I started using blender when I was like 15-16 because I really wanted to get into 3D animation. Learning 3D from the ground up was a nightmare on its own, but adding in blender's janky 2.72 UI just made things worse. Your older videos were essential in making all of that a little more inviting because you explained everything with excruciating detail and went as slow as a turtle. That was about 9-10 years ago, and I now know blender like the back of my hand. I know you get tons of comments like this but your older stuff was a huge jumpstart for me, so thanks for that.

Love that your Blender interface is actually viewable. Some people just like to keep their interfaces (Blender/Unity/etc....) at defaul or somehow so small - like it's for ants to view.

Colin u won't believe but I used to watch your videos 8 years ago now I'm back again. You were the reason I learn blender and u taught me. Back in blender 2.7 days there were no other channels that made your quality of in depth tutorial. I always liked your intro with the white keyboard but this intro is good as well.
One suggestion please work on your thumbnail. Because that's the first thing people click on your video. You have awesome in depth tutorial but if people aren't clicking on it how they will know what they are missing.

At 1:00:30 if you still can't select mesh objects in pose mode I recommend pressing alt + z while in pose mode. This helped me when I couldn't select meshes in pose mode even though I followed BornCG's directions. Happy rigging!

GREAT tutorial - I learned and relearned so much. nice easy steps to set up a beginning but also steady rig for a character. Thank you!

Trying to download it now but it's going slow. I desperately need this. I respect Ryan King Art and I mastered unwaping, select over lap and adding a paintable image to a material but he changes his view to B Bones and I only use this kind. It is so tedious to animate every bone. Even if I master this I need to learn how the data keeps on export and import. Last night I had success in importing a fully painted and basic poseable model. I'm getting closer to having 20 models in a scene with reasonable poly counts.

i have been so lost on how to approach the bones in a model I am making, and wasn't sure if I'd ever get the hang of it. Glad I came across your video - it helped me a lot!! I watched and read several tutorials but yours was the clearest and easiest to follow. I learned a lot!

I wasn't able to select bones while in weight paint mode, the shortcut for Blender 4.0+ has been changed ctrl+shift+left click

Great tutorial, quite well explained and very understandable..., but I have a doubt, or I think I'm missing something..., when you apply the Ik on the hand..., you only have the bone of the forearm selected..., but for the foot, you select the bone created for the IK and also the calf bone..., because in one case only one bone is selected and in the other 2..., have I missed something...? , thanks for the tutorial and un Saludo.

So if i only need to link my model's mesh to the armature, do I still need to set IK for my models?

I feel like such a noob everytime I watch your videos. You're really good! I only knew 3dstudio max years ago. This is so much different. I downloaded a rig and model and it's bones and everything already made and unfortunately my mesh has paint colors that are very light. If I don't sound like a complete idiot. All I'm trying to do is change the pose. The bones are there I want to rotate them and have the arm move where my bones go. So when I export the .fbx file for my game I would have created an animation pose but I still can't get the parts to move accordingly. I think I need to go back and rewatch this again and or your other videos. Since I'm just starting out. Thanks again!

If I want to have IK and FK controls for the arm? I must make 2 arms on different layers and setup?

I just want them to impliment the new rigging/animation nodes that are being proposed in "The Future of Character Animation" blog. Rigging and animation is so painful and unintuitive in blender at the moment I just use Cascadeur which is also free.

I physically can't link the mesh because it says "Bone Heat Weighting: failed to find solution for one or more bones"

I am facing a problem. I created a rig by myself, but when I try to select the whole rig in object mode and try to apply transformation on it, it lags a lot and also in pose mode when I try to move the bones it lags a lot. I have an rtx 3060 and I also tried using rigify meta human which has more bones than my rig but it works fine. I want to know whats the problem.

How do you edit the armature in pose mode after it already has an animation? I tried to open the hands more but it doesn't save and goes back to the way it was.
