    Just wanted to take a second to say thanks. I just used your wisdom on a 2004 Huskee 23HP that was doing the same thing. Reversed the gears and the coupler, and it runs like a new one again. Saved a bunch of cash, and maybe get another bunch of years out of it. Many thanks again !!

    What I've found is while the gear selector cog does wear on the edge, the gear selector drive shaft bushes also wear causing the pinion to be out of alignment. By putting a washer behind the forward drive ring around 1mm thick I've noticed that the gear engages better and doesn't skip anymore.

    I'll give this fix a whirl....there are two variants of this type of trans F/R assemblies...I wont order one because I cant pin down which one I have....so I'll just flip the innards and be done with it! Thanks for verifying my hunch that this is a sound fix.

    My MTD 92 T also skips while driving. I just don't know how to adjust the shift lever so that the transmission does not wear out after the repair

    Questioning that baal bearing placement. shouldn't it contact the spring.

    I mustve put something back together wrong. Flipped all 3 around and I lost forward completely but wow will it back up like a racecar

    So you basically used the good unused sides of each gear? Genius!

    • @randomwrenching
      @randomwrenching  3 роки тому +2

      That's exactly what I did. Brand new gears aren't super expensive, but this repair was as good as new. And no cost in parts.

      No worries, let me know how it goes for ya. Be aware of the shim positions on each side of each gear and get them into the right spots. It's important. 😎👍

    Watching this because my mower makes a big ass clank sound then moves forward for 3 seconds then just goes right out of gear and repeats. My mower is old though so it's hard to tell if I'll be able to find whatever it needs

      Sounds like it might be a similar problem. Let us know what you find...

    I have a similar problem when the front drive belt broke a weird C clip was on the deck and since that my mower doesn't drive forward very fast.

    Do you know the ratio of these transaxles? That is, how many turns of the input/pulley shaft for one full rotation of the axle shaft? I'm thinking of playing around with the pulley sizes to give me more torque up hills and I want to get my calculations right before investing in any new parts.

  • @hansentom50
    @hansentom50 Рік тому +1

    What would cause this trans axle to keep popping the drive belt off when switching forward to reverse and reverse to forward? The transaxle also makes a howling sound now and won't go faster than speed 5 and then I can hear rattling after that

    • @randomwrenching
      @randomwrenching  Рік тому +1

      The sliding sheave pulley that changes speeds can get seized and stop proper speed adjustment. It can also wear the bushing out and rattle quite loudly.

    Is the housing steel? I was going to attempt to weld mine but don't want to go through the hassle of all the setup to find out it's aluminum.

    Hi!Did you swap forward gear with reverse gear? The inner diameter of these gears seems to be different.

    • @randomwrenching

      I've got a 99 16hp MTD 13cd768n678, and the diameter of my forward gear is slightly smaller than the diameter of the reverse gear. So swapping them is unfortunately not possible.

      I ordered a new gear today using the original part-numbers and this is what the list said:
      Fwd gear: PINION 42 T., SM. BORE HOLE
      Reverse gear: PINION 42 T., BIG BORE HOLE
      Which means I wasn't mistaken (unfortunately xD)
