In this video I track blood to find my first deer of 2024. I also provide a demonstration of how to field dress the deer. I typically take the first deer I see during archery season just to ensure my wife has backstraps for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Mission accomplished! Too bad I mistakenly turned my GoPro off. SMH. Big thanks to my good buddy Jacques for some great filming!!

Great video!!
Thanks for the feedback! Glad you liked it!
I have the fanatic bibs and comparing the fanatic jacket with the incinerator jacket. I think I’m gonna get the incinerator for the waterproof and primaloft gold. The fanatic jacket has primaloft silver.
The incinerator was on my list too and I might have purchased it if there was one at the retailer. From what I understand it is a bit louder than the fanatic especially in cold weather, but I’m sure it will work just fine for you. Good luck. After you get some use out of it I’d love to hear how it’s working for you.
@ okay I’ll get back with you when I put it to the test.
@@mr.gtmsworld2494 awesome! Look forward to it!
@@northofdetroitoutdoors7404 do you ever mix camo patterns? I wear subalpine and elevated 2 together in late season. Do you think it makes me stand out more or not?
@@mr.gtmsworld2494 No, I don’t mix patterns only because I only have Elevated 2 pattern on my gear (Stratus and Fanatic). Your Subalpine may stand out a little more in winter due to the lack of green surroundings, but generally speaking I don’t think it makes much difference, especially if you are in a tree stand (the higher the better IMHO). From my experience if deer spot you but you stay still you should be fine.
Thank you this. This solves my problem.
You bet! Glad it helps! Thanks for letting me know!
Do have an update on the durability? BTW great review!
I have another review after two hunting seasons… see my channel for that video. Thanks for reaching out.
@northofdetroitoutdoors7404 i saw it right after I made the comment. Thank you. Both reviews were great. I already have the fanatic jacket, and I'm thinking about getting the bibs.
@@byronmaxwell2225 Awesome! If you like the jacket you’ll probably love the bibs too. Let me know what you think.
Do you happen to have a link for ball/hitch assembly
Just added the Amazon link… Hope it works for you!
Great idea
Yeah, it was a great find!!
Hey Don you might want to consider getting a lithium ion battery. They're pretty light and you can get them at a decent price
That’s exactly what I did! I hope to do a review this spring/summer. Thanks for the comment!
That adapter is nice!
Thanks! I think so too! Works great so far.
Just found your channel. Really enjoy your videos. Very thorough reviews and very well done videos. You are a natural.

Great video with practical information. Appreciate your time in putting this together.

The picture your showing @ 3.35................ If that's all that happens to your hunting clothes bro your good people crack me up they want to buy stuff that's expensive or cheap and then think IT'S going stay PERFECT for 1 - 2 years LOL All the silly ass comments about stuff that happens to your hunting clothes etc in 3 months to 2 years............. 🤣🤣🤣 Is just that F.....KING SILLY!
People seem to appreciate the review. Guess it’s not for everybody.
Awesome job putting this all together! Enjoyable to watch and to see how much thought you put into it as well.
Thank you! Means a lot for the effort to be appreciated! Glad you enjoyed it! 👍🏽
DUDE!!!! EPIC!!!!
Thanks bro!
It always amazes me how many different ways people field dress deer and make it way harder than necessary. You’ve got a knife with a gut hook, yet you dangerously flail the knife forward as you cut hide up the sternum. USE THE GUT HOOK!! Turn it around and zipper the hide/hair up the sternum in a controlled manner, flip the hide to the sides and you can take your knife and slip it through the cartilage where the ribs meet the sternum. No need for a bone saw. It’s like slicing though butter and because the hide is to the side you can see where to cut!! On one hand, congratulations on a great buck, on the other, it’s incredibly irresponsible to take a pot shot on a deer you cant even tell what it is because it’s too dark??? You got EXTREMELY lucky!!!
Wish I could argue with you, but I can’t! You made good points. Thanks for the advice!
You forgot to show us how you cut the nuts and penis off 😂. Here’s a tip on the butt out tool: pull it out about 10 inches and zip tie the closest end to the cavity. Then cut before the zip tie so when you pull everything out poop won’t come out inside. Happened to me before just wanted to share.
Awesome Video Don!
Thanks for watching! Much appreciated!
Nice work! I hope people can appreciate how much added work goes in to trying to capture the hunt on camera. Great setup and results! 🤙
Thank you for the recognition of the effort it takes. Recording is a lot of work, but the ability to share and relive the experience is more than worth it! So appreciated!
@northofdetroitoutdoors7404 i hear you! Being able to tell your kids or grandkids about some of your favourite hunts is one thing, but being able to show them as if they were right there with you is a totally new level. Keep up the great work! 👍
Yup! Thats right! Same to you!
Best video ever!!!!
Congratulations, hope the rest of your season goes well for you my friend! God bless…
Thank you! I hope so too! Same to you!
Congratulations on successfull hunt!
Thanks! Appreciate that!
Nice doe Don!
Thanks for watching!
Really well done! Thank you.
