Awesome content, thanks a million Derek! Lots of guys notice a spontaneous recovery after a while of being on TRT, and some guys who report having post finasteride syndrome and nonexistent libido for almost a decade claim that bombarding their body with androgens brings them back to normal. Many guys will do a blast of test and HCG for 6 months and a good PCT and it brings them right back. I myself haven’t felt right ever since (still normal function) although the difference between my baseline and current labs isn’t significant. Considering adding this to my list of reasons to get a test prescription.

Love your stuff man you are always spot on! One thing to think about tho ... and keep in mind what I’m about to say is all anecdotal...I’ve listened to interviews with the late great Dr. Jon crisler and others on their take on PFS and they claim that even after administering trt to combat the effects of that suppression , that some of the men never fully recover and it’s a challenge trying to make them feel better even after quitting finasteride and getting their hormones optimal . Idk if it’s psychological or if for some men the use of finasteride has forever altered their 5alphs Redcutase enzyme and it’s ability to process and convert dht? A common theme amongst these docs is that they prefer topical dht blockers like dutasteride shampoo vs systematically blasting your dht . Something to think about .

administration of finasteride decreases social interaction and results in cognitive deficits, potentially through a cholinergic mechanism. Further studies are required to understand the exact link between the cognitive effects and the cholinergic system.Side effects may be irreversible and include persistent erectile dysfunction, depression, suicidal tendencies, loss of libido, anxiety, and other neurological issues (ie. memory loss, altered mental status).

This is THE BEST post I've seen regarding "post finasteride syndrone"(which is BS to begin with as you have described here). I'm on Dutasteride for 5 years now. I'm 56 now. I've noticed only a slight drop in libido but to be honest it's usually on nights I didn't sleep well so it's probably sleep related. My T and my estradiol were BOTH low in my late 40 to age 50. I wasn't some guy with low T and high estradiol. Now I feel great on most days.

ED is more common than people would like to believe. Losing small amounts of sexual function over time is natural. Exorcise don't eat like complete shit and that'll do 100x more than finasteride or dutasteride could hurt sexual function.

This is pure gold, finally an explanation based on chemistry of the body. Thanks for this video.
After 6 days of oral Finasteride I started having some mental problems, like waking up at night kind of confused for a minute, then afraid, uneasy and worried. I kept using finasteride on spray for two more weeks after realizing that was a dumb choice. Sometimes at night before bed I get something that could be described as anxiety for like an hour, after which I finally manage to get over it. That wasn't the case before starting Finasteride.
I've read that the half life of 5-alpha-reductase is 30 days, so I'm basically waiting 90+ days to have a large chunk of that inhibited enzyme washed out of my body.
With all this information I can dig deeper on this, maybe talk to an endocrinologist and get some blood tests done. Just another problem to solve by investigating the hell out of it!
    Once again, thanks!

NOT ONLY should one test their hormone levels before using Finasteride, BUT they need a proper diet to support Testosterone and ALSO support estrogen detoxification. The two biggest things to detox estrogen via the liver is 1) eat enough protein (military studies showed that when protein is low, the livers ability to detoxify estrogen is impeded) and 2) SUPPORT YOUR METHYLATION. Many people have severe MTFHR genetic polymorphism activity which causes them to have a higher need for methyl donors, such as betaine, folate, choline, and also the B vitamins, especially Vitamin B2 and B12. Also your need mote glycine to support this system. A 2:1 methionine to glycine ratio is a good start. Also plenty of animal based zinc foods at each meal, enough carbs to support thyroid and liver ( a 2:1 or 3:1 carb to protein ratio is great and keeps blood sugar stable and cortisol low; rating loads of protein by itself drops blood sugar and raised stress hormones cortisol and adrenaline); also get plenty of Vitamin A, D, and K2 earlier in the day consumed with fat. That support Testosterone as well. BUT if you produce excess and you’re not supporting methylation with nutrition, your body won’t be able to lower it by getting rid of it by methylation it and detoxification via the liver/urine. Especially if you have even slight MTFHR, as many people do, especially those of European decent.
And if you’re on Finasteride and see a small increase in estrogen and testosterone, then your body won’t be able to remove the excess estrogen via methylation if you don’t support your methylation system to begin with.
Lastly, lose fat (like the more plates more feted said) if you have to because fat tissue is a major source of estrogen. So improve your body composition in favor of muscle.

