be jealous, the 90's had great music artistry too with new genres, bands and styles. Even the 00's had good music up to about 09........ What has the last decade given us? Industry made music , purely for profit ; realiity tv musicians that have the longevity of about a year and awful homemade rap from influencers and UA-cam personalities. Be glad you were born in the Golden age (1955-2000) of music when everything was beautiful and new.
Omg what a sheer nostalgia blast. I was born in 59 and these are the songs that played all through my formative years. It’s funny how so many of them triggered beautiful memories and an innocence that is long gone. How I wish I was back then and without the need to have the knowledge I have today. This was my favourite era for sure.
Why do you feel the knowledge is a bad thing for you. I’m 53 and I’m starting to be sorry I know or have seen so much. I think it makes us very mistrusting of others and scares us away from too many things.
@@ellap4235 Agreed with you and Daniel Fronc. ONE song by Rod Stewart and it's "D'ya Think I'm Sexy?"? Where is "Maggie May" or "You're In My Heart"!? And if there was one Who song on here, "Behind Blue Eyes"? PLEASE! What happened to "Baba O'Riley" or "Pinball Wizard? Elton John's only song is "Daniel"? Too many here, but I'll ask about "Your Song", "Bennie & The Jets" and "Crocodile Rock"! And shouldn't the only Fleetwood Mac song on here be from the RUMOURS album!? I'm all for "Rhiannon", but where are "Dreams", "Don't Stop", and "Go Your Own Way"!? Oh, and Supertramp's one song is "Breakfast In America"? What about "The Logical Song", "Goodbye Stranger", and "Long Way Home"? Finally, the one song from Donna Summer is a good one, but what happened to "Last Dance" or "Hot Stuff"?
Top 100? I could probably do a top 1,000, born 63 growing up with my folks playing 50/60/70’s music but 70’s definitely my favourite,it brings back memories of those lazy hazy summer days, leave home in the morning, not eating until we got home for tea. I really wish I could go back😢.
Impressed. I could not do as well for 100 songs from the '30's! Not even close. Come to think of it not sure I can even name a song from then. Respect!
Diane your mum is awesome 🙂, i think one of the best gifts I've given my 5 kids throughout their childhood was a wide of music from classical to thrash metal. 🙂
That is great, you are blessed to grow up listening to these classics. We have 4 grown sons, and 9 teenage grandsons, we raised our sons to appreciate these old classics also, and we also, are pleased, that are grandchildren also enjoy listening to these old classics, we are a music loving family. My wife and I, we always listened to music when our sons were growing up, and music was played when our grandsons were visiting. You have a wonderful mom. God bless you all.
My parents were kids during this decade so of course as a child I grew up hearing A LOT of this music. Even though I didn't appreciate it then, I am thankful now for having been exposed to such timeless music 📻🎶🎵👌🏽
This could be 1000 songs easily. The 70's was when hard rock, punk and disco started. The Beatles just broke up, Elvis was still alive and so many great songs were written worldwide. Yes, I was a teenager in the 70's.
70s really was the best even if disco became little bit too big, among hits there where rock, disco, punk, soul, ballads, all kinds of music. Hip hop/rap I think was created at the end too.
I was a kid in the 70s . 5 years old 1970 , 14 years old 1979 . Music was the best I was able to listen to 50s , 60s and 70s . FM radio happened in the 70s was cool 😎😎😎😎😎😎😎
Definitely a music child of the 70s (born in 63). One of the best times was every Sunday morning lying in bed listening to American Top 40 with Casey Kasem and going to the local record store to get the weekly charts. Early 70s I relied on a clunky bedside tube radio and mid-70s my awesome Dad bought me a real stereo system which opened up the world of album-oriented music. So many great songs and great memories.
That’s amazing. I always have my dad tell me how life was in the 70s. Sounds so peaceful compared to today, the older generations are really lucky to have been in such a great era, I envy you guys.
@@sarahelo009 Ha ha thank you for the comment, and yes those were special times now firmly planted in the past. Easy to have a sense of envy for for seemingly simpler times. Just remember though, back then there was no internet, no mobile phones, no video tapes or DVDs or Blueray or MP3/4 audio/video, no bit torrent downloads or Netflix. In essence, all of a person's recorded musical experience was limited to radio playlists and vinyl singles and LPs if they could afford them. Kids of today would fall over hyperventilating and having seizures faced with such a bleak existence. ;-)
