Damn love the git er done mentality . I have to take my trans apart to check it out there is no drain plug no way to refill I want to take it apart and service it clean it and then I am going to drill the bottom and tap it and put in a drain plug and a fill plug on top so I can drain and refill the trans has been really sticky but I also have the clutch mec out of adjust ment I am a Marine tech never had one of these trans apart . Love the video my man it was f it get it done I love it Never thought about the sheet metal and jb goo idea
@@HowToLou Well, isn't that great. I've had to do the same thing in the past on automatic meat slicers. At least my mower is working fine for now. Thanks for your reply!
I image you can drill and tap a hole for a drain plug. I did it on my 2011 ford flex, a year they did not have one on the ptu. after that they had a drain and fill plug factory spec. should be a lot easier for a garden/lawn tractor.@@JRobert111111
Hi! What could be wrong with the Peerles 700 5 speed When the machine is running, it doesn't go overboard and shake the gear stick What could be wrong and where can I get parts ordered in Finland?
I have this same Poulan Pro mower shown in the video and it won't move - one rear wheel goes forward and the other backwards. I was pushing it out of the shed and it just locked up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Great Vid! Thx! I have a ~2005 Craftsman DY4000. It starts jerking under load or in high gear. And makes a mild click noise. I've had the belt replaced. Read that maybe simply adding gear oil might fix? Thoughts? Thx!
I suspect one of your gears lost a few teeth. The jerk/click is when the gear spins free until it hits teeth again. This is hammering away and likely breaking off more teeth. I would open the tranny and replace that gear. Here is how: Riding Lawnmower Transmission Repair ua-cam.com/video/O-h3zSYJZYU/v-deo.html
@@HowToLou That's what I was thinking as well. I found the schematic for my specific transmission. Where is your go to for gears/parts? You also mentioned used tranny, where are those? Ebay? Thanks for your help. Again, great video!
Check all the linkages from the shift lever to the tranny, and make sure they are all easy to move. If so, you likely will have to split open the tranny, clean it out, and put in new gear oil.
I go to updates every year. We won't go there. Been in the business since 1989. Husky, Poulan, and McCulloch are AYP. MTD is still a pain in the ass as always.
Thank you you helped me figure something out even though I don’t need to repair the gears in the transmission. Well done.
Great video. So many people just throw thing out now. All for no reason.
Excellent video, thank you 👍 I've got to pull mine and replace the input shaft. God bless you 🙏🏻

Very interesting. Is there a way to check and/or change/fill the gear oil without having a hole blown in the bottom of the transaxle?
That oil is not meant to be changed. You have to split open the shell to do it.

On my peerless mtd-206, there is a rubber plug up top that you can pull out to fill it up and check it.

I've never seen another poulan pro before, so glad to randomly find one on the first video I click!
Was your lawnmower making a loud noise while driving and was that how you knew thr transmission was the problem ?
It wasn’t moving at all.

They’re actually made by Husqvarna or AYP American yard products….mtd has started only making craftsmans in early 2014 late 2016
Not in ride ons, Craftsman was the same till Sears was done.
Apparently that hose clamp cleared the gears...almost looked like it wouldn't.
Hello. I have the same Lawnmower. Do you know why it's hard to change gears? thanks.

@@HowToLou Ok, tank,s
Shifting forks maybe worn, do to not coming to a complete stop while shifting gears.
Hello, how can one change the transmission oil ?
Keep the filings out the gears, goes on with grinder with hole open.😂 I love it. Did the gearbox hold ?
P.s. awesome repair 🤘
Thank you. It held, but we ended up getting a free junk mower with a good tranny and swapped to get all our gears back.
@@HowToLou cool, for free is the best!
Excellent repair
Nice repair!
very helpful. thank you.
Hey ! Excellent video ! :-)
Thank you!
Ok, and in the box, grease or oil?? Tak you.
90 weight gear oil.
@@HowToLou Thanks. I another video where the guy put grease.
Love this!
Excellent video ….thanks
Craftsman’s are not made by mtd, they are made by AYP (the older ones atleast)
Which is Electalux, Husqvarna now.
Where can I get a used transmission
Online
Great
smart fix.
Remind me to never buy a rider from you without looking at the transmission first
Guaranteed the kid blew up gearbox poping wheelie’s
These are actually made by ayp and most of them are mtd and all of the new ones are mtd accept husqvarna and john deere
Wrong answer. If you don't know machines, don't put out false statements.
@kevinmurphy2426 No, this style was made by ayp. im a lawn mower repair guy. I make mistakes, but this is not one of them

MTD has a variable speed forward trans. Double pulley. AYP was never that stupid. LOL
