      I’ve used it a couple of times. I also picked up a lone wolf hang on I just need to get sticks for it. Once I get them I was gonna see which I liked better, but now I think I’ll keep both. I’ll just decide which to use depending where I’m hunting.

      @@rainsong7327 Lol! Nope, no age cutoff. As long as you can support your own weight on ur forearms, you should be fine. If you’ve watched the second part of the video you’ll see I provide a demonstration of how it is used. With that you should be able to determine if it’s a good fit for you. If you haven’t used a climber before you may want to try one before taking the plunge. It’s not for everybody, this one in particular. Good luck!

    Hey Don, greetings from the northeast. I am commenting a year after you published this, your first of two videos on the Lone Wolf Assault hand climber. Your thorough reviews left a very positive impression on me, and when I recently saw a slightly used Lone Wolf Assault hand climber for sale on Facebook I jumped on it in reliance upon your recommendation. After having practiced with the stand in the back yard and hunted out of it twice, I am thoroughly impressed. It is by far the best stand that I own and I am looking forward to many years of enjoyment. Thank you for your informative videos that led me to make this purchase, your channel’s content is terrific and very helpful!

      @@northofdetroitoutdoors7404 You're right I did luck out and I couldn't be happier with the stand. Social media gets plenty of criticism, but the benefits far outweigh the bad. How else would a couple of outdoorsmen, one from Michigan and the other from Massachusetts, ever connect if not for this platform? It's good stuff. Thanks again for your great content!

  • @millerb32

    I think the issue you're having with the bushing not getting up into the recess, is that it's binding up on the traction belt which is inside that tube. It would explain why it goes back and forth from one bushing to the other. Try pulling the belt and see if they both seat into the recess. Great video.

    • @northofdetroitoutdoors7404
      @northofdetroitoutdoors7404  2 роки тому

      I figured out the problem several months after the video was made. The bushing assembly came dislodged from what seems to be an internal slot inside the tubular frame. I was able to push back into place with a small screwdriver. No problems since. It was only happening on the one side, not both. I was obviously still getting used to it and thought it was both sides. My bad! Thanks for the comment.

    Just had a LW assault hand climber given to me the bar you were talking about moving freely mines still stiff . It looked like it sat in a tree one time then in the bed of a truck. All the manufacturer paint was gone. Hit it with an OD green and gonna give it some black stripes or grey. Anyway. My buddy’s dad told me a few years ago how much they were. Never got one nor would I spend the money on it. Ended up buying a brand new hawk ultra lite in 2019 and it’s a badass solid stand. I just feel like the weight difference of the lw is going to make a big difference. Plus me hawk had something that was squeaky when walking. Still love that hawk tho.

    I’ve been saddle hunting the last few years, but eyeing this stand given how simple it is and how quickly you can set up/break down. Wouldn’t have to worry about all the ropes, pouches, etc..

    Great review and well presented. On the LW YT channel, they say to use plumbers grease for the platform channels. My climber is a couple years old and was hard to slide like you mentioned. The grease made a huge difference and is thick enough to last a season. Picked up a small tube from Home Depot.
    Love the stand. It helped me kill a solid public land buck in IL this year.
    It packs down low, light weight and quite.
    Another good addition is the third hand stabilizer straps. I was hesitant but they seem to hold better than the stock straps once you’re at height to lock the stand down.

      Appreciate the positive feedback! Wow, great info! Must’ve missed that on the website; I’ll look for a small tube of that grease - likely works better than the gun oil I’ve been using. It’s unfortunate more owners don’t know this. One guy said he sent FOUR climbers back to LW because of that one issue! Congrats on the buck! If my straps wear out I’ll look into the ones you recommend. Much appreciated!

    If you weigh over 210lbs and are used to putting on 10lbs in the winter, I wouldn’t invest in or hunt out of a lone wolf climber. I owned one for 7 years. The top half collapsed on me, more then once, while I was hunting. The stand is rated for 250. More like 235! I’m talking body weight, gear ect... Before I put on a little weight, I shot quite a few 3.5 year olds from it. I ended up giving it away to a neighbor friend that weighed 25lbs less than me. The Summit Viper SD is super comfy and safe but LOAD and BULKY! So if your a bigger guy like me you might want to hunt from the ground or hang in hunt/saddle. The viper is nice for private land as a fixed stand because it makes for a great afternoon nap or public if you put it out ahead of time, but don’t plan on blazing any trails

    Just saw your complaint about the smaller trees I had that problem the bottom will only go in so far I took an Allen wrench and a socket and the bolt that the strap hits inside the tube take it out and flip it around the other way and you can then go as small as you want just like the top section

