Ive got a damaged 195 here thats been sitting for a long time, that makes me want to pull it out of the shed and start working on it again, what a beauty
@@flyingmechanic1 ouch, the infamous “ ground loop”. Damn good reason I fly an archer. I can screw it up in other ways 😂. A few years ago we had a gorgeous 195 here at kmic do a ground loop off the hard pan into the turf strip . He asked the tower if they witnessed that . They graciously said no and he went about his embarrassing taxi back to his hangar. A guy I know in KMNN has a gorgeous 195 as well. There are only two GA tailwheels I would want - a 195 or a 185 sky wagon. Both awesome planes. But at 74 I can bend over my archer wing to fuel it vs climb a ladder. Back to your plane - sure hope you can get that beauty in the air again as they represent aviation history in such a great fashion. 👍👍. Good luck
Gotta love that feeling when all those gremlins come together to make life so much easier. Great video and I loved the C195, been a long time seeing one.
Nice to see you back again Kevin. When I was 14 the airport I was learning to fly from the owner/instructor W.E. Happel had a Cessna 195 with crosswind landing gear. I flew it twice in the air, never attempted a take off or landing.
Glad to see the plane is looking great and with the new software updates that you wanted. You and your wife are one of my favorite couples in aviation on UA-cam. I have been following you for a while now and enjoy your great content. Sorry for being behind on videos but I see you got the airplane and I assume decided to keep your hanger and plane. I though you guys may be moving because of a career change or something else. No matter what you both decide it has been a honor to follow this great channel! God bless you and your family and looking forward to future videos. Safe travels in the air! Thank you so much!
Man, such a difference in IMC! While it's always good to stay sharp and hand fly approaches from time to time, the stress reducing effect of a solid ap really makes a difference. Congrats! Beautiful 195, by the way. I'm totally jealous!
Great to see your video, Kevin. You are a rockstar UA-camr, and much appreciated. Like listening to Paul Harvey back in the day, I’m graciously awaiting, “The rest of the story.”
As a teenager, I had the pleasure of going up in a 195 a few times. A good family friend owned one (N195BG). I believe it's still flying, but under new ownership. It was highly polished bare metal with USAF markings. One of the coolest planes I've flown in. My mom was a bit nervous of GA airplanes, but I remember her going up in it and our friend swinging the yoke over to the right and letting her fly it for a few minutes over UC Davis in northern California. Seeing this one brings back great memories.
Looks a lot like the plane the CFI owned that lived in Pagosa Springs, CO, that used to make teaching videos in it. But this one looks stunning in updates. It is fun to see these antiques updated.
Wow! Kevin, how cool is that? Love flying right seat with you. Amazing new technology all you do is push the buttons and enjoy the flt.. Thanks 771 Bravo Charlie and a great Pilot. See you next time Kevin.
I love aircraft and have since I was a little kid and i have to admit not many capture my love more than a Cessna 195, a pure sweetheart of the skies that will always be a thing of beauty and class.
Kevin, I especially enjoyed this episode. Former owner of N 4336N, a 1947 C 195 w/ X-wind gear, this brought back many good memories. 36N's paint job was identical to the one you were in. When I 1st saw the thumbnail, I had to immediately look for the tail number to make sure it wasn't our "Dirty Sally." Hoping one of these days you can do a full review of this classic beauty.
Yea, what’s going on anyway? Everyone is saying he already sold it, now he’s using it for a west coast trip. Ugh, it’s gone, it’s back, it’s gone bla bla bla. Wish he get rid of the thing and get an Aerostar, it’s same cost of operation and twice as fast and a whole lot less boring to watch.
@@tropicthndr Is it possible that Kevin sold his beautiful 310 to Jimmy on Jimmy's World since Jimmy said in his last video that he was upside down with Mighty Mouse and that he might have to part it out ? ? ?
I had the opportunity to fly in to Oshkosh AirVenture 2019 in a beautiful C-195 which was a great experience. Those beautiful birds sure get a lot of attention.
Avidyne GPS navigators and displays, S-TEC autopilot, and Garmin G5s. I can understand why there were some issues getting it all to work together, and how excited you are that it now does. That 195 is absolutely gorgeous. I wish I had the wherewithal to restore a plane to that condition.
Grew up starting at a C-195 in a neighbor’s garage and lusting after it. I was too young to attempt to buy it, but I dream that I could. Loved that airplane, since it spurred me toward a career in aviation (Pilot then A&P). I still see that airplane in my dreams. Tx!
