If you want to get away from everything and everyone, only Wyoming is a "lonelier" state in the contingent US.

Is Lockwood considered Billings or a different town itself?

I've been to Billings a number of times for work and I have to say it is one of the bleakest and most borings cities I have spent time in. Downtown is very run down and literally little to do.

Whether for good or not, the people here don't know how dreary the town is. Nice folks, however -- just unaware.

In the next 10 years from now (2030), the 3 out of 4 sparsely states will be the fastest growing states, and they are: Montana, North Dakota, and South Dakota. Meanwhile Wyoming, the least populated state will have a + or - change and it might go up or down slightly. The population of Montana will be 1,100,000 in 2020, up from 985,000 in 2010, the population of North Dakota will be 775,000 in 2020, up from 689,000 in 2010, and the population of South Dakota will be 915,000 in 2020 up from 825,000 in 2010. The projected 2030 population of Montana will be about 1,250,000, North Dakota will be 850,000, and South Dakota may exceed 1,000,000 in the next 10 years from now.

Billings, MT isn't even big enough for a trolley or a light rail. Why is that on there?

I think light rail would be a great investment in the future, but only after further expansion of services in the Downtown area and an expansion of the current transit system. Light rail can be very expensive to operate, so I also think it's important for the city to not go overboard with it (considering our winters can be hell on the roads, imagine what would happen to the tracks).

Salt Lake city is the smallest metro are with light rail and has 1.3M in the metro area, Tucson is the smallest metro area that has street cars (more like a mini light rail) and has a metro area of just over 1M. Billings only has an entire "metro area" of only 175K. so yes, Billings is much too small to have anything than the small bus system they already have.

You'll waste Millions on trolleys just like Milwaukee and cincinnati where no one rides them, just get some smaller busses that look like trolleys, that way if you want to re route them you can just drive to a different route instead of having fixed tracks. Or better yet spend those millions on public safety , things that most people can appreciate to help prevent someone from breaking into their car or garage.
