- I've been driving and using the truck for a couple months. You see the truck exactly as I've been using it so it's a little dirty. Sorry it took me so long to get an updated video to my subscribers!
That’s a sweet truck! I am almost finished restoring my 87 K30 Army truck with a LS swap. I can appreciate all the hard work.
Beautiful.
I love the engine bay. Super organized.
Thanks man. I hate nasty engine bays. I keep trying to clean it up more here and there with zip ties lol
That is the nicest looking truck I have ever seen
Dude thats a hell of a compliment! Thanks man. A lot of people don't like our taste but its my dream truck!
Jacob Savage Yeah man, I’ve shown a few guys up here in Northern Ontario, they all said the same thing, one guy wants to build one pretty similar to that
Great job on this build! I can't wait to get mine up and running.
Thanks man!
Definitely worth it good job bud looks amazing
Look's really good! Congratulations on getting it done!
Thanks dude! You are my best supporter on here!
really like the classic look going with the 70s front end
Thanks. I like the "roundeye" look a lot better.
Jacob Savage my dad has a 90 suburban with the newer style front end with the rectangle lights i like both.
Very very nice job. Love it. My ocd keeps seeing that body line gape on the passenger side hood an fender. I'll be happy if mine turns out this nice.
Great job hoss!!!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Awesome work!
Well I just watched the whole square body series! I hope to do this someday after college! Love the rig though man!
Thanks man! 😁 I hope there was some good info in there. I should figure out how to make a playlist on here so they all play in order lol
@@SAVAGEPATRIOT oh they played fine and yes there was good stuff about sound deadening (very necessary for this swap). You are only making me want to get a pickup and start the teardown.
Im defiantly going to swap a cummins into my 81 k20. That is an awsome truck boss!! The perfect work/play truck!!
Yea its the perfect truck for hunting, cutting firewood and even going to the hardware store lol
That’s a truck to be proud of, as I’m sure you are.
Nice chevy Cummins you have a good reliable combo
Really nice truck!!!!!! I’m currently trying to purchase one similar to it.. only difference is that it’s a dually!!! I’m an ol Cowboy myself and would really like to see vids of you putting it to work hauling hay or horses etc!! Awesome truck again!!!
I need to do another update. Since I've added a 75 gallon fuel tank/toolbox combo that hauls my chains, staps and a Stihl 046. I my spare now goes on the side and I have a old snapon toolbox on the driver side. It's been awesome. Last year hauling hay I weighed 31,440 heavy (truck and trailer) and it did great. I was just going from my dad's field to a dairy about 10 miles away and there are no grades but it did great! I need to have my wife run the camera and put up a video of at least driving around lol.
Jacob Savage how is it on fuel ? In town n on the highway? Wow with the addition of the tank.. a fill-up between it and the trucks fuel tank that should last u quite some time!!! Dude that’s impressive as hell but then again not surprising because you’ll be able to pass that powerful 12 valve down to your kids especially with all the work you’ve done to it.. And yea man if your wife wouldn’t mind lol I’d definitely like to see some vids of the ol 12 valve Workn!!!
Great build.
I like you're dip stick handle
Only cummins in town with a spark plug ;)
Beautiful truck, man!
Thanks Jonas!
Wow that’s a ton of work! Well done. I live near Lehi and just picked up a crew cab with a utility box on back. Hoping to ditch the box and build a flat bed. But I know it’s a lot of work 😬
Is it a dually by chance?
@@SAVAGEPATRIOT it is a dually yes. I’d love to check yours out sometime if you’re close
Are those 35s? Looks BEAUTIFUL!!! I wanna get something similar but a suburban
Yes awesome truck I still think the 73 to 80 is the best looking front end and plenty of room
I love your truck man! I have a 1984 K5 Blazer with a 6.2 diesel. She is a project and I was wondering if you could maybe put up links or shoot me some info on where you got some parts for your truck
Could’ve sworn I saw this truck in southern Oregon the other day down at my work
Nope lol
Turned out really nice ! 💪👍🏼
Not sure if you mentioned it but you should tint the windows lol
Nice build 👍💪
Only thing I would do is make it a dump bed 🤔😎
I thought about it but I ended up mounting a tank and toolboxes on the bed.