Lovely part of the USA! Even though I live in the UK, I have an aircraft based at Dacy Illinois 0C0, but due to Covid restrictions and closed borders, have not been able to fly it for two years or more. Hopefully this year! Love the 195!
A few years later, Kentucky Flying Service Mr. Dick (Mother) Malloy one of the FBO's at KLOU had a Stearman that he rented out. I had about 12 hours in it over the course of a year. It was a fun flying machine!
Awesome video man, love that 195 !!!!!!! Hope to see or atleast hear you out here in the west. I have my handheld on every day here at the fire station
Really nice video. It was fascinating looking at that wall of instruments in the old plane. It was beautiful. Not sure if the cameras smooth out the ride more than it is, but 1BC looked rock solid with the new upgrades. Wondered if it was a little scary dropping so low before taking control of the landing? Great job editing.
I was hoping to hear the radial in the 195. Love that sound. My dad had a 195 when I was a kid. Exciting to get stuff working, when not working its always in the back of my mind.
My opinion is the radial engine is the best sounding engine ever, I grew up not far from crop duster field Air Farm Paloalto Louisiana, and the Ag Cat’s would dust all around us of course i rode my bike to the field where they took off, loved the sound of start up and idle!!!
This past summer a b25 Mitchell flew over my farm en route to an air show. It has such a distinct deep tone that really gets your attention! You just don't hear them everyday
Just out of curiosity did that beautiful airplane ever live in Oklahoma . The 195 has been my dream ac. Tim T was a supervisor @ American Airlines in Tulsa and he rebuilt one ( I helped a bit ) but never was able to fly it with him . .Cheers.
I gotcha Kevin, I know exactly what your talking about. I've always thought the Cessna 310's were a solid flying bird and with your new dash I can just. Imagine. Say Kevin, have you heard about "Save The 310"?
It's like, you watch this and wonder if Kevin knows at this point he will eventually sell the plane? I'm guessing not, I assume we will see that edited into a future video. You watch this video and think how can he sell it.
Don't think selling 1BC was ever contemplated until last fall when some unknown event(s) caused that decision to be made...do not believe their West Coast Swing happened either...I doubt that Kevin recouped all the money he invested in the upgrades when he reportedly sold it in Dec.
Kevin, hate to say it but I think the 195 is prettier than the 310 lol....that's a dream plane for me once the kids are gone, assuming I can fit in it.
I really wish you had spent more time with video from the 195. But, if you do get the opportunity to go flying again with him in that airplane, a full video of it would be awesome. Way back in the late 70s, early 80s, I had a couple of opportunities to ride, unfortunately not fly, in a Stearman. Pilot back then was in his 80s, having taught the Wright Brothers how to fly, and couldn't hear a word you said from so many hours flying behind radials with no headsets. A Stearman doesn't 'take off', it levitates off of the ground. Once the tail wheel comes up, it's like an elevator, it just continues to climb. It is the most docile and comfortable airplane in the air. The engine is something to listen to, especially if you don't have a headset to muffle it out, but I recommend only for short periods of time. You've got some tail dragger time. I learned to fly in a Cessna 150 and a couple of Piper Cherokees, but one of my favorite airplanes to fly in is a J3 Cub, especially in the summer time, down at 500' AGL, with the doors open. Richard Bach (Jonathan Livingston Seagull, and other aviation books) talks about that, over the midwest corn fields, and while I was flying in New England along the coastline, it really is the same sense. You are at peace with the world, you're not going all that fast (you can barely keep up with the traffic on the interstate if the wind is wrong) and it's just an amazing way to fly. I hope you and Jaime are doing well. Of course, we'd all like to know what's going on with you, but I also know you'll let us know in due time. In the meantime, thanks for these videos.
Nice video ! Is there a reason why you don't sync your fuel flow ? I can see there is one engine that drinks more than the other. I am only a single engine private pilot...
On your west coast "swing", come to wine country!!! Napa and Sonoma county airports are wonderful! I would be honored to take you to dinner if you come to STS!

You should get a Stearman checkout. Makes flying every other airplane a walk in the park. I have about 250 hours in one, unfortunately had to give it up because of operating costs.
Maybe Kevin has sold his 310 to Jimmy on the Jimmy's World Channel since Jimmy was saying in his last video that he is in the hole with old Mighty Mouse, his barn find 1957 310 that hadn't flown in over 37 years and that he may end up having to part it out.
