- Whiteside airport in Illinois sponsored a pre-Oshkosh fly-in where I was able to fly the Lockheed Electra that was in the movie Amelia. Such a cool iconic plane!

What an amazing piece of history that plane is. And the Electra was pretty cool too! LOL Seriously, I think it's awesome that you bring some of that kind of aviation history to your viewers who can enjoy it just as much as you seem to. What a neat airplane! I've flown some Beech 18s, but the Lockheed 12 is a "holy grail," what an elegant airplane. Thanks for taking a fellow 310 pilot along for that beautiful flight.

Always have wanted to fly in a Lockheed Electra. Love Amelia Earhart an her courageous attitude. Thanks for showing what it would be like.
😮Hard to think about, would be the 19 hours she spent cramped up in that thing at night over the Pacific trying to stay awake , pick Howland Island out of 7,000 miles of ocean - the noise of those Twin Wasps, the worries over headwinds and fuel consumption, the ever present possibility of engine failure.........not an enviable position.Plus - she had no way of knowing , (and film clips seem to show) when she horsed it off the ground at Lae , New Guinea, she tore the receiving trailing antenna out from under the plane and lost her ability to communicate with the Coast Guard cutter Itasca - they could only listen helplessly,as she missed the island and vanished.
When you see a Lockheed it draws you in begging to fly it. Maybe someday!
I got to fly on an Electra years ago when stationed at Norton AFB in San Bernardino Ca. ,got to sit in the right seat, we flew up over the mountains and Big Bear lake it was about an hr flight .It was awesome !! Very cool airplane !!!

Im not a pilot yet. I love riding in panes that have history behind them. I saw 1bc parked at OSH never caught up with you guys. This year at OSH I was getting my wife talking to other wives of pilots. Im getting her on board to building a plane. Thanks for your videos with Jamie. It really helps me show Sheila how much fun can be had with owning our own plane.
That was so cool to see Whiteside County Airport. As a kid I used to ride my bicycle around the county. So neat to see this event. Love the history lesson.
I was there seen N771BC sitting on the ramp but never ran into you Kevin, oh well maybe next time. Glenn and his wife was gracious enough to give my father and me a ride in that Lockheed and wow what an amazing aircraft it is for sure. Thanks for keeping the audio in around ARR. Its helping me get a better idea how to talk to my favorite Class D airport hiding under the Class B shelves. My local Class D controllers can be a hoot, most recently asking if I needed oxygen at 9,500 FT when I asked for flight following (he was kidding).

What an awesome treat getting to ride in an Electra, sooooooooo jealous! Was at Oshkosh in 2014 when there were seven Electra's there, it was truly a sight to behold.

Amelia's flying group is the 99's, of which my mother was a charter member of the local chapter. When Amelia first put out a call to women who wanted to learn to fly, 99 women showed up-thus the 99's! They perform the Powder Puff Derby, the All Women's Transcontinental Air Race.
Proud 99 here! I'd love to do the Air Race Classic at some point.
I don't think Jamie would have enjoyed that departure, lots going on!

When I saw the Electra I immediately thought it was like my old Navy SNB-5 that I was plane captain of in 1959. The cockpit did not look anything like an SNB-5 and probably not like it did originally. What I wanted to see was you taxi and park that tail wheel!😀 How many times I would get frustrated trying to get those young pilots parked. The older pilots knew how to handle the tail wheel using the engines more than the brakes. Once you loose it, you are in trouble and the nerves kick in, especially at night with me running backwards directing you! I was 18, but loved old 123 (tail #) one of my three planes that I attended at Naval Air Station, Monterey CA. She was a beauty!
I was fortunate enough to attend the pre-Oshkosh gathering at Whiteside some years ago when all the DC-3’s were there…what a great time…

Dude, the actual Amelia plane cant be found, so how can he fly it?. The one he had flown isnt even the correct model Electra Amelia had.

I can't get over the number of rivets on the wings of the Electra!
I'd say the Electra is about "20000 rivets flying in formation", as a DC3 is commonly known as "40000 rivets flying in formation"! :)
Safe travels to all! You see stories all the time about bad things and airplanes, we just had a bonanza land on the interstate right by our house the other day. N899RW. Lost oil pressure and engine out moments later. Clipped a truck upon emergency landing. Great vid again!

We’ll Kevin, this video took me back to 1965 when I soloed in a Cessna 170 B taildragger and Whiteside Co. only had the north/south runway. I didn’t get my private until 1972 but when I did I flew the Rock River Valley skydivers for ten years. Would you believe Dan Gryder worked for me at Illinois Bell Telephone Co. before he started his flying career and he also jumped with them. I was going to come up last summer from Tellico Village for this event but my grandson was down from Illinois for the weekend.
I loved seeing you sitting in the right seat of the Electra 10. It reminded me my flight on Collings Foundation's B-25 Tondelayo 5 years ago. I was able to sit behind the pilot and co-pilot. I really enjoy your channel.
Excellent video sir! I was going to fly out there Saturday, but I got called into work. The haze was bad that week! I flew the day before, and found how hard steep turns are in 4 miles vis!
I was there at the ACCA event. It WAS VERY humid. (especially since I"m from Phoenix AZ). It was that way half way through the next at Oshkosh too.

Two electra were used in "Amelia" filming. The main filming was done in South Africa using a french owned Electra.
I had the pleasure of setting in the same seat you did in the Electra when they were at Stearman Field last summer. Enjoyed meeting you there also and drinking the Mexican beer with you after your arrival to Kansas.

Amelia Earhart's transatlantic flight landed near Burry Port Wales about an hour's drive east from where I live. Believe me it's very rarely freaking hot here.

The weather looks nice there. Warm, yes... But.... For the Illinois, not too bad for October... It was 90, but dry in Tucson....

We are leaving Colorado and just bought a small farm in Danville Illinois. Should be there the first week of December. Would be nice to meet you sometime. bro i'am sooo jealous of u kevin to fly all these historic airplanes and having a twin engine urself it is my dream to fly in a small plane but being a power wheelchair it does not work.
That is probably like the feeling I had the first time I ever sat in the drivers seat of an 18 wheeler after driving in a regular car for years.

Great to fly in an old aircraft eh Kevin ? I had a flight some time back in a DH Dragon owned by Aer Lingus historic flight , fuel gauges in the engine cowlings etc , great videos , keep em coming 👍 👌