      Thanks for the comment! From my experience, the issue with trees that are small (and too large) is that too few teeth on the climber actually engage the tree. Also, does the bulky winter boot engage the stand easily while climbing? I’m in northern Alberta, so even early season requires bulky gear. Thanks for this great review! • @northofdetroitoutdoors7404
      @northofdetroitoutdoors7404  3 роки тому

      Thanks for reaching out. I’ve had no major trouble with platform space or climbing with the two pair of winter boots that I use. To be sure, it’s a small platform but for me it’s worth the sacrifice for the weight savings. I’d imagine that if you have boots that are significantly oversized in the toe area it may interfere when you attempt to put you feet under the bracket to climb.

For me as a mobile hunter low weight and efficiency is everything. If I were you I’d seriously consider the saddle. I don’t think you’d be as quick getting in the tree but it’s probably a good sacrifice for low weight. I hear they are comfortable too, and you can get better shots as you can move wherever you want around the tree. I’m committed to LW Assault for now but wish I were ready to upgrade like you!

      Thanks for reaching out! Good tip. Actually I fixed the issue just within the last few days. Hard to describe what the issue was without showing it, but it seemed to be something metal on the inner side of the knob assembly (presumably a washer or nut) that was interfering with the end of the slot. I loosened the know as much as possible and pushed it inward with a small screwdriver. Maybe it was in the wrong orientation. But it now seems to seat in the recessed hole as designed. Finally! All the best to you this season!

      Thanks for viewing. Unfortunately, I don’t have a link to the straps. I’ve heard from other viewers that they are difficult to get. Good luck!

      North of Detroit Outdoors not a problem at all. I just ordered the XOP ambush sit and climb. Couldn’t see myself paying that much for a lone wolf climber right now. But I do like how your set up is! Good content

      cody mayo I’ve seen reviews of the XOP stand and it seems like a really good choice. I wasn’t aware of that model when I purchased my LW hand climber. I’d be interested in what you think of it.

    Good review. One thing though, if you are standing up trying to shoot a deer behind you with a bow, since that seat doesn't flip up, is that seat taking up a lot of space since the platform is 26 in long? With the platform only 26in long and the seat doesn't go up, the seat could hit your leg.

      @northofdetroitoutdoors7404  3 роки тому

      Thanks! It is a small platform and but I’ve used it enough to know how to maneuver myself into any position without problem, even if I have to shoot behind the tree. For someone with a large frame it would likely be too small but I have a thin build and it’s manageable. I tend to stabilize myself by leaning my leg against the seat if necessary. I chose to sacrifice extra room for the weight savings.

      If you take a bunji from one side of the band to the other side u can loosen the side straps sop the seat will flip up.

    Hi. Just discovered your video. I used to live in Southfield, MI and live outside of Philadelphia now. I'm new to hunting this year and am searching for a stand. I was torn between the Lone Wolf climbers and one of the Summit Climbers. Your video helps a lot. Also an an African American, I'm hoping to see more diversity in hunting, so it's good to see your content. Hope you'll have more videos in the future.

      Thanks for the feedback! Feel free to keep up with the channel as I plan to provide some basic tips that may be helpful to new hunters like you. And, yes, there are very few African Americans in outdoor activities like hunting, fishing and camping. In 2016 AAs comprised less than 1% of hunters! It would be great to see more involvement from underrepresented minorities. We are missing out on so much fun! (BTW, we may have been former neighbors! I grew up in 8 Mile and Greenfield area)

    On the fit problem, are you sure the straps are not in the way when they get locked in? Try to remove the strap and then putting the pins in.

      Thanks for the comment! Good suggestion but the traction belt doesn’t seem to be the issue as the problem persists even when it is not installed. It definitely has something to do with the pin/bushing assembly.

    This is a really great review.
    You forgot #5 ITS QUIET!
    I’ve climbed tree with deer within 50yards undetected with my Alpha…..
    As far as fit/finish issue:
    You may want to mill out that rt side a tick w a large sized drill bit to gain 1/64-1/32”.
    Great review. I’m subscribing….👍🏻

      Thanks for the comment! Much appreciated! Yes, it is very quiet. I’ve also climbed trees only to have deer under my stand within minutes of getting settled. The ability to get up a tree quickly and quietly with this climber can’t be overstated!

      Both are great schools. I went to neither so I’m not super passionate about either one. I root for both. but when they match up I choose based on which players I support most in a particular year.