No side effects, except, the first months I had (slight) mood swings and occasional pain in my left testicle (both of which completely went away after about 7-8 months), though, I wouldn't necessarily blame the former onto Finasteride. As far as the gym goes, haven't noticed any problems in building muscle or any decline in strength over the couple of years since taking Finasteride. As far as 'hair gains' -- I haven't 'gained' hair, however, I would say that it indeed slowed down the hair loss by a huge degree.

@@kloschuessel773 Yeah, I mean, it's not like it 'hurt' in the ordinary sense. It's more like a 'slight irritated feeling' (if that makes sense?). It was also only occasional, like, about 1-2 days every 4-6 weeks. The reason why I (still) take 1.25mg/day is simply because I feel like I benefit more from it as opposed to 0.5mg/day. In the 3 years and 7 months I've been taking it, I've gone as low as 0.5mg/day to even as high as 2,5mg/day (which is overkill IMO). With the 0.5mg/day I noticed a little shedding going on aswell as a slight drop in the 'quality' of my hair. With the 2.5mg/day I noticed that my libido had (temporarily) dropped (not a huge decline, but definitely a noticeable decline) aswell as a temporal 'brain fog'.
Yeah, I'd say IF you are prone to gyno - be very careful with it. This can cause gyno if you are prone to it. As for my beard and eyebrows, no I haven't noticed anything.

Is it possible that post-finasteride syndrome is confused with the long time the drug remains on the skin? It is said that a simple dose of 1mg can remain on the skin for at least 30 days, so daily intake would lead to an over-accumulation in the body. In addition, it takes 3-6 months for the body to rid itself of the drug.

Stopped waking up with spontaneous erections about 60-90 days in to it, but have no issues beyond that and respond like I normally would to stimulation otherwise. Struggled with depression my entire life from my teens onward, it doesn't seem to make it worse. As long as I'm single this is no big deal, but I hope it's reversible. I was uncommonly "healthy" for a person my age when it comes to sex before this. I only just now see 1/2 inch hairs at my hairline, and still shed. My hair has been down to my stomach since I was a teen, so it's hard to say how much I'm truly shedding when 10 of my hairs look like 50 of the average guy's so I'm hanging in there.

I completely agree with the necessity of blood work before and during finesteride use, howewer there is some cases of people thwt didnt have sides on fin, and when they stopped it they get the "crush".... One in particular had high t and normal esteigen level before etarting finesteride, and he went into crush after stopping medication.... I think in this case the main cause is because the androgenes go to sleep and not regain function after stopping the drug even with normaal hormonal balance post fin.... Or something to do about gaba a inhibition properties of fin.... Howewer still most of this pretty rare cases, they can be resolved with trt or dht pill, and many of them regain function properly with this kind of supplementwtion, cause higher levels of androgens try to wake up androgens sleeping receptors previously blocked by fin... Is there a testing service you recommend for UK people? I saw you do this blood work but its US based :(

Nailed it. I don’t know why this hasn’t been addressed more. Anyone who understands hormones knows this isn’t a mystery as to why these sides happen.

DrScream ru58841 is compound you can put on your scalp that’s blocks dht and androgens from shrinking hair follicles, there a lot of videos on this channel about it.

Once blood work is done, could you theoretically get at least close to the perfect ratio of getting enough dht and test so that you don’t have your hair fall out but you also have your sex hormones in check.

Or just no DHT with as much Test as it takes to fulfil physiologic functions.

Hi Derek, I have a couple of questions. In order to restore the normal DHT is a drug that does the contrary to finasteride, raise the enzyme 5ar type 2? Or you are suggesting to just take a external source of DHT? This last solution would have problems like test supression right? I left finasteride a couple of months ago but I feel my DHT is still on the lower end. I have libido but not like the one before starting taking finasteride.
Lastly, do you have any idea if the down regulation of the conversion to dht is permanent?

      It's not permanent.
Body needs up to 8-12 months to restore its' baseline.
Hormonal changes take longer time to recover to baseline.

Been training for three years, no gear packed on some size, I'm wondering if high natural dht and having the genes for hair loss is causing my hair to disappear. At least I don't have to worry about it once I hop on Hahahaha.