@@nongthip Yes! My generation needs their phones like a baby needs a pacifier. Oh, but I would trade any crummy tech I have to have been born in the 60s or 70s! I feel like it's made people so anti-social and cynical. I only need to have some good tunes, a fishing boat, and my family to enjoy life (maybe I can even take my record player on the boat, listen to ELO and George Harrison, that's on my bucket list for the future! :)
@@sarahelo009 A particular thing I remember from a George Harrison song, "All Things Must Pass". Each generation should deeply appreciate what they have, and then eventually let it move on to what's next... ua-cam.com/video/QWV4pFV5nX4/v-deo.html
@@nongthip I love that album! He’s my favorite solo artist, and wrote a lot of songs that helped me realize the bigger picture in life. Despite my negative outlook on today’s era, I’ve met so many lovely people through the internet, like yourself! And I’m just grateful to have the family I have. It’s the person who makes the era worth living in, right?!
The 90s were a mixed bag. Early 90s for me was where the great music stopped. It all went downhill when the likes of Oasis and The Spice Girls appeared. I couldn't stand all that Radiohead, Nirvana, REM tripe. People seemed to go euphoric over that stuff as if it gave their life some meaning or something. I dont think it was like that in previous decades. For me the 90s was the era when it became trendy to follow certain bands as if by doing so it made you feel like you were in some kind of exclusive club.
Great soundtrack for the best childhood in the 70's and most fun coming of age in the 80's! Reminds me of family car rides, summer days, school dances and nights at the roller rink. Great memories!
I was born in 62, I have the best childhood memories of this music. Had all the tiger beat posters on my bedroom wall and the life size poster of the Jackson 5 taped on the end of my bunk bed . ( I had to use my allowance that I got from doing chores around the house to actually buy the magazine .) My parents were members of the Columbia Record Club. Thanks to them, I love John Denver, America, Three dog Night, Seals and Croft, Melanie, the Carpenters, Dr. Hook, Elton John, Jackson 5, Eagles, and sooooo many more musicians. I wish everyone could could experience a childhood in the seventies.
Was a teen going into my 20's in the 70's.....never cared for the mild, nice songs....I wanted the wild, guitar blasting, good beats ! Now looking back, my views have changed on the music, lots of great memories with lots of great tunes, slow, fast, etc....
I was born 26 years ago yesterday and the 60's/70's are my favourite time for music, fashion and overall vibe ever, my family say I was born at the wrong time. I love The Carpenters, Joni Mitchell, Simon and Garfunkel, Melanie Safka, ABBA, Janis Joplin, Fleetwood Mac, Billy Ocean... I could go on forever, thankyou for this!😍💛
Think about it. Such a change between 1970 and 1973. You can notice the residual 60s folk music feel to the music of the early 70s. I was in high school from 73 to 77 and to me, those years will stick with me most. Thanks for posting.
Born in 2005, raised on 70s-90s music. I'm glad my parents raised me like this. Nothing can top this kind of music. And it all has that certain tone/pitch that you can always hear in this kind of music, and that it was makes it so great.
Sooo true for the 70's as a kid and being a teenager in the 80's have givin songs I didn't like then a second chance. Music for me has been unlistenable since the mid 90's till now.
I definitely appreciated it at the time - it was the soundtrack to my growing up, listening booths, radio, TOTP, cassette recordings off Pick of the Pops (Not arf!) and learning all the lyrics (which I still know). Unbeatable. I’m a ‘58 lad and I totally loved the 70s
I made a '70s playlist that's almost SEVEN hundred songs, and there's still stuff left off (but it does have the likes of Bowie, Mannilow, the Bee Gees and Abba among many others). It's called "70s Songs--Chronologically By Year" if you're curious. The '70s were quite a time for music!
When the music industry was at the top of their game, hired musicians based on talent not looks, and if you were lucky enough to live through the 70s through the early 90s you were privied to a truckload of great music back then
I did 😂 Not a lot of people know this but Saturday Night was first released by them in 1971 as a single before Les McKeown became lead singer. It was then on their first album in 1975 sung by Les.McKeown. It was also their first US single in 1976 and reached No1. Now what does that tell you 😂
We were naive kids. Plenty of kids are happy today, too. Probably the biggest difference between my childhood and my kids' is that I played outside, unsupervised, all the time. Summer break? I'd come in for dinner and maybe for lunch if I didn't eat at a friend's house. But other than that, I was basically outside - down the street, across the neighborhood, or even in other neighborhoods from 4th grade on. Don't get me wrong, we played video games and watched TV sometimes, too. But I was 5 shades darker and my hair was bleached by the sun. And I didn't know much about what was going on in the world. I was around when my parents watched the news. But I didn't care enough to pay attention, let alone think about it. My kids are much better informed, and we don't watch the news. 😂
