Thanks for the video! I really enjoy seeing this truck and hearing about it. I spent some time this past weekend getting my donor 5.9 stripped down and learning a bit more about it. It's going to replace the 454 in my '98 K3500 crew cab dually with NV4500.
Love your truck. I got a 1987 square body Dually regular cab 4x4 pickup I’m wanting to swap the 454 to a Cummins 5-speed now. Your truck seems to do very well.
I used to hammer down those roads all the time in my little Subaru Impeza. I had that daily commute from Red Feather to Fort Collins. Rounding a turn on CR 76 at 60mph and hitting washboards will leave your butt puckered up for the next mile or two.
Gear vendors overdrive, very tough. Years back I was in a money bind and had to sell my one ton 4 door. Never got to do the 12valve switch over. In the future I will look for another and do like you did.
Love the truck! I’ve got a 97 K2500 I’d love to do a 12 Valve/NV4500 swap to replace the 350/4L80E. I considered buying a newer truck to tow with, but upgrading mine and keeping some cash in my pocket is sounding better and better every day.
The GMT400 series trucks are one of GMs best! I will never get rid of my 92. Ordered it from the factory just the way I wanted it and it has been the toughest most trouble free truck. A Cummins swap would be even more trouble free. Gunna need some upgrades on the torsion bars to handle the weight but that would be so much better than a new truck with so many gadgets that always will fail at some point. Good luck
@@goingofftherails9877 Awesome! would love to see a video of your '92. And yep, I got tired of my newer trucks always having some kind of electronic sensor annoying me or prohibiting me from using all of my truck's "tech" features, so I was happy with my roll up windows and manual transfer case on the 2500!
Definitely will have to keep my eyes out for you and the caboose whenever I'm poking around up north, glad to see you're in CO! Really great build and you did an awesome job elaborating on it in your other video! Those AFC modules are a great tuning tool for the 12v; just drove a truck with one a few weeks ago and was impressed. Very jealous of your rig to say the least! Would love to have an older conversion truck such as that
Hadyn. Thanks. I love my afc live. I can keep it tamed down until I need to pass someone and with the flick of a switch I can be around them in a flash. Its not a race truck but its crazy how much more fun it is to drive than the 454 was. Thanks for watching
Nice. This is pretty much my dream truck. I already have a 1st gen Dodge as a donor; now I need to find a crew square body to put it in. Did you cut the firewall?
Sweet. No I didn't have to cut any of the firewall but I did have to manipulate it with a big hammer. Pound the pinch weld over and beat the firewall up to make room for the bell housing. The heavy steel firewall is malleable but it takes a lot of beating.
Awesome truck !!! cant get enough of it.This is the truck these cummins engines should have been in from the factory.. I have the same truck with the same factory colors but in a dually and it has a 454 but fuel mileage is just not reasonable at 6 mpg towing 10000 lbs. trailer , I was gonna ask you about the gear ratio in your diffs, but you answered it in this video.... my truck has 4:56's and I was worried that it would be geared too low for a cummins engine at highway speeds.... Do you Think a GEAR VENDOR high / low gearbox would work good? instead of changing differential gear ratio? just curious if you look into this option . thanks.... looking forward to more clips of your beautiful truck, Have Great Holiday !!
KB DiStasio. Thanks and yes I have considered getting a gear vendor. It is a considerable expense either way to change gearing. Changing diffs is easier and is better for me because I don't tow heavy loads very often. Towing heavy with gears so far apart might not be too pleasant . Would be better to use overdrive set up but that ;means more driveline modifications and an oil cooler for the gear vendor plus the expense of purchasing the unit. I might just put taller tires on my truck and call it good enough, but I haven't decided yet. Thanks for the complement !
yes it is possible to fit a cummins without cutting the firewall. However I had to beat on the pinch weld till it was flat and then beat some more to move the firewall metal back into the cab just a little. The metal is malleable and can be manipulated if you have a strong wrist and a steady hand. Took me about 4-6 hours to get it right. Thanks for watching
Off Road Design. Sent them the weight of front and rear scale numbers and what kind of lift and ride I wanted. Custom built to fit my parameters. I LOVE the ride of my truck now. Still caries the weight of my trailers but give a greatly improved ride.
Samuel. I used the existing speedo cable that attached to the existing np205 transfer case. The truck did not have a tach so I ordered one from Geno's Garage that had magnets that I epoxied to the harmonic balancer and strapped the gage to the steering column
Hey Mr. Hendrix, can you please explain how you fixed your cruise control? I am doing a Cummins swap on my 73 Chevy C30 crew cab and I would love to use the cruise option. Thanks Mate!
The original speedometer was attached to my np205 transfer case. So it was easy ... just hooked it back up however is was a tight fit because the transfer case was moved back 4 inches.
The headliner 👌🏼
That interior is beautiful.. that top piece👏👏👏
this is my dream daily driver I'm envious of you for that lol
Nice truck. Besides the obvious (great drivetrain) I love the hood ornament. That’s what I miss most about those older cars and trucks.
You and me both! Thanks
I think the camera had a little much to drink
delicious spiked eggnog !
Going off the Rails what transmission are you using
Awesome man!!!
I want a Cummins in a Suburban.... basically same thing....
thanks for the video!
Awesome life...
It looks cool Chevy pickup

