    Just tried my Lone Wolf Hand Climber with my Tethrd Phantom and what an awesome combo! It took minutes to get comfortable with the system and start climbing. I used the little clipping straps that came with my Lone Wolf to strap the feet and clip that to the tether ala your mod in this video. I'm somewhere between you and your buddy on the flexibility scale so adjusting it with the pull up strap and so on was easy. I used your zip tie shortcut to raise the angle today. Will likely do the bolt now that I know how easy it works. Thanks for producing your videos here!

  • @michaelvaught2679

    Speaking as an engineer. There is one issue that doing this mod creates that must be considered. Increasing the angle and lengthening the strap effectively increases the vertical distance from the contact point of the stand on the front of the tree to the contact point of the band on the back of the tree. This mod will reduce the contact forces between the stands gripping surface and the tree. If we use easy numbers to do the calculations the math goes like this. if a 200 lb man stands on the end of the platform and the platform is 12 inches away from the tree horizontally and the vertical distance to the bands contact point on the back of the tree is 6" prior to the mod and 12" after the mod. Then prior to the mod the stand will exert approximately 400 lbs of force into the bark of the tree. After the mod the stand will exert only 200 lbs of force into the bark of the tree. So, if you choose to make this mod, be sure you remember this fact and take into account the bark of the tree you are climbing in. Makes sure it is got some roughness to it. Also, pay attention whether the tree is wet. Any issue that could make the tree harder to grab onto is important including how hard the tree is. Just be safe and make sure we all come home at the end of the hunt.

    • @johnnypalmer2574
      @johnnypalmer2574  6 місяців тому

      My body weight keeps it locked and I keep my feet under my foot strap. If leaning to the side for a shot is not enough ( usually is ) I'll bring/pivot the platform around the tree a little bit. Like if you were stepping around on a ring of steps.

  • @JDye-youtube
    @JDye-youtube 3 роки тому

    The problem is, you can only point your ankles/feet so far down to create the stand angle that achieves more clearance for the belt. The mod artificially increases the stand angle and when added with max foot angle, creates the extra belt clearance. If you could increase the foot angle, you wouldn’t need to mod the stand. How about a wedged shape piece of dense foam under your forefeet? It would compress when you stand on it, but as soon as you take your weight off of it, it would push against the stand creating a steeper angle. When combined with max foot angle it would effectively create a steeper stand angle, producing the same type of “clearance” as your mod. I just bought a top. I will try this out soon and see how it works. If it works, you wouldn’t need to “mod” your stand. I have seen some stands eventually break at the mod bolt hole if not perfectly.

    • @johnnypalmer2574
      @johnnypalmer2574  3 роки тому

      No...you need to get a LWHC in your hand. Put it around the tree by hand. Angle it any way you want by hand and you will see the band is to choose to the tree. I know of 2 that broke that were UNmodded because people bounce on them. Mine and about 90 others out there are still going strong so I think it works for most people.

    I've tried it. The issue is that the amount of travel of the platform is limited so it takes longer to get up the tree and down. When you have the sit and climb method of a climber you can bring your knees higher. The saddle prevents this cause youre up against the tree with your knees bent already, thus reducing length of travel. I guess in order to travel lighter this is an option but it does have that drawback. Also you need limbless trees.

    You never stated to put larger band on hand climber. Also seems like saddle exposes hunter to sky line more. But great idea thanks

      Wassup man, none of us have had to use the larger band. I do have one though still in the package.
      When we lean back in our saddles with our feet against the trunk, we look like a branch growing up and out. Real natural looking compared to a dude sitting in a metal chair off the side of a tree.

    If you’re gonna go through that you might as well use the platform that comes with the seat.

      You can buy the hand climber on its own and the saddle will be much more comfortable and easier to maneuver in.

    The amount of problems you Saddle hunters have to solve is endless. I did the saddle thing for years and gave up on it. It’s an endless stream of challenges and problems to overcome. Not worth the trouble.