@@robertallan6373 You should be proud of it but when you actually get out of your house you will see kids.Kids that are happy.Yes they exist. You are not that special. The songs you listened back then are,not you.
@@Ray_TheRebel Of course the songs are not me or anyone, but they are a part of me, a part of my programming as a human being, as my identity, just as everything else we experience is a accumulation of who we are.
Went thru high school in the 70's . This music with good friends hanging out makes me feel sorry for what kids have to listen to today,no soul in today's music.
Very disagreeable. Again what you’re doing is basing your point off of nostalgia and entitlement. And believe or not, there is still soul and emotion in today’s music. But it probably isn’t your taste. It doesn’t mean it’s bad.
Born in -58, I remember all of these songs, had most of them on a cassette, great music. You just have to love the 70's disco and ABBA of course. Happy days !
I was born in 72 but remember very well the music of those days and going roller skating etc. In the 70's all the music was good like Rock, heavy rock, Pop even the country in the 70's was good. There was not any music I did not like. Music of 70's and 80's was the best of all times and there will never be good music like in those days.
I grew up in the’ ‘70’s and remember every one of these songs. These were the classics and it helped that I have a sister who was a teen then too. Great times I miss!
Realizing how very fortunate I was to be a teenager in the late 60’s through the 70’s. This was a good summary of mostly pop music, but the real giants were the Beatles, Stones, Led Zeppelin, the Doobie Brothers, the Commodores, Marvin Gaye, Todd Rundgren, Jackson Browne, Hall & Oates, Grand Funk Railroad, Earth Wind & Fire, Three Dog Night, etc. These were the acts packing the stadiums.
Born in 1965 I'm definitely a 70's kid But you forgot a lot of great bands.Led Zeppelin,Pink Floyd,Heart,Peter Frampton,Lynyrd Skynyrd,Foghat,Mountain,Kansas ,The Ozarks Mountain,Gary Wright,Argent,Ted Nugent,ZZ Top,Ac DC, Van Halen,Kiss, Todd Rundgren, Jefferson Starship,The Cars,Meatloaf,Joan Jett,Blonde, Climax blues band. And go list on.
Born in the 50's, grew up in the 60's and 70's. I remember all of these songs when they first came out, (WOW) I am getting old, loved them then and still do today, I must like them, I have 99 out of the 100 in my music library. One thing about growing up in that era was ALL THE INCREDIBLE MUSIC we had, songs from the 60's, even the 50's and the 70's. Listening to the radio was awesome, if you found a good station, because they were playing hit after hit, after hit, after hit, after hit all day long, it was GREAT. Thank goodness I have a pretty extensive music library, I would say from 1955 until 1990 I probably have about 97 or 98% of all the Billboard top 100 songs along with MANY others hits that did not reach number one, but were still great songs, so I am very fortunate and blessed that I can listen to all these AWESOME songs anytime I want to.
Right on Greg, you sound alot like me, use to listen to WKBW-am in the 60's, and then in the 70's went over to FM....still have my records....and I especially love the not so great hits, like you say, they played them on the radio, but they weren't top 10, but still great, I notice MusicChoice Cable TV, sometimes plays alot of the lesser known haven't heard in years tunes.....love 'em.
I always feel a hint of sadness with a lot of music from the 70s. I think because that was my childhood and wish I could go back and live it all again, making better decisions in life hopefully.
I spent my pre-teen and teen age years in the 70s. Sooooo much great music of so many genres, radio pop, soul, folk, disco, rock ! Looking back and listening to this makes me glad I was alive for it. I’m 65 now. Thanks for putting this together.
Awesome list. Growing up in the U.S. in the 70's, ten of these songs would be Barry Manilow, seven Billy Joel, seven the Eagles, five from Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, five KC and the Sunshine band, five Zeppelin, five Stones, five James Taylor, five Chicago, five the Carpenters... and everybody else would round out the hundred.
Very incorrect. Music today still has heart and soul, and it sounds like you’re falling into that same mentality that every person in this comment section has. It’s just your taste. It doesn’t mean it’s bad. There are still many great musical hits today and you’re just saying that just to make yourself feel good in the decade you were raised in. Also, saying only THIS music back then had heart and soul? Please. Classical music probably did it better. 70s probably did theirs differently.