Sick truck dude I'm swapping a cummins into my 95 gmc and I could use a few pointers!
😂 do it right the first time. Don't do it once, regret it and do everything over again to make it nice. Start tracking down hard to find parts first so your not scrambling later. Hydroboost, adapters, whatever solid front axle you might want if your going 4x4. Ect.
Looks great! Very nice work!
Thanks
Sweet crew cab squarebody
Thanks!
What length is your bed? Did you convert to a short or kept the long bed?
Nice! Thanks
Sweet truck Jacob!
Are you running a dodge 2nd gen radiator and inner-cooler?
Yea, if your able to see my other videos I put one on here of the core support and radiator and intercooler.
Thanks Jacob!, I found it and shared it on Facebook. Excellent work. I have a v3500 too and want to use the 73-79 front end.
Now that’s a truck
Thats right!
Wondering how much cutting did you have to do on your firewall
A Chevy Silverado Cummins turbo diesel powered 5.9L intercooler in-line 6 cylinder engine., 4x4, 5-speed manual transmission and clutch.
Looks bad ass! Doing the same swap on an 84 3+3 dually.
Thanks buddy!
My husband Ronnie Trujillo is just about finished with his swap. Running exhaust, and a few other minor things. Curious with an 84 dually (4x2) Cummins swapped with a 47RH auto would pulling about 10K worth of fifth wheel be out of its ability?
Was your truck a 4x4 to start? I’m looking at one that’s a 2wd and I’m trying to decide if it’s worth the conversion.
Mine was a 4x4. There are lots of options to convert to 4x4. I think Cutbrothers and diy4x both make bracket kits to make bolting in leaf springs easy. You will already have a 2wd steering box which is what you need if your considering crossover or high steering. Also i think the 2wd trucks have a lower transmission hump, i dont know what implications that may have on stuffing your desired transmission in, but the way my nv4500 fit i dont know if a 2wd would have worked or not.
Can you tell me more about the alt and it’s brackets and ac setup?
Cool video, what did it take to convert the front clip to the old style?
Fenders, hood, wiper arm posts, and a shit load of body shims and patience 😂
Bad ass truck...daaammmm....id take that over a new cgevy ford or dodge anyday
Incredible rig would appreciate a wear update on those tires for us financially handicapped individuals looking to go bigger without bankrupting our efforts, thanks...
Junk, don't buy em unless you have a light truck under 5000 lbs. Heavy trucks burn them out in 8 months.
nice
She's beautiful
Thank you!
Clean swap! Did you have custom A/C lines made? And are you using the stock hvac blower fan and cage?
Yes stock AC and a Sanden 509 compressor on Auto world MT brackets and coustom lines made
I think there is another video of it on here
Lol, this bed is design for pre 97 ford truck, since 2 gas tanks hole are showing.
Winner! I bought the bed used from a guy who had built it for a older power stroke. Very well built. I bought it cheaper than I could have gotten the steel to build one myself.
I'm digging that front bumper might do that to my truck!
Thanks. I didn't really know how it was gonna turn out but I like it.
What are your thoughts with going with the B52's and 5 inch pro comp lift as far as the ride quality goes? I am trying to decide whether I want to go that route or stick with the stock length springs for the weight of the Cummins. I was thinking about going with a 33" or 35" tire so I think I could maybe get some stock HD rear 52" springs with a B-52 kit to make that work. But if you don't think the ride is as good as stock length front springs under a Cummins then I wont go that route. I also considered getting custom HD springs made by Alcan. Thanks, Sean.
Any time you get a longer spring the ride is dramatically improved as was mine going from 48" to 52". The ultimate setup would be the B52 kit with custom Alcan springs. To save money Id probably go with a HD rear spring pack up front with the B52 kit and remove the overload springs. My setup my ride quality is about as good as you can get with a heavy ass front clip, winch and cummins. It rides better than most new one ton pickups and about the same as a newer 2500 chevy.