Thank you! Appreciate the support! Glad you enjoyed it!
No more cutting off the penis?
TY.. Great Review
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
Life saver, I found the hitch and installed it on my bike. It's a night and day difference from my DIY. What I did to install the hitch on the back rack was I cut a 3" pc of 1-1/2-in x 3-ft Zinc-Plated Steel Perforated Square Tube as the hitch lines up perfectly with it. I drilled a hole through the rack and used 5/16 x 1" bolts, which were super easy and solid. I also drilled and used two 5/16 x 2 bolts for the hawk crawler.
Awesome! So glad it worked out for you! It is a great find!
BAFFIN boots..made in Canada..your feet will never be cold!!
I’ve heard of those. Sound awesome. I just hate the thought of having to carry one more thing into the field… I already have so much! Appreciate the comment!
Nice review. Glad you had good LUCK. I've had two pairs of Lacrosse Boots that cracked and the soles came apart. The quality isn't there anymore dunce they moved the company " off shore" to " made in China". Lacrosse doesn't want to hear anything nor do they care !
Thanks! Great feedback. I’m sure others will appreciate your perspective!
I too am interested in the ebike attachment. As far as getting the deer in the truck while being alone I use a couple wood boards for a ramp and keep a jet sled in the truck. I cart deer to truck, off load into sled and then pull it up the board ramps. Works like a charm.
Ok, thanks for the feedback. I’m hoping to put that hitch video together soon. Great hack for loading deer when solo!
I know this video is pretty old. Are you still using this stand? I was giving one for free. I struggled getting down from tree knowing what you know now would you put stirrups on the stand.
Yes I still use the stand. Just this weekend, in fact. I don’t use stirrups and honestly don’t see the need, at least personally. It works just fine for me as is. Maybe you should use it a bit more to get used to it. What seems to be the biggest problem you are having?
@ after watching all these videos. I believe the issue was how I was using it. I was told to put my toes under the brace bar along the backside. What I have learned from your video and others is that I should have placed my feet through the sides. Which makes WAY more sense. As I was coming down the bottom slipped off my toes (my harness works lol) and I bit my lip. If I would've used the sides this wouldn't of happened. Thank you for such good content.
Ah! I can see now why you were having issues. Glad you got that figured out. I would hate for you to not take advantage of such a great stand. Im so glad the video was helpful!! You’ll be deadly now! Please feel free to reach out if I can help anytime in the future!
Thanks for the in depth. I am looking into fanatic gear but also considering Stratus here in northern WI. I am 5' 10" 170 lbs and was a scheels debating on fanatic size medium or large. I haven't purchased yet, but I was leaning more to the medium for both. It looks like you shoot a compound and similar size, you went with a large bibs and jacket. Do you have any advice in that sizing since you have real world experience? Do you find yourself layering much? I was hoping to just wear a base layer and not have to wear anything else which is why I was thinking more towards the medium, but Maybe you will tell me I'm wishful thinking of just a base layer? Also, I watched you fanatic reviews. They are excellent. One thing I think you didn't go in depth into on the second review was how did the fanatic bibs hold up when you went through thorns and brush? Did you get tears or rips? I know you mentioned in the first one that you began to purposefully walk around those thorns but the second video/ season you made it sound like you just said screw it I'm going through stuff to see how it handles. Just looking for an update on those pants, especially how the "mapping" fabric held up? Also, how are they in burrs? Appreciate it.
Thanks for reaching out and for the compliments! If the reputation of brutally cold weather of northern WI is true, I’d go with Fanatic. Regarding the size, it’s hard to say. I went with the large in Fanatic because I was able to try on both med and large at a local retailer; the medium bibs were too constricting in the waist area without any layering underneath. But of course I’ll let you be the judge based on how similarly shaped we are. If you are leaner in the mid section, the medium may work. Regarding just a base layer, I do wear a pair of thin, form-fitting pants over my bottom base layer, and I wear the fanatic hoodie over the top. I’ve never needed any more than that in even the coldest weather. If you are warm natured, you may be able to get by with just a base layer but that seems a bit light in my opinion. I did go through heavy brush and thorns but didn’t have any problems at all. No tears or rips. It’s still holding up extremely well. I hope this helped. Good luck with your choices and shoot straight this hunting season!
I’m in NE Ohio. I’m stuck between Kuiu’s whitetail version and Sitka’s. I have Kuiu gear and like it but I hate having to send it back because it didn’t fit. Sitka I can try on locally. Given my 40% discount from Sitka and 10% from Kuiu the price comes out to almost the same. Decisions decisions…
Decisions decisions is right! Don’t have any experience with Kuiu but they also have a good reputation. At the end of the day, you should end up with some great gear! Good luck!
Nice review, i have the fanatic pack as well and use it in conjunction with my summit titan just the way you use it. Now i am looking to get into saddle hunting, do you think the pack can carry the sticks and platform on the fron with the webbing
Thanks for the comment! I can’t say for certain but I think it might be difficult to carry multiple sticks and the platform. I’m not sure the webbing/straps would be long enough to wrap around everything and still have enough length to tighten properly.