I love them old diesel trucks.Old faithful you got there!
Sweet truck mate! It doesn’t sound overly loud inside the cab too which is nice. Especially for a daily driver.

Love the truck, that’s how you swap a square body right there
BADASS truck!
Beautiful truck and Beautiful scenery.!
Hopefully I can get my v30 set up like yours!! Gotta save the money though
Very cool
Nice machine .love square body GM's
I think your truck is badass
You said you were going to flip the switch.
What does the switch do?
Super nice swap.
Thanks for sharing.
Lots of good info.
Nice rig. I am in the process of swapping a 12 valve p pump in a 1993 K2500 Suburban.
Nice 👍
beautiful interior in that truck.
Is that the GMC transmission in there or did you do a dodge manual?

Muy buena troka y no se diga el motor!! El mejor!!
gracias

355 was perfect in mine. I have the same truck

@@goingofftherails9877 Thanks! That's what I was hoping to hear.
Thinking about doing this in my 84 suburban and have a complete first gen donor 2wd, what 4wd Auto trans should I go with?
Nice truck. It's a keeper.

How’s the turning radius lol
Very nice. Only question I got is what kind of fuel mileage do you get dailying this thing? Thanks.
I get 17-18 typically but have done better on country roads going about the 60
Nice truck man.
I dont think my old 1500 ram would've took the cattle rails that well
What engine did that truck have originally?
It had a TBI 454 with a SM465 Manuel Transmission
How did you get the motor in there without cutting the firewall? 😱
yes it is possible to fit a cummins without cutting the firewall. Reminds me of the grand mesa colo area !
just south of the Wyoming border in Colorado
@@goingofftherails9877
Okay I can see that.....you got a Good rig there! Hello from SWColo where the Ute Mountains head dress is often our sunset!
I have an idea on how to fix you cruse controll just clamp a set of vice grips on your trouble cable
Nice!
What springs did you use for the front end?
Alcan springs in Grand Junction CO. custom made for the trucks weight and use. Highly recommend them
good looking truck and love that diesel sound. Are you filming with your phone or a go pro?
hey cuz... yes I'm filming on a go pro and a cheap video camera . Thanks for the compliment. Some day I will upgrade my camera and video quality
So I’m gonna assume you retired the 92 that was on Tfl awhile back?
still drive it. Its my backup truck now
Leave the 410 gwars...run it at 2000 rpm....most factory trucks tack 1900 to 1950 at 70 to 75....leave it alone🤠✌😎🤓
What springs did you get?
Off Road Design. Sent them the weight of front and rear scale numbers and what kind of lift and ride I wanted. Custom built to fit my parameters. I LOVE the ride of my truck now. Still caries the weight of my trailers but give a greatly improved ride.
What did you do for your speedometer and rpm gauge ?
Samuel. I used the existing speedo cable that attached to the existing np205 transfer case. The truck did not have a tach so I ordered one from Geno's Garage that had magnets that I epoxied to the harmonic balancer and strapped the gage to the steering column
hit me up if you want info on how to do the cruise, I have a 87 cummins swap that I used the factory cruise with some dodge parts too
yes Jimi, that is a option I would love to add to my truck someday. Thanks for offering your knowledge about cruise control.
Hey Mr. Hendrix, can you please explain how you fixed your cruise control? I am doing a Cummins swap on my 73 Chevy C30 crew cab and I would love to use the cruise option. Thanks Mate!
Would you do this build again for money?
You could try finding a six speed
If you ever want to sell this truck. Let me know
Is very quiet my truck i have to Fix that Lada noisy
Bad to the bone how much you want
How did you get the speedometer to work?
The original speedometer was attached to my np205 transfer case. So it was easy ... just hooked it back up however is was a tight fit because the transfer case was moved back 4 inches.