What tanks did you use? Just getting into my swap now looking for a build list cant find much on tanks
Hey Jacob- quick question. I have an 88 gmc crew cab and am getting ready to drop my 5.9 in. I see that you didn't run your fan and I assume you have twin electric fans? So question is, you have your radiator, intercooler, electric fans, but where did you put your a/c condenser? Is it on top of your fans ?
AC condenser in front of intercooler. Running stock Dodge Cummins fan in custom fan shroud.
@@SAVAGEPATRIOT 😎 thanks for the info!
Only questions I would have since I’m doing a Cummins swap is the alternator and air conditioner. You use dodge or Chevy? Bought mounts or custom? Thanks
Autoworld Mt brackets. I got the GM R4 style ac mount and modified it slightly to run a Sanded 507 compressor. I used the GM alternator mount that puts it on driver side and I used a Powermaster 1 wire 200A alternator.
I think there is a video I put up showing this in detail.
Jacob Last I seen those brackets are damn expensive.
How's the front suspension been working out so far? With the 4.11's, are you wishing for a 6 speed over the 5?
Steve Greene as I understand it, the final gear in a 5 speed is the same ratio as the final gear in the 6 speed. The same is true for the first.
Suspension has been absolutely incredible. Rides better or as good as a stock 3/4 ton diesel. I love the 4:10 gears. Plenty of speed. I can cruise 80 on the freeway. I do want to upgrade to the NV5600 6 speed, but because the 6 speed has 3 gears (2nd,3rd,4th,) where the nv4500 only has 3rd if that makes sense. 1sr, 4th and 5th are the same as 1st 5th and 6th. The closer gears make towing easier.
@@smallblockfuelie thank you!
@@SAVAGEPATRIOT Thank you!
Nice 👍
I have a 1982 chevy k20 I want to build it into a good hunting truck what size lift are ya running? I found a 70 model chevy truck in the parts yard that's 2wd if I can get that truck I can pull the body off of it and put it on my 82 frame ( the body of my 82 sits on a 1976 chassis ) with a 350 and a 4 speed whould that make a good series?
Heck yea the 350 chev and SM465 4 speed are legendary combination. I thing my lift sits around 6" but I cant be sure.
@@SAVAGEPATRIOT thanks I will look into that where I live you might need some ground clearance to go hunting maybe when I get the money I might go get a 1976 chevy army truck to play around with
How much did you spend to do the swap?
Can you do a video on what wires you hooked up from the bulkhead to the engine
The only wires going to the engine from the bulk head is the temp sensor and oil pressure wires.
What part of Utah are you in? I've got two 80s cummins crew cabs and a 78 cj-5 haha
Richfield
@@SAVAGEPATRIOT no way! Hey are you on Facebook or Instagram? I've got a few questions for you.
@@decentgarage both but I don't use the instagram much. Facebook me
@@SAVAGEPATRIOT not finding you on there. Add me. Tim stevenson. My profile pic is my silver crew cab.
Do you think I could take a dodge 3500 frame with a 24 valve cummins and put the 84 chevy cab from my chevy one ton and put it on that frame?
Yea a few people have done that. Upfront it's a lot more fabrication and work but then you don't have to worry about suspension, drive train, mounts, steering ect which is a big advantage. The down side is you have to adapt your brake system and clutch pedals ect. But it is possible
@@SAVAGEPATRIOT I thought about that cause my grandpa told me he bent the rear end of the frame sadly. Better to be safe than sorry
@@SAVAGEPATRIOT I'm also debating converting it to a crew cab. But it be a short bed dually
This is my dream truck man! Love it! I’m guessing it was originally a C30 and you re did the front end?
It was actually a V3500 dually 4x4!
How did you run the exhaust. I put a 1994 12 valve in 86 Silverado, exhaust hits firewall. Did you change manifold or something
I used stock manifold and made a custom 4" downpipe with better clearance. You can use a newer 24v manifold for mucho clearance as it moves the turbo forward and rotates it down as well.