I bought my dad an old 86 honda three wheeler (big red) a few years ago. The first year he went out hunting with it he bagged the biggest buck of his life. He had been using everything from tarps and wheelbarrows up until then. He told me he never wouldve been able to get that big buck back to the camp all that way without that big red. They really are an incredible help out in the woods (and the hard water!) Looks like your new ride will be just the ticket!
Awesome story! I’ve never owned an ATV before but I’m definitely aware of what a valuable tool they can be. Kudos to you on blessing your dad! I hope to get plenty of use out of mine hauling lots of deer and fish…and riding a few trails, too! Thanks for reaching out!
Enjoy!
Thanks!
Great video. I ordered the trailer and hitch. Kinda bummed the hitch ships from the UK. What else is needed to install this on the bike/trailer?
Thank you! If I remember correctly my hitch only took a couple of days to arrive. I can’t say what else you may need because your bike setup may be different from mine. I attached the hitch to my bike rack which had predrilled holes in it. I modified an aluminum block (minor cuts and a few holes) to serve as a coupler between the rack and the hitch. It’s a bit complicated to explain in writing so I’ll have to get on that video soon.
Looking forward to the ebike attachment video. New subscriber!
Sure thing. Welcome!
Sounds like you figured it out with the stratus system. Awesome
Yup! I think I figured it out! But that remains to be seen… Stay tuned for my one year review.
For the 40 to 60s i would definatley recommend the asio gear vest. its wind proof and shines very bright in these conditions. Keepa the core warm and isnt too warm in these temps
Thanks for the tip!
I personally think the stratus and fanatic system are by far the 2 most useful systems for whitetail hunting . You can also layer underneath the stratus with heavier merino wool and put on a heated vest under the jacket. That should get you through some colder temps too. Good review, looking forward to the next.
Thanks for the feedback! I’m hoping the Stratus works as well as the Fanatic. Im impressed so far but this season will tell me a lot. I’m very optimistic. Good luck this year!
I have this cart and I also hunt up in the Huron Manistee National Forest. I came across this looking to see if anyone else also had problems with the handle folding by itself. I have found that it helps to keep the weight towards the bottom to avoid it, but I am about to drill a hole in the sides to get rid of the pivot. As for the tires, I had to fill them up every other year. Doesn't seem like a big issue. Can't wait to see your E-bike setup.
Did you need any additional hardware to connect the Ventura hitch up to your e-bike or cart ? Thanks 🙏🏻
Yes. What hardware you need will depend on how and where you mount it to your bike. I attached mine to the bike rack which required a custom piece which was easily made. I plan to explain in detail when I make the video.
I went with the stratus bib and the Mountain pant when i want a pant with the stratus jacket. Nice thing about the mountain it can layer with the Fanatic. Have you tried the new Ambient 200? Wondering how well the layer compared to the 150 under stratus or Fanatic
Thanks for the insight. I didn’t look any further than the Stratus series. I knew I wanted the insulation offered in the Stratus system, so the mountain pant was never really a consideration. Who knows what the future holds but at least for now I think I’m set for outerwear for a long time. Good luck out there!
Hey so you took my yellow sled 😅
😂 BRAVO!!! 👏
Great review. Look forward to seeing a hunting video this season
Thanks! Me too!
love the reviews. i have the same systems you do. fanatic reviews convinced me to buy it as well for northern wisconsin
Awesome! Thanks for the feedback. Hope they are working out well for you! Good luck out there!
Suprised he dropped that quick with that poor of a shot. Glad you found him and got em in the freezer! Also that is the incorrect way of using the butt out tool and defeats the entire purpose of it. You are supposed to pull the lining out, then tie it off, then cut your tool free so that you don't have an open intestine spilling in the cavity. Tying off is also a good practice up high on the esophagus to prevent stomach content spillage.
Yup! It was really early and lighting wasn’t perfect so luck definitely played a large role. Sometimes you win sometimes you lose. I’ll take the win on this one. And yes you are correct., tying off is the correct method. Live and learn. Thanks for the comment.
Your camera crew, script writer and editing team do great work. Are they contractors? If so maybe I can hire them for a few projects.
😂 Thanks for the compliment.
Good video. New to hunting and likely in the same area as you are! Glad I’ve landed on your video. Hopefully I can learn a ton from someone who’s been hunting in the same areas or at least the same state as I am.
Awesome! Glad to have you and thank you! I certainly hope the videos are helpful. Let me know if you have questions about anything. How long have you been hunting?
Hello thanks for your review! I just bought the Hawk deer cart because I hunt by myself and dragging deer is getting old since I'm getting older. I'm just curious if you think the cart is sturdy enough to put handle on the tailgate and lift the cart with the deer into the bed sort of like a lever? I'd like to hear your thoughts.
Based on other people’s experiences, I do not. If you intend to do that I suggest you add an extra bolt to ensure it does not pivot. Thanks for the question. Good luck!
