I'm certainly proud to call Montana home. Billings, or "Hillbillings" as a friend put it, not so much. I'd like to get out and move to the western side of the state. I like mountains and forests much, much more than prairie and sagebrush.
@I_Said_ OU812 Not sure their exact reasoning behind it. I haven't heard any rumors or reasoning as to why. They've been that way as long as I can remember. It's a very popular place.
@I_Said_ OU812 yeah I've eaten there several times. It's obviously more expensive than McDonald's but you're getting so, so much more. The Burger Dive has won many regional and even national awards for their burgers. In 2016 they were the World Burger Champion in the world food championships. The burgers are huge as well as the sides you get. The burger I usually get needs to be stabbed with a knife first so it doesn't explode from juiciness when you take a bite. If you get a Smore's shake, they bring out a butane torch and light the marshmallows on fire on top of the shake for an authentic fire roasted Smore taste. The burgers range about $5-$11 burger only, or $8.25-$13.50 with fries (upgradable to beer battered onion rings with local brewery beer, and other sides). You can find the full menu here: theburgerdive.com/full-menu If you Google it, you can find photos and reviews, and I think those speak for themselves as well. I would spend the extra money on a burger here over McDonald's any day of the week. (another great place downtown for burgers is a local brewery called Uberbrew on Montana Ave. They've got great beer and burgers and fries as well, but Burger Dive is still a step above.)
I ran into you guys at four dances! I didn't think I'd actually come across your work! By the way, thanks for pointing out that rattle snake when my pup and I ran by. Hope your travels have been going well!
I've lived in Billings for 36 years. I cant believe all the haters leaving their "I'm bored...nothing to do here" comments. I'm proud of my hometown and I wished others would be proud also. Make your own way. Nobody is going to hold your hand and do it for you. Great video.
Which is precisely why I love it. Strong, independent people. No catering to thumb suckers or entitled, lazy brats. (You can't tell I'm from Oregon, can you?)
Welcome to Billings. Here is a rock. If you look to your left you will see another rock. If you drive up to the airport you will find yourself on an even bigger rock. Hell if you wan't entertainment then go to the Denny's on 27th at night. Just try not to get stabbed in the parking lot.
Plenty Coup museum used to be cool but all of the artifacts are gone, where did they go, Ebay? now you just get to see pictures of them and the workers don't know anything.
Montana is for outdoors activities such as fishing, hunting, hiking, boating and camping it’s not for big city feel it’s just a gorgeous area especially in kalispell
Nice shot at 0:21 of the vintage Northern Pacific 0-6-0 (wheel arrangement), steam locomotive switcher just south of the Billings airport. Thanks for sharing!
Billings is where my Dad's side of the family lived for 3+ generations. Lots of fun things to do there and many various festivals and events there (and in surrounding towns.) Cool town and nice folks too.
Check out the Bull Mountain Grille (Best Steaks in Billings). Then add Montana Club (breakfast, lunch or dinner), Stella's (breakfast), Fiesta Mexicana (Carne asada burrito), Bullman's Pizza,
Constitutional carry AND lane filtering for motorcyclists passed in MT within a few weeks of each other. This has me seriously considering a road trip to see if I want to move there.
I’m a Billings boy, born and raised. I agree with most of what he recommends, but it takes more than just a little while to really explore the city and get to know it. BTW, City Brew Coffee is the best. Ignore what he said about Moav.
Pryor Mountains and the wild horses. Having grown up there and now living in Northern California, it’s what you make of it. The winters can be cold and windy, while the summers hot with the daily afternoon thunderstorms that roll off the Beartooth mountains.
Thanks for this vlog! I actually lived at Little Bighorn National Monument (which was then called Custer Battlefield) from 1977-1978. My dad worked for the national park, and I went to school in Hardin. So cool to see the park (and Billings) over 40 years later, especially considering that we now both live in the greater Los Angeles area! P.S. - If you’re a fan of Minuteman III nuclear ICBM silos, Montana is a great place to live!
Love the show u did with Gatlinburg Tennessee and we tracked there last week and stood at the same hotel. Overall is was great and thanks for the tips.
