Abalone in my opinion is more for texture than flavor, honestly, which is why I, as an eater, don't find it worth its hype. If I were a harvester, I'm sure I would be of different opinion since the divers work hard to procure them. If you want it for flavor, you may as well go for the dried ones, which are sometimes cheaper, I think? Dried abalone, along with scallop and sea cukes, are considered great soup stock fortifiers for seafood stews.
In some of the canton restaurants I've been to, they sell smaller abalone than what the video has, but give you an entire bunch of them with bokchoy, mushroom, and oyster sauce. And I don't believe it's 200 USD even.

Abalone fact - That abalone is rare because you can no longer apply for licenses so the last license that sold was for 1 million
funnily enough is with a bit of licensing and regulation following its not ridiculously hard to get your own abalone in the States! Ive seen several different fishing youtubers go hunting for them!

watching this in 2019 and im glad. adam used to be so quiet, reserved and introverted. he talks and expresses alot more now
So after watching S5:E5 two days ago I became hooked and have watched a ton of episodes, will watch more and stay tuned as they come out. Excellent show!
So in this episode I have noticed, and enjoyed the small detail, of how the ingredient list of each meal is more artistic now.
I like how Adam has gotten more quippy and playful as the seasons have went on, such as filming the camera.
And it was funny that Steven finally roasted Andrew (ie: Scuba Diver reply).
omfg i was at the fish market when they were filming at the sydney fish market. pretty much freaked out when i saw the crew. and even got to take a photo with steven! :P