Such a wonderful time for being a kid and it's like that music was the soundtrack for our carefree, innocent lives. 😌 I so wish that we could go back in time and relive those wonderful years without the problems that come with adulthood. 😫😖🤬 Somebody needs to invent a time machine where we could go back where we could be young again and relive those incredible memories! 😊 Sigh. 😒
999998% agree
@@graphite2786 I was born in '65 too. I was gonna post a comment but you pretty much said it all.
Its funny cause I wish I was alive in the 80s

Omg what a sheer nostalgia blast. I was born in 59 and these are the songs that played all through my formative years. It’s funny how so many of them triggered beautiful memories and an innocence that is long gone. How I wish I was back then and without the need to have the knowledge I have today. This was my favourite era for sure.
Why do you feel the knowledge is a bad thing for you. I’m 53 and I’m starting to be sorry I know or have seen so much. I think it makes us very mistrusting of others and scares us away from too many things.
I'm 1959 too.
1959! My peeps.
Me too...being born in 1959 led to the greatest teenage years in the 1970s. I miss those days and would go back in a heart beat.

Amazingly, this list didn't even scratch the surface.
Ya' got that right. I was thinking the same. And if I was going to put an Eagles tune on the list it'd certainly be Hotel California.

A little dose of nostalgia goes a very long way, brilliant stuff, I was born in 1963 and these songs are the soundtrack of my life.
It would be so hard to make a top 100 song list of the 1970's - so much great music!!
It would be harder to do one from 2012-2022....you won't find enough songs to put on the list
Top 100? I could probably do a top 1,000, born 63 growing up with my folks playing 50/60/70’s music but 70’s definitely my favourite,it brings back memories of those lazy hazy summer days, leave home in the morning, not eating until we got home for tea. I really wish I could go back😢.
Oh those were the days! Music was just simply good, so much talent.
And the variety of music was good too.
I think my mom raised me right! I’m only 18 and I know like ~80 of these songs by heart

Hello
No surprise how many titles were covered in the 90s and 2000's. Quality music never will die.
This could be 1000 songs easily. The 70's was when hard rock, punk and disco started. The Beatles just broke up, Elvis was still alive and so many great songs were written worldwide. Yes, I was a teenager in the 70's.
I remember the day elvis died, the lady across the road was heartbroken 💔 Norma Brown.
70s really was the best even if disco became little bit too big, among hits there where rock, disco, punk, soul, ballads, all kinds of music. Hip hop/rap I think was created at the end too.
Born in 1958. I came of age I the 70's nothing better.✌🌻🌻
I was a kid in the 70s . 5 years old 1970 , 14 years old 1979 . Music was the best I was able to listen to 50s , 60s and 70s . FM radio happened in the 70s was cool 😎😎😎😎😎😎😎
I remember listening to radio Caroline at night in bed on my transistor radio. Amazing memories. Born in 1965 also. X
One year younger. You are so right!

I am so glad I got to experience three of the best decades of music. The 70's for sure, the 80's and 90's!
Don't forget 60's
60's, 70's
Anything before 2000 awesome after junk

The 70s was THE BEST, most original, and diverse decade for music
So much variety, so many styles, so many unique voices. Music had heart and soul back then - something that's sorely missing today.
70s probably did theirs differently.
although i've been born in mid 80's, music from 60,70, 80's grew to my heart quite quickly. definitely one of three best decades of music imho.