Your short tour was informative and helpful. We have family that live there, we shop when we visit. I wasnt aware of the state parks so close to town. Would like to take time for the museums though. Seen Pompeys and Battlefield. Have enjoyed the Burger Dive, parking is tight. Thanks for making Billings a place to enjoy while stopping. We can all find the good/bad in anything if we look for it.
Yellowstone - it isn't remotely near Billings (there are turn-offs in Livingston and Gardner) but it makes for a good day trip. The ice rink. Also - the sheer amount of used bookstores. They're everywhere.
I've lived in Billings for 15+ years. Kinda funny to see a youtube video bout it. Barely anything to do here, but outside of billings there's lots of stuff to do. Lots of beautiful nature to explore.
WHERE WAS THIS VIDEO SIX YEARS AGO WHEN I NEEDED IT?????? Ha ha ha ha! I really like Billings and very much WILL go back & would even consider moving there. Just one small correction. Little Bighorn is south of Billings, south of Hardin. Not east. Or maybe better stated as southeast. Like this a lot!
Add a stop at the Big Horn County Museum on the edge of Hardin between Billings and the Little Big Horn Battlefield. Twenty-four historic buildings, and exhibit buildings on a beautiful 35 acre complex. Exit 497 on I 90.
To sum this up, as someone that lives here in Billings.. "Hike and drink." If you are the outdoorsy type Billings is a great place. Unfortunately if you are less inclined to the outdoors scene there isn't much to do. Occasionally something interesting pops up in the Metra at least. Finally, there has been some growth for things like the Steam Punk community though, so it is starting to grow.
If you disc golf, as I do, the Diamond X Disc Golf Course is probably the "world's most dangerous disc golf course" as it leads you up a cliff, all over on top of the cliff, and one huge shot from the top to the start. Super fun to play, but many vertical climbs are involved.
I am a billings native born and raised and I can confirm that you absolutely smashed this video out of the park! I loved all of it. Unfortunately since the making of this video, The Fieldhouse is no longer open. I think I heard that the owners might have another project in the works though
The comment I sent regarding Fort Benton would be if you do A small rural towns because although it is interesting and beautiful it would not take you long to view it
You can definitely tell this guy is a tourist who has no clue what he is talking about Billings is boring as hell and everything place you said to go or thing to do while here has been done by every montanan. Good effort though man
One place you mised was the Battle of Canyon Creek A stone structure and plaque mark the Battle of Canyon Creek west of Billings, where the Nez Perce and U.S. Army fought briefly in 1877. Nez Perce warriors fired at the soldiers from the rim in the background. JEFF WELSCH, Gazette Staff Date: Sept. 13, 1877. Nez Perce War of 1877. Location: Eight miles north of Laurel, 16 miles west of Billings. Tribe: Nez Perce What’s there: A small covered pavilion with three interpretive signs and a sandstone pillar describing the battle marks the junction of Buffalo Trail and Lipp roads west of Billings and north of Laurel. Don’t bother exploring the creek bottoms or distant rims where the Nez Perce had staked out positions, though; they’re all on private land. The story: For more than a month since the Battle of the Big Hole, the Nez Perce had continued to elude Gen. Howard, their easterly and then northerly pilgrimage taking them through America’s first national park, Yellowstone, where they killed two tourists. The 7th Cavalry under Col. Samuel Sturgis was ordered to intercept the Indians as they emerged from Yellowstone, but they failed until the tribe reached turbid Canyon Creek where it emerges from a cut in the rims. The Nez Perce came to the Yellowstone River country believing the Crow would provide asylum. But, fearing retaliation and mistakenly believing helping the U.S. Government would serve their future, the Crow refused Chief Looking Glass’ overtures; some even became cavalry scouts. Despite being outnumbered about 2-to-1, Looking Glass’ small group of snipers managed to keep the cavalry at bay long enough for the women and children to make an easterly escape along the rims before turning north in hopes of finding an ally in Sioux Chief Sitting Bull in Canada. The significance: Though the Indians suffered only three casualties, the Crow, who refused assistance, used the cover of the U.S. Army to steal about 300 Nez Perce horses, further demoralizing the tribe and slowing its progress just enough to allow the troops to catch up a month later 40 miles shy of Canada.

Yo hello from out in Shepherd!

Yea it seems everyone kinda just forgets about us.
Thanks for stopping by Billings 👍

@I_Said_ OU812 Too funny that you were born here. Sorry to hear that! Have a great day!