@@SAVAGEPATRIOT thanks bud! I'll post a video soon. I'll comment back on here when I do. Never done a video before.
Hood stack bud
@@ethanutter7971 only imagine how loud and annoying that would be to drive
Well I can't afford a new truck so I am gonna put a cummins in my 1984 chevy c30 is there a way to fit a 5.9 to a sm465?
Yes, the 5.9 Cummins that came in a lot of bread box vans where bolted to gm transmissions. You need the box van bellhousing. The only downside is they put either the motor or transmission on a 6 degree angle rotated.
@@SAVAGEPATRIOT i might not cummins swap it I've been debating selling it I'm not sure yet
Damn you were suppose to run the motor so I can be able to hear the sound of diesels running. Duh.
Witch one whould you pick a 1975-76 grill or the 1977-1980 grill?
Personally I like the 76 and earlier style with the headlight bezels separate from the signal lights. I don't really have a preference on the actual grille.
77 and 78 are the same exactly but a 79 has trim around the headlights and a 80 is totally different. im a big fan of the 77-78 with the stainless ribs stuck on it.
Good looking truck brother who did the swap
Thanks I did it all myself!
How did you hook up the dual tanks
Haha not very well. It kept siphoning from the right to the left tank. It was a headache. One would be bone dry and one would be overflowing. I should have just used a manual marine switch valve. Since this video I have gotten a large transfer tank that sits on the bed and feeds fuel. 80 gallon tank gives me good SHTF range.
I'm getting to do a 82 Chevy daully Cummins swap. Did you have any problem with the fire wall hitting the engine.
No, it will fit, but I did flatten the crimp/weld seam with a hammer just to give me an extra 1/2".
Whered u get ur motor mounts to put the 12v in?
@@LamzLamz714 summit sells them for 200. Dollars
Shoot no way..thanks for tje info
@@LamzLamz714 they also sell the drop-down cross member
What is the purpose of the spark plug on top of the motor ?
Haha it's just a joke. The end of my dipstick fell off so I needed to weld a new one on. Now I say need to check the spark plugs and I pull the dipstick out. Or Ill say it's the only cummins in town with a spark plug lol
@@SAVAGEPATRIOT haaa haa! Hilarious ! And here i was researching it up! I was trying to figure out why you had that. Amatures!
Is egt exhaust gas tempature?
Yes
Is it for sale?
Sorry its not
Can we see a driving video?
Yes soon I will lol
Steel ( not ) beadlocks. I hate those rims because the manufacture misleads buyers into thinking they are beadlocks. I made the mistake of buying a set for my x wife's jeep.
These are real steel headlocks made by battleborn wheels. They are the 17" Gatekeeper. They lock the outside bead of the tire. I mounted them myself. You put the tire on and then the outer ring goes on and you sequentially tourque all 32 bolts down tight. I do like the look too, and I have a set of "street locks" simulated beadlocks on my wife's 16 Silverado.
Either way, sick rig. After I'm done with my shoe box suburban I know a farmer with a crew cab 3500 behind his barn and I'm sure he will sell it cheap
@@highoctain113 thanks man. You better get it bought! Lol those crew cabs have a way of getting sniffed out and sold quick.
If I was you I would I would put a light bar on the top of the flat bed
I've thought about it. I actually have a prototype light bar built. It has two 6" KC lights on each side and two 24" light bars stacked in the middle.
What a sissy truck, shoulda just got a Nissan or Volkswagen.
Just joking, love it.
Could you tell me where to find those headlights?
Thanks
LOL not much plastic on this old girl like the newer sissy trucks. I used Vision X H4 headlight housings from headlight revolution. Bulbs are Hella 90 watt H4 off road bulbs. And I used a Ebay heavy duty headlight harness.
Would you sell it?
Thanks but unfortunately no.
I give ya 40 k for it🤠🤓😎🤗✌
