Rodrigues and Blackthorne respect each other not only because they owed each other their lives but because they are basically the same. Both skilled pilots, both mercenaries for a nation not their own, both adventurers and explorers, both searchers for their personal luck in Japan.
I'm sure that Blackthorn's captain pal knew he and his crew were good as dead for helping Toranaga escape so they have as much to lose as Blackthorn by staying in Osaka.
Interesting theory and I won't even say you're wrong. But according to the original story, Toranaga had never seen a man dive before and was intrigued. It was a legitimate, "I wanna do that!" situation.
I am so interested in Marikos and Butaros Backstory. My guess is that something 'shameful' happened and Buntaro was not allowed to commit Seppuku, leading him to feel worthless and emasculated, which he then took out on Mariko and their son. Since it also has been hinted that Mariko has lost a child and was contemplating life ending (I'm guessing those are the "dark thoughts" the Padre mentioned) I'm guessing that has something to do with it.
No, buntaro was never dishonored as a warrior, he was just jealous as he had quite possibly the most beautiful wife in his daimyo's domain, that and her views on things after her father was ordered to commit seppuku is why he thought he should act that way aswell as having to live up to his father's reputation, toda hiromatsu, toranaga's right hand man.
@@sanjaysanj5603I am going to tell you that I barely read your comment. I didn't read the Novels and would rather not have anything spoiled for me, even if my theories are wrong 🙂
Not sure if they will go further into it but, Mariko's father is the one whonwas dishonored and she was not allowed to commit sepuku with him, it therefore brought dishonor onto her household including Buntaro
Hatamoto was a pretty high rank within the clan. They were the only ones that could personally request an audience with the Shogun pretty much whenever they wanted.
@@samlanganke1262 I was strictly speaking historically to convey the importance of the title within the show because it's only described as "a great honor"
My favorite episode so far. The writing is so good! This episode you fell the character relationships a bit more. It's only episode 3, too. It gets even better from here!
The ending scene shows Toranaga's deep cunning. Not only were the multiple dives a ruse to get Blackthorne clean, but notice how he only challenges Blackthorne to a swimming race AFTER Blackthorne is already a bit tired out?
This show goes better and better, but I'm happy it's only one season and will end where book ended. Will u be checking out "Ricky Stanicky" with Zac Efron and John Cena?

Both masters of the cursing tongue…
I'm so happy for Sanada, the show is doing good, he's a great guy and deserve recognition.
I love this show, it has so much depth, the closer you look and analyze every szene, the more subtext planning and cunning you can find.
I absolutely love this show.

John didn’t bath for weeks so Toranaga made him bath 😂😂. I really love Rodrigues and John’s banter I really hope we see more of it.

As an aside - Blackthorne naming his kids Tudor and Lisbeth is a *really* good indicator of his politics back home...
i am hooked on this show
Blackthorne sure has way with insults 😃
My favorite episode so far
swim race at the end was only way they could get him to take a BATH.
Toranaga had him keep diving to tire him out for the race. 3/11/24

Yasssss...
Hatamoto is a bannerman...

@@thenightcook1134 Not only with the Shogun. Each lord had his bannermen. And Toranaga isn't Shogun (yet).

Hatamoto are high level bannermen.
Yabushige is not Toranaga's brother, where did you get this idea from? :))
He's just his vassal, lord of the Izu region.
I'm pretty sure they are related by marriage.

It's last week's episode
